Working on some terrain for the terrain painting contest at the shop this month.

I like the brown, I'm trying to decide if I should lighten it up some.

I have the statue that comes in the kit as well. I'm going to do heavy rust on it. I'll be starting that tonight.

i got quite a convincing effect through a mix of ice blue (GW) and scorpion green (GW) and this diluted heavily... very watery ...and each colour after the other... but you´ll see how this work when you do it...

I've gotten pretty good results with

If you decided to go that route, just use dollar store pastels. You have to scrape them into powder yourself, but you save a lot of money.

I didn't see any in the dollar store but my wife works in an arts and crafts store so I can acquire some fairly inexpensively.

Oh yeah? If you do edge highlighting on vehicles, see if she can get you watercolor pencils affordably.

Just run the pencil along the edge you want to highlight. The pencil does the rest.

The technique I know involves scraping the edge of the pencil along the edge you want to highlight. It might work on curving lines, but I've never seen it done that way. Give it a try, I guess, and let us know how it works.

School has kept me away from the paint brush this last week or so.

My buddy gave me his Relic Knights Black Diamond Faction to paint so I'll start working on those tomorrow.

I need to finish up my own Relic Knights as well, just a few spots to touch up and then figure out basing for them. I'll probably do that this week in between working on my buddy's stuff.

In exchange for painting, I get the start to my Cult Mechanicus army. I have the boxes here but I'm not going to even look at the sprues until I'm done with his stuff.

I paint slow enough, I don't need any distractions...

My wife came home with an airbrush for me last night!!

AC Moore was having an employee appreciation week so their discount was higher for the week. Someone brought in a coupon from JoAnn's another craft store we have around here and she was able to get one of the Badger airbrushes at 60% plus her discount off. I think she said it ended up being $40 Of course, I still have to solve the problem of the compressor but isn't that awesome?!? I'm quite pleased.

Pic worthy update soon!

Airbrushes are nice, but they aren't simple. Do yourself the favor of boning up on them with videos for use and especially maintenance. Assuming this is the first airbrush, of course (but then you did mention no compressor so...).

I'm sure others will tell you differently, but I just use a craftsman pancake compressor with some creatively arranged fittings to adapt the teeny airbrush hose. I did get a moisture trap/filter though I dunno if it makes a huge difference. About the same cost as the dinky airbrush compressors but bigger motor and larger tank. YMMV of course, and there's nothing wrong with what everyone else uses (obviously ).

Good luck with the airbrush, they're fun if a bit finicky.

Oddly every bit as fussy as a brush just different.
You still have to figure out paint consistency depending on what you are doing.
Light cleaning during painting.
More careful cleaning when finished.
Paint loading of brush (in this case psi).
Size of brush (needle/nozzle size).
Your level of assembly preference prior to paint may change.
Best advice I can give is do not start with a 0.2 nozzle unless you are spraying inks or well filtered good quality paints, you have been warned.

I got my school stuff done a little earlier than usual today so I got to do some hobby work.

I got the Black Diamonds all build and primed. My friend wants them painted with the armor gray and purple for the accents.

I'll have to sit to down and see how to make that happen. The tank should be easy. It's the most adorable little tank ever!

As for the Aquilla, I think I have the metal dark enough but the stones and gravel all around it are too dark now. Maybe a drybrush of some lighter grays? I dunno. What do you think?

I started the statue with metallic green and a flat orange kind of all over. I'm not sure how to bring it all together now because I do still want it to look work and rusted.

I just use the phone in my camera for taking pics of my minis but I want to take better pics. Any suggestions on a not too horribly expensive camera?

I like the statue almost as is. Maybe a VERY watered down wash to just try to blend some of the sharper contrasts together.

I would definitely give a drybrush to the gravel around the eagle. Will allow the Aquila to stand out.

What game are your friends models from?

In regard to a camera I would actually start with a really good setup first. The camera in phones these days are actually pretty good so get a light box or similar first. Then if you want to go from there trawl eBay or other second hand places (especially after Christmas) for a potential bargain. Oh and a tripod does absolute wonders.

I really like the broken aquilla.

I agree with Archer that the statue could use a slight wash to help blend the contrasts, but I'm just nitpicking. Nice stuff!

Thanks Archer, I will go around the aquilla again tomorrow with some grey. I think I'm going to try a green wash on the statue and depending on how that goes, a brown wash over that.

My friend's minis are from the Relic Knights game. We are starting a league soon so lots of people around here are painting Relic Knights.

Thanks Squall!
