paulson games wrote: When I play Bastion or Zenyatta I love, love, love when a Reinhardt helps cover me from all the snipers. But sadly it doesn't happen all that often as most people I get grouped with seem to prefer other tanks. D'VA seems to be hugely popular and I'm in a lot of games where there's two per side sometimes even three, which is like ugh...
D.VA rush on Hanamura is powerful, they're also amazing on payload. We completely stomped people in this week's Tawern Brawl with all D.VA team. Blizzard is looking into hero cap for quick play, I can understand wanting to have a hero option for anyone to experiment and play, however in practice having a good comp can give you amazing advantage. Maybe things will chill when season 2 starts and people migrate in that mode once again.

Been having fun playing tracer and junk rat (having only had the game 2 days) once I got used to blinking I'm having fun mulching the low leveled gamers ( a few seem to have never played an fps before), found with junkrat, once you hit the peak of the explosive trap you bleed all momentum, which makes me sad coming from tf2 and having done a lot of explosive jumping with Soldier and Demoman.

Junkrat's Concussion Mine is certainly no Sticky Jumper or normal Sticky Launcher - in the sense of balance it has been tuned that way to prevent Junkrat players just soaring through the air for far too long dropping grenades on targets below.
It's mainly best for getting up to vantage points quickly, such as the gantries on Numbani. You can also use your Grenade Launcher to do smaller jumps, but it's pretty inefficient, requires a bit of skill and deals damage to you unlike the Concussion Mine.
FYI, if you drop a Concussion Mine and wait for the cooldown for another one, you can detonate the first, throw one in the air and detonate that straight after to do a sort of double jump - the only downside is having to wait for the cooldown, but other than that, it can be pretty good on defence - no fall damage ftw
How convenient that we brought up Blizzard looking into hero caps, this was posted by Unit Lost an hour ago:

Stylos-a complicated the issue way to much. Thing is that in majority of my games people want to play in a good comp but at the same time they want to play their character.
For instance, players frequently insta pick, Genji, Widow, Hanzo, DPS. Usually leaving spot for a healer or a tank, even should I pick say Ana and the other would pick D.VA you're going to hear complaints from someone. That we have Ana who is a sniper and we already have Hanzo and Widow. I'd agree with the person, the problem is that if you try to adjust the comp, it's quite possible you're going to spend majority of your games picking what the team needs while other players will likely not be as flexible.
It's possible to win without a healer or using something funky like Winston or D.VA spam, but it's a bit cheesy and very few on defence will enjoy or find it funny. Tracer spam in competitive scene was also judged as being very uninteresting and rather pointless for commentators and viewers.
Queue time is important. Even waiting for two minutes for a game can sometimes feel like an age. Additional modes would probably stretch it even further.
My view on entire situation is that Blizzard should implement hero cap for quick play, while leaving brawl unrestrained.
Heh. Had a game where someone put "D!cks out for Harambe!" in the chat (general chat), and half my team went Winston in reply. We actually won that one. It was pretty fun, especially after someone else said "Okay, d!cks back in, now" afterwards.
And I don't know where you guys are playing your games, 'cause I can't go a single game without at least one Tank. Often we end up with 3! There's almost always someone playing Reinhardt, often a D.VA, and Roadhog is a popular choice as well.
GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.
If yer an Ork, why dont ya WAAAGH!!

Reinhardt borders on auto take in practically every team comp because of his shield; Roadhog is also popular for his ultimate, as is D.VA, as well as her being able to function as a poor mans (or girl's more preciously ) Reinhardt with her DM.
Of the 3, D.VA puzzles me the most for being such a common choice, primarily due to her recent small but nonetheless important nerf, combined with an ultimate that is definitely more ideally suited for certain maps than others. I've also seen a tonne more terrible D.VA players than good ones - Reinhardt and Roadhog are much friendlier entry level Tanks..
When the Open Beta of the game aired, people really didn't get the idea of composition, and almost every team I played with had no Support. Now that the game has been out for a while, and Supports are understood by most people to be very important, you will sometimes see teams ditch a Support to favour an Offence character deliberately to give them a bigger push, and often this works since that team should have more firepower than your team who has 1 or maybe even 2 Supports.
I loathe hero spam. It's not even hero spam, it's *tank* spam 99% of the time. Or maybe multiple Junkrats. It's just that if you're not expecting it, there's bugger all you can do to stop 5 D.Vas and a Lucio rushing your point. One or two wave their defense matrixes around and all shooting becomes woefully inefficient even as they heal.
Lately I'm actually liking attack Symmetra on maps like Hanmura and Volstaya (sp?) Industries. If you can get the teleporter up close you give the attackers a shorter walk back than the defenders. It's almost impossible to hold a point when the attackers cycle faster. It's also hilarious to put her turrets on the attacker entry ways, forcing them to either not head straight for the point or wear the damage while they deal with them. Also 25 extra (regenerating) health on the attackers never hurt anyone pushing a point.

2 tanks and 1 support is still a valid comp for a PuG. Supports tend to bring a strong kit, such as Lucio's speed buff or Zenyata's discord orb. 2 supports guarantee there will be some healing available, if one of them goes down. It's fine to cut one of them down, but without any support it's far more likely your tank will have to disengage to find health packs more often that the team would like to. In my experience 1 - 1 - 4 DPS doesn't fare that well against 2 - 1 - 3, especially in attack scenarios.

It's awesome, if it works. A friend started to pull this sort of thing, we just need to study when it's the best time to put down the teleporter.
Go all zayra and 1 lucio against dva team
1. At the start you don't know who you're facing. 2. You need to die to swap the character. 3. Good luck coordinating in PuG. It's far too energy draining and most people simply won't do what you advise anyway. I don't try to communicate on a voice channel outside of my regular team, ever since I found out it's more likely that people will turn into toxic pigs once they hear my accent.

I have it all turned off - seriously can't be bothered with the typical squealers and people who claim to know better than everyone else and try to get people to play competitively and "correctly" in Quick Play games.
In Competitive, it'd be something I'd definitely do, alongside having a full or nearly full team - the community is too erratic to trust your Overwatch rank with, and far too salty as well

I was in a game the other day where two players on my team had a 20 minute argument (seriously, they argued through 2 full rounds of Dorado) about who was better at Genji and by the end they were outright insulting each other and the rest of the team.

See that's odd. Myself and my wife play together a lot and we add at least one friend to our list (she seems to accumlate friend requests faster than me, for some odd reason) every night. We've never encountered anyone toxic and we're at about 140 hours played each. I've seen people in chat that are reasonably toxic, but never in voice.
I noticed a big increase in the number of players choosing DVA once her newest patch was applied, the changes to her shield and the ult made a pretty big impact in her game play.
Before the patch the 10 sec cool down on her shield was significant and she could be shot far more easily, now her shield has a 1 sec cool down so she can have it up almost constantly, drop it momentarily to shoot then flip it back on immediately which is HUGE for her survival. (& survival against other characters besides Bastion) I think Winston is probably the least attractive tank character now.
Prior to the patch I didn't have much difficulty crushing her while playing Bastion, now she's significantly tougher to deal with. Her ult charges time was reduced by 15% now and explodes a second sooner so there's less time to get away and she doesn't kamakazi by getting caught in her own blast. I can see why she went from an occasional appearance in games to an average of two being played on a team in the majority of games.
I didn't care much for competitive play, however I'm wanting it back now just to eliminate the hero spam.

For me, I've tried doing voice in PUGs, but the other guys are never on.
But yeah, I've not encountered any toxicity either- the occasional "Man, my team's terrible" type stuff, but usually it's people playing along with each other or congratulating others on great kills or combos.

The new Blizzard censor amuses me no end. Any time I see one of the edited comments I just assume the opposing team is super salty. The other thing I find hilarious is when people end a match shouting obscenities about my Tracer or Widowmaker. The best compliment you can have is for your enemies to loathe your appearance in a fight.
I did encounter one toxic guy the other night. My wife chose Widowmaker and performed, frankly, poorly and this guy had a go at her over it. Put her on tilt and enraged me, which put me on tilt. We did not win that game. Why people don't recognise that being encouraging of your team is more helpful than ragging on them is beyond me. Confidence helps a ton.
I'm really starting to detest people who don't target supports when the opportunity presents. Or worse, flankers who won't flank. Yes Tracer, you can stand behind my shield and plink away at the Hanzo back there but I'd really love it if you'd zip round and murder the healer k thx? The overwhelmingly best games I've had have been where Zenyatta nails the support with a discord orb and calls out the targets. Doesn't take much to drop them with the orb- one clip from a Tracer or two shots from Reaper. Once one side loses a healer it gets one sided really fast. Even creative stuff like using Mei to wall off the support or Pharah to split them up is good. A Roadhog being healed by Mercy is a pain to put down. Wall the Mercy off though and suddenly that Roadhog is a lot more squishy.
I'm very tempted to play competitive just so the quality of the teammates I get is higher

At this point teams on competitive couldn't be much worse than the ones I've been getting in quick play

I play mostly in groups of 3-4 in comp, there's always a few people looking to group. I find you quickly fill up to 6 when someone goes 'oh wow, a communicative team, can I join you!?' after 2-3 games. Then you can have a laugh and a decent game.
On the upside, I finally bought my first gold weapon last night. Reinhardt's hammer, for use with the Paragons (white and gold) skin. Looks badass.
Competitive Season 2 is much better than Season 1, but the community is still a massive problem, and one that can't be solved easily. Group play is still the way to go if you have that option available.
I've been away from the keyboard for a quite a while so have just been watching some of the World Cup matches. And naturally, us Brits lost out in the playoffs. Damn you Stylosa!
In more off topic gak, I did some silly Overwatch quiz the other day to see what character I'm most like
Totally a coincidence. Just like how I got Mercy (one of the characters I play the most)
