Is it odd that I actually prefer to play healer all the time? Most of my friends HATE playing support, while I love it.
Also, you know you're going to have a bad round when people start thanking you on the mic for picking Healer because no one else would

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum
I love playing Support too - Lucio is my second favourite Character to play in the whole game.
People don't give Supports the chance since they think they're going to be boring to play because of the connotation "Support" has in video games. Even Mercy is a lot of fun to play as you feel very crucial to your team when you play her. Same goes for all of the Overwatch cast really - outside of Torbjorn, I like playing all of them.
While a few people are here, shall I move this conversation to a new thread? Overwatch isn't exactly new now plus I'm going to be up for a long time if this thunderstorm persists.

I've actually gotten a few compliments on my Mercy abilities. Moments like that make all the frustrating times that everyone guns for me worth it

I have never received such compliments unfortunately Have got the most Gold medals by playing Supports though, and some of my highest killstreaks have been with Symmetra

I say compliments, but it's mostly been the occasional "good heals" after a match or lots of commendations on the XP screen. Although in my last game the Lucio on my team said I was doing great on heals, well enough that he just focused on speed boosting everyone

You could argue that Symmetra is more of a Defence type role, but Support doesn't necessarily mean Healer. I hope Blizzard does more Supports like her in the future that aren't healers and instead buff the team with stuff like Shields and Support devices like the Teleporter.
Keep in mind D.VA's Ultimate does a massive amount of damage, which of course contributes to your damage dealt. Zarya and Reindhart can't even get close to D.VA's damage if you pop a couple of multikills with her Ultimate.
Either way, 9 times out of 10 you don't want to have any Medals for damage if you're anything other than an Offence role (or Defence). If you get a Gold as a Tank, there can be concern about how well your team was actually performing; if you get a Gold on a Support, like I have before with such low outputs like Lucio, then that is really sounding alarm bells

I always find it amusing when people complain about Mercy POTG. Mercy players typically run themselves ragged healing people, and rezes can often mean the difference between an assault stalling or not.

It's not really about the importance of the rez that gets people, it's the lack of any thrill (and (very much arguably) skill) that makes them bad POTGs. A POTG is supposed to show the best demonstration of skill (or even luck) in that match, rather than someone just clicking a button and letting everything else do the work. You could say the same for something like D.VA's Ultimate, but at least that requires the setup, perfect positioning and brilliant multikill to score POTG.
All that being said, the POTG system is still a broken concept imo. It only stars a select few of the Overwatch cast since it has a strict parameter on what qualifies as POTG - Killstreaks, Multikills and Rezzes, and because of that they are very predictable and often boring, which defeats about 90% of their purpose.
You could argue that since it is a "play" it should be an Offence or Defence character pulling off a great move rather than someone who has carried the team, but I'd like to see the latter a lot more - those Mei and Lucio highlight intros are all for nothing otherwise
I'd like to see more Ana POTG, but you almost never see those because her ult makes someone else into a killing machine

Pretty much my point - the parameters for determining a POTG are way too narrow. It'd be nice if it accounted for Ultimates that flip the game, such as an Ana Nanoboosting a Reinhardt who then kills 4 of the enemy team; it should account for damage dealt by targets of Ultimates such as those - then we'd have a lot more interesting POTGs.
I think it's a good idea in principle, but since they want 'exciting' moments, they need to expand it out a little- factor in movement of characters, perhaps, so that a Genji-duel would have a chance of showing up, or unhealed damage dealt, or burst damage blocked, so you can get Ult 'shutdown' PotGs via things like Rienhardt's shield, Zarya's bubble or D.VA's Defense Matrix.

K/D is a pointless number in Overwatch since some characters have objectively better damage output than others, as well as various things like health and hit boxes that mean they're not on equal footing. Also (for the most part) killing your opponent over and over does not necessarily equal victories.
As for your win/loss ratio well, that's what happens when you trust pubbies to carry you in Competitive. I'm sure it has nothing to do with your skill with D.VA
Also keep in mind a good D.VA player doesn't die much, since they know how to hang back and rack up damage to get back in their Mecha to continue the fight as quickly as possible.

Also, I think Blizzard's sorting algorithm for quick-play is supposed to cause 50% win rates- they literally are trying to get you to win some, lose some.

I mean, not even Mei players like Mei from what I've seen. That says something

I usually just play versus A.I. Solo Quickplay or comp sucks the life out of me and makes me lose my temper real fast.
In Quickplay and Comp people turn into frikkin lemmings and just keep running alone into the enemy team or anything. Doesn't matter if you give them tips or ask them for help. Or you just get dropped into troll teams... Went into Quick Play thrice today. Each game it was just troll teams I got thrown into.
In Versus A.I. I don't have the feeling of having to take care of a kindergarten class each and everytime. And people seem more relaxed and more fun.
Or it's just me being extremely unlucky.
Seriously people are lemmings. Why rush past a Reinhardt's shield every single time when you can shoot at people behind it in safety.
And anyway, why does Reinhardt's shield block damage from every other Ult, except for Hanzou's. It's ridiculous.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Unlucky I guess Overwatch is a lovely great floating target for such attacks, although I haven't been playing competitive when they've happened before.
Anybody else really think they should institute the only one of each hero per team rule in quick play? After fighting 3 teams in a row several days ago where they all picked the same hero I'd love that

Also fun fact I found out on a stream by Emma from WarhamerTV, Sty used to paint 40K on Twitch back in the day. Too bad I only found him when Overwatch released
