Finished my first time placement matches. Ended up in Platinum. Pretty okay for a first time if I say so myself.

Could have ended higher if I hadn't had people throw two of the games. One ended in a draw and the other on a 2-3 loss. The two kids kept whining and bitching about me being a gak healer. Even though I did around 9000 on heals and had gold objective time. Would have taken me a little less tight on the 2500 range. I got 2513. XD Now it's time to win some more matches I guess.

If I'm completely honest, I'm pretty nervous about doing my placement matches; I may or may not have made a bet with electriceve that I would at least place in Platinum when I got my hands on the game

The only reassurance I have is that I've been matched all of today with level 100+ players as a level 20. We'll see how it goes...

Absolutely don't be. It's a bit better than QP. I ended up with some great players in my Solo Que placements. Just my last match people got super toxic. The matches seemed to be more balanced. Well maybe because I went in with a clean Comp Record.

It might not be super high but at least it's somewhat above avarage.

As I whined/posted about a few pages back though, soloqueuing is completely at the mercy of RNGesus. He didn't like me, so I dropped 600 compared to my rating last season.

Got Mercys new highlight intro. Just in time for me to get PoTG as her, I saw my team getting wiped so I stopped and rezzed them all afterwords. The tears of the enemy team when they whined about Mercy after the game were delicious

Yeah, so, looking at Mei's Chang'e skin from the side- it's definitely a glitch. She's got polygonal shelf booty going on hard. Someone goofed and shrunk her waist somehow.

We should try doing comp games as a team next season; seems like a waste to have as many Overwatch players as we have on this thread without any networking between us.

I got my 9/9 wins on day two of owning the game I think I was just lucky with who I got matched with - the game is placing me incredibly high with lvl 100-500 players.

I'm nearly 1 level from 25 on day 4. Might try doing placements with my brother, but I'm more waiting for season 4 to come along.

Lucio's my most played due to most teams not wanting to take a healer. Zenyatta, D.Va, Mercy, Mei, Soldier: 76 and Tracer are my other picks.

To expand on thoughts on D.Va, I'm actually pretty happy with her state at the minute; I thought swapping her armour and her health would make her too fragile again, but it seems to have hit the sweet spot. She can still take a beating, but she'll get blasted very quickly if you're careless. There's also good news coming with a new update that will make her DM block attacks that are less than a metre away - that means no more Roadhog one shots after being hooked.

If only I could play D.Va more often - most comps force me onto another character, usually a healer. I've very rarely come up short when I have played her though, even against other D.Va players who are 5 or 6 times my current level

Just came off what was perhaps my greatest game in Overwatch on Route 66. You can guess who I played 30 eliminations, 0 deaths, nearly 9,000 damage blocked and over 16,000 damage dealt.

I also trashed the enemy team's D.Va, despite that player being 170 levels higher than me.

Somehow this only resulted in 1 gold and 3 Silvers, but I'll take it. Just wish I had it recorded...

I managed to have a Mercy round with no deaths. Every time I was close to dying I was saved by our Zarya"s shields or I was able to fly to our Pharah

That's pretty impressive considering how Mercy is often the enemy's primary target.


I've just had my placement matches ruined by two terrible games; in an enemy team where a D.Va was standing still and in another where a Zenyatta was doing the same, and we still lost.

Beggars belief the quality of some players I was matched with. Quick play seems to be populated with far better players in my experience.

I still have 2 matches to go, but I doubt I will even get Platinum at this point.

QP and ranked have separate skill ratings, if you played QP more, then maybe you're playing on a better level than ranked. Although I've always felt that matchmaking in QP is a little skewed and has looser tolerance between matched team's skill ratings.

Also keep in mind that the current version of matchmaking is going to place you slightly bellow of what it believes to be your true skill, this was done for variety of reasons. Don't give up, I'm sure you can climb up the ladder.

I haven't played this game since winter veil ended. I've discovered other game and I really miss customization of guns in OW.

I'd be super up for all us to Friend up so we can play together. It'll probably want to be in PMs, though, due to the private nature of the tags.

You're probably right - Overwatch has always had a poor matchmaking system, but I do appreciate that it is hard to judge "skill" based off average calculations and records, especially for a low level player like me.

Even so, it's nuts to think that the game wouldn't take your record in QP and use that for your first ever placements.

Customisation how so? I thought you could only buy Golden guns in Overwatch (which frankly look terrible and cheap) - was there a time when that wasn't the case?

Today I reached a new low. Today I was insulted because there was a cloaked Sombra on the point and one guy blamed the rest of us because we were engaged in a team fight on the point and we didn't have the time to search for her. Just ask our resident D.va player

I finished my placement matches after meeting with Kit. Placed 2103 if I remember correctly; 5 wins, 5 losses.

Quite a long way away from Diamond. I blame it on the RNG, although I would have thought the game would just take your individual performance (which was consistent gold medal earning) rather than whether you won or not. Kinda makes me feel that placement matches are ultimately a pointless measure of your actual skill.

Yay, haven't won a round of Comp since yesterday evening. Just getting trolls and throwers everywhere.

I dislike that you are penalized after someone drops. You are usually loosing already, and now 5 on 6 you are going to loose worse, and if you leave you get a penalty to tack onto the loss.

I mostly stick to Quick Play as a result. The games are just as likely to be balanced, and there is no penalty for dropping out if you have something come up.

Lost again, people don't know what an objective is apparently. Seriously. Overtime, 4 people around it... No one on the objective.

And again, 2 leavers.

And again, Trolls.

And again... A draw.

And another loss. Oh boy this matchmaking is fun.

Finally a win, but the enemy team was in a bad shape.

OW never had customization. It's simply something I've found to be fun in other games. The following are just rough examples of what I meant:

76 could get the following options:

Gauss Rifle - faster rate of fire but at the expense of recoil and/or quicker spread of cone of fire.

MG LX scope - 76's assault rifle trades the helix rockets for aim down sight ability, the magnification is considerably lower than sniper's.
Biotic grenade launcher - 76's assault rifle trades the helix rockets for capability to launch "sticky" biotic field. The shot is fired from the hip and follows parabolic trajectory.

Soft point ammunition - More damage to targets without armour or shields. Armour or shields/barriers decrease the base damage considerably.

I think the reason for doing this is to put everybody on the exact same playing field. TF2 offered a similar system with its items, and while all of them always have a drawback, some players can exploit the advantage better than others.

I like that Overwatch doesn't give you any meaningful progression; you have access to every hero from the get go, with the entirety of their kit - all you need to do is learn to play them right.

I get that personalising your stuff is not there outside of preset skins, but I think this system is for the best, especially with a game that has a serious competitive mode.

It's completely reasonable to do things as OW does. One of more compelling reason to play of OW is that every character plays as you'd expect once you get familiar with the game. Longer time to kill as opposed to short time as many other games run is also another reason to like the game.

I'll not comment much on competitive mode, in my eyes every system/game is going to get min/maxed it's what people clearly do/want. Some are going to get more mileage with a character that you consider yourself somewhat decent, regardless of optional gear.

I can die happy now although to be honest, White Rabbit is still my favourite skin of hers

Yeah, I'd have no idea how you'd get an Ana play of the game.

Her rifle seems a bit too slow firing for a multikill. Her ult would most likely just give your teammate POTG.

Maybe her grenade, I guess? If you get all of your team and all of theirs and all of them die?

The funniest part was I didn't even do that much in the play. I hooked and shot Lucio in the face, took a shot at Mei (she icicled), and then shot Soldier in the kidney

Sounds a lot better than my PoTG when we were playing together
