So... I was thinking, does the order of the victory poses matter? Like, if you're all the way on the right you sucked, but if you're first on the left you did the best? Maybe it's based on how much XP you got? Or is it totally random?

Tried the open beta a bit, and I'm really enjoying it, overall.

Though, I'm somewhat concerned I might be terrible at it. I swear, every play of the game involves someone (usually bastion) killing me, personally.

I enjoyed packrat, and tracer, unbelievably. I usually don't like fast classes, but she was surprisingly decent.

Didn't like torbeorn at all. His turret didn't do anything. A genji just walked up, killed me, walked away, all while the level 2 turret plinked away at him.

My only question is this: Is there any context to why the heroes are fighting? In TF2, for example, there wasn't any stated (though that game somehow did have a story). They were just silly army men shooting each other, and that was fine. they didn't even have names, just jump in, start shooting.

But they've done a surprising amount of worldbuilding in this game to just have everyone randomly smash each other.

In heroes of the storm, in the intro, Raynor asks why they're fighting and uther says 'don't think about it too hard'. Maybe that's my problem.

"Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment." Words to live by.

To be fair, Genji is uniquely suited to do this. He was probably using his blade reflect to redirect your turret damage to you.

The short version is no. There's even back and forth between Widowmaker and Tracer where Tracer expresses her disapproval at working with her. Think of each match as an alternate timeline that has brought the various groups together.

Also I've started expanding my Tracer us. Two neat tricks I've picked up are to save up all three charges of her blip and then leap in from a ledge- blipping about 30 meters horizontally, to drop down onto the objective (and the inevitable Bastion/Reinhart combo sitting there) to drop her sticky bomb. Even the best Bastion can't react that fast and a simple E key later I'm back in safety watching my double kill come up. Timed with my team and it's a slaughter as soon as the tank/turret combo are gone. The second tactic I've found is for murdering tanks, which is to blip through them then immediately blip back. They always spin around looking for you but you're exactly where you were a moment ago- the one place they are sure you're not. You can easily unload a clip or two then use your last charge to blip through them again as they realise what you did. If you get desperate and time it right you can then recall to the other side of them, fixing up any incidental damage you might have taken and again confusing them. Doesn't always work but you can put a lot of damage on them- far more than they expect from lil' old Tracer. The exception is D.Va- her armour is stupidly hight and her sprays are enough to kill you dead fast.

I'd say that it's more -

Each of the characters has their own goals. The titular 'Overwatch' organization is gone (as the intro reveals), and the members scattered. So even the good characters are no longer united. All of them are more or less working on their own.

So two good characters (Winston and D. Va, for instance) could end up on opposite sides of a fight because they have conflicting views on the goals of the battle. And a good and a bad, like Tracer and Widowmaker, might end up teamed up because their short-term interests temporarily align.

I think Blizzard should add more lines to the game. Reinhardt asking D.VA for an autogram must had been one of more adorable things in that game I had.

Reinhardt smashing at D.VA: "Hey, personal space mean anything to you?"

Mercy respawning: "This must be that Deja Vu feeling Tracer was talking about."

Naw. Blizzard has specifically said the game itself has no story relevance or implications. The matches are just for funsies. The story is strictly confined to the comics, shorts and whatever other media they might release. Voice lines and level design are there to give you world building and character insights but tracer never did and never would be working with widow maker from a "Canon" perspective.

It might be cool if they released some short PvE mission packs with stories like the hearthstone "Adventures" but the development costs associated with that would be much higher. I'm not sure they could put them out at the quality they want at a price point the general public finds palatable.

I'm expecting PvE mode at some point. Have no idea, if it's going to be free, like SC 2 co-op play or in form of DLC/adventures.

I really hope they do.. I think with the name of just "overwatch" branding-wise it should be like the flagship game.. and while it's hella fun, this feels like it's just the multiplayer portion of what would have been in a big adventure game like dragon age or mass effect. Just feels like they should have done more than just a big deathmatch game with the universe as rich as it is. Who knows maybe they're secretly working on World of Overwatch in the background...

The lack of PvE is what convinced me to grab Battleborn instead of Overwatch. I'd grab overwatch too if it had an actual story, but without one...no thanks.

Eh...

LoL has similar work performed on the character backstories. But that's clearly not single player. And some of the backstories have been rewritten in order to connect various characters to each other, even though the gameplay never acknowledges it.

If you liked that animated short, and you haven't already seen them, look up the animated shorts 'Recall Notice' and 'Alive'. Along with the trailer they're pretty good.

Nice

Does Lance Henrickson do his voice? Sounds like it, but I looked in IMDB and Solder 76 isn't even listed. And Overwatch isn't listed for him separately on his page.

This was was a long one, wished the song at the end would be longer too. I don't quite understand what Blizzard is trying to do with Omnics. I can't relate to the machines and the thought of a self aware AI isn't sitting well with me. I liked that little detail on King's row, where graffiti with hostile overtone were sprayed on the walls.

Also check D.VA's SC profile.

Blizzard knows how to make fun animated shorts.

There's an interesting juxtaposition between Soldier 76 - seen in the short - and McCree. Soldier 76 is the former Overwatch lead, and is a white knight gone gray. McCree, on the other hand, is a former outlaw who has become a white knight with bad press.

I don't quite understand what Blizzard is trying to do with Omnics. I can't relate to the machines and the thought of a self aware AI isn't sitting well with me.

Bigotry and fear.

You're correct in that there are a lot of issues when the topic of self-aware AIs comes up. But those are questions that need to be asked before creating the AIs. That's already happened within the setting. The cat's out of the bag, and Overwatch dealt with the AI revolt when it happened. Do you destroy all the now peaceful Omnics just because there are still questions about self-aware AIs?

Incidentally, one of the good-guy characters - Tjorbjorn - is an anti-Omnic bigot.

Edit -

Does Lance Henrickson do his voice? Sounds like it, but I looked in IMDB and Solder 76 isn't even listed. And Overwatch isn't listed for him separately on his page.

Soldier 76 is listed on the cast page at IMDB. He's voiced by Toru Ohkawa. Among other things, he voiced Saito in GitS: SAC.

I know what the message is trying to convey. I'm simply apathetic to it. I don't know, if that's what Blizzard is aiming for. If it's only an information for us to analyse then the job was done.

I think Junkrat is also very against Omnics. In his comic a CEO (that looks suspiciously like emperor Palpatine) hires him to liberate a factory that supposedly has fallen under hostile Omnics control.
https://comic.playoverwatch.com/en-us/junkrat-roadhog-going-legit

I hope they make a moon base map, lower gravity, jump platforms. Sounds fun.

Nope. The game had a simultaneous worldwide release, and is now live no matter where you are or what the date is locally.

As for Junkrat and Roadhog...

They have a somewhat complex backstory. I don't remember where I saw it, but both of them lived in Australia. Some sort of Omnic facility got blown up and as a result a good-sized chunk of the continent was poisoned.

What's not nearly as well known is that Roadhog was the leader of the gang that blew it up. I'm not sure if Junkrat is aware of that, or if he would care even if he did know.
