I am ecstatic that Hiren is the admiral. I was worried that it would be Shinzon or Ron Perlman.

It looks good to me. It seems a fair match for the Enterprise-E / Voyagers as well to me.

If only the borg didn't exist, I'd be feeling more positive about the game as the main factions seem to all have a 'bad***' ship now.

It might be more than a match for the E and Voyager, depending on the dial. If she can stay cloaked Voyager can hit it with transphasics. Also the Thaloran weapon doesn't need a target lock, so you can use it for rerolls 10 points is a lot with the new OP rules, but might be worth it.

With 2 tech slots this thing was made for double interphase generators

Thaloran weapon seems to be way to over the top in power. Really? no target lock required and every hit means I have to discard an upgrade. I think it would be more fair if it was every uncanceled critical hit on the hull. Other wise I think its fair.

It's bonkers. And fun! And in the new tournament environment, not too powerful. Great stuff.

Well, crew or captain upgrade at least. It'll hurt federation ships a lot, plus Wayoun/Varel/Koss combos. It's unique, though.

By 'fair match' I was more referring to, suggesting it could be, well, fairly matched taking points and stuff into account. That whole 'game balance' thing that I thought had become a myth in Attack Wing...

If you could actually post something about the ship/cards/list/paintjob or whatever else the various threads are about rather than 'everything sucks because I don't like the new OP rules', that would be great.

Honestly Shinzon is not the best captain for this ship. In the new OP format Salatrel is a much better deal. You can alsouse the reinforcement side board to hold that Thalaron Weapon.

Yeah, Salatriel, who comes on an OP prize ship, so if you don't win the prize ship, you're either screwed or forced to pay an absurd amount of money for that ship... No thanks.

WK, you need to be releasing all the OP prize ships for Retail... You seem to have ignored the fact that this is a board game, not a collectible card game...

I'm pretty sure that Wizkids know precisely what sort of game they have and what precisely will gain them money from it.

I've actually joked a few times that Wizkids is Games Workshop but competently run. In other words, damn scary when it comes to finding ways to wring cash out of their players. Now, I'm not exactly blaming them for it (well, I am, to be honest, but nevermind), but the way I see it, they've basically got this whole capitalism thing nailed.


In other news, someone just pointed out Khan + Attack Pattern Shinzon Theta. Ouch.

It's an interesting pack, with a good ship and some decent upgrades. That said, this does nothing to fix the problems that Romulans already have. Instead, it's at best a replacement for all of the other 30+ point Romulan ships that no one wanted to run competitively. Shinzon is actually quite poor (ten points for a Skill 9 Captain who gets to pick four talents from a faction with mediocre talents, and then only gets to use one of them? What?), though the Viceroy is at least interesting/playable. It would have been nice if they would have spoiled Hiren, though in a faction with such poor action economy, I'm not sure that an Admiral will be as big of a deal as it is for the Federation and the Dominion. Secondary Shields and Improved Cloaking Device did not need to be locked to the Reman Warbird (god forbid that we actually want to use new toys on the D'deridex or Valdore). The Thalaron Weapon might actually be playable, which means under the new format restrictions, Mirok could have a new career microwaving people. As for the rest? Well, Full Stop is good, if nothing else.

Overall, I'm pleased by the pack in its own right, but disappointed in it as an addition to the Romulan faction in the game. Fingers crossed that the Drone Marauder or the Haakona end up delivering where this pack did not.

Not to mention Toreth has been a winner for the Romulans since the beginning. If this thing has any kind of decent dial Valdor will be awesome on it. 7 attacks when out of their front arc is nice . I have used him before on flagship Khazara and Valdor, and he pays off every time.

I agree that running ships to the way they appear in canon is far more appealing on many levels. Equally, I think we've already established that we disagree on the present attempt on WK's part to modify the tournament environment. A productive discussion on the merits or otherwise of the ship and game is perfectly feasible, y'all.

Anyway.

It's an attempt to provide a new choice to a somewhat flawed faction. It's not ideal, but it's a start.

It's a good ship and some nice cards, only disappointment is so many of them being limited to this ship.
Hopefully the Haakona has some cards to give my D's the extra edge they need.

The borg are far from useless, double sphere w/tac drones and borg missiles is still going to do very well. The Scimitar is going to do wellnin the new OP rules w/double interphase generator or interphase gen & polarized hull plating it will be great without taking an expensive flagship card. The reinforcement sideboard can be use for many of the things you are complaining about.

Spending $115 on ships not that big of a deal many of us have well over 150 ships and we are not complaining. Even in unrestricted play you can't use everything at once. Either roll with it or don't.

Excuse me? I don't have money to just go out and buy 150 ships...

I'm lucky if I can get a ship a month... I put REAL effort into stretching my budget to allow for my acquiring of the Borg ships all in a short time period...

Not all of us make thousands of dollars a month, some of us live paycheck to paycheck... Half the fun of the game was in fleet building,

Here's a quote from someone I usually disagree with online. "Half the fun is in building the fleet, and if you can't put more than a captain and one thing on a decent ship, that half of the fun evaporates utterly. Also, if you didn't have fun building the fleet, you aren't going to have fun flying it.

I realize that the "suggestion" seems to be trying to encourage use of those weak ships, but the weaker stuff doesn't really get used in any other game either."

Borg, Canonically, usually send ONE ship, sure it doesn't get a lot of attacks, maybe as much as the negh'var, but that's the point, they're tough, and they wear you down... In First Contact, that cube was QUITE beleaguered, however, most of the federation fleet was on the verge of destruction, before the Ent-E showed up...

Right, I've asked you nicely once to quit bringing your agenda into other threads, including mine. Comment on the ship or shut up. You're not happy about the changes? Start a thread specifically to rage about it to your heart's content but stop trolling every other bloody thread.

Next bleat out of you about the bloody game being broken and how you blew your dollars on borg because you wanted in on the broken train and now you're unhappy it got derailed, and I'll call the modsquad.

That is my point, there are lots of people that have spent lots of money on this game, but you can't use them all at once. Make some different builds try different things. Also try talking to your TO or store owner about a non OP "Dreadnought Night", that is what one of my TOs is doing. The store even said he could give out extra OP stuff as prizes.

Also I never said Double Sphere was the only borg build now. YOU said all of your borg stuff is now worthless, I was merely pointing out one possible build that can do well. That particular build does not "suck" though it came in 2nd at 2 of the regionals, going up against very cheesy Weyoun Cubes and Voyagernaughts.

In the end these rules are optional, but if WK starts to use them in regional matches they will become more popular. Maybe after a few OPs you group will decide to abandon them or maybe you will start to like them. However now every ship in every faction is a viable option, maybe not the best, but viable. In the end every ship you own is still usable, just not all at one time. Constantly complaining about only raises your blood pressure and it's not worth it to stress out over a game.
