35 pieces for a figure that is the size of my thumb??!! That's crazy and the track installation, 9 pieces for each track, which seem to need very specific alignment/pairing, with no instructions, is just asinine. I hope they get this figured out. It makes me really appreciate how other companies assembled their kits.

I think the kit's pretty nuts, but they do have instructions- they're digital and they include a slip with a URL.

Yeah, I found those. But honestly, if you have an over the top kit, the least you could so is include the instructions.

Eh, I don't see why you need a physical copy- it's an easy way for them to keep their costs down, and it's not like you need them after you're done building the minis.

Fortunately, based on the latest Miss model (the new teddy, Miss Ery) being six pieces, Wyrd is getting better at making the minis wonderfully detailed, but less complex (As a Lady Justice player, I feel your pain).

They've also apparently been addressing the problem on both the design and manufacturing ends.

I thought that, then I built the Dreamer set. The Alps are 9 pieces each, with 3 piece heads. The Dreamer had a bit so small I physically wouldn't hold it (I've got big man hands).

The complexity is as high as it needs to be to make the model they're designing. You wind up with 50mm based models like Miss Ery, or the normal Teddy, which are an absolute breeze to build simply due to design. Then they throw a steam trunk or Whiskey Golem at you.

I think, not sure but I think, I remember reading somewhere that they aren't happy with the complexity of their kits and have looked at other plastic companies to try and get the complexity down. The Miss Ery teddy was a test at a new lower complexity of something like that...

I like having a physical assembly diagram because I am often assembling where it would be unweilding to have my laptop (e.g., the crowded hobby table), where I don't have internet, or assembling where I didn't bring my laptop (e.g., the buy and assemble at the store).

I get nervous about snapping some of the really fine pieces too, though so far, my luck has been good.

The steam trunk is just plain nuts & it's not like I'm new to this stuff. I ended up building it with lid closed because I was so irritated with it.

One of Wyrd's presidents, Eric, made a trip to China to see WarGames factory. One of the things supposedly on the plate was the number of peces/tiny pieces that people have been complaining about. -ie trying to get Wargames Factory to be more intuitive about their cuts.

Personally it's never bothered me. When they're done, they end up looking like masterpieces, so for me the ends justify the means.

THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED!!!

Have to agree there. While it can be irritating building these, it's necessary to get around the lack of easy undercuts in HIPS. While it can be done, it's harder to design molds around the sliding sections needed for them.

This means that when you've got a model with a flowing jacket or robe, then can have it hollowed out underneath rather than cast solid. Good examples are Pandoras dress and Liliths coat.

And while it makes construction annoying (and sometimes downright rage-inducing), you'll only be building these models once. Maybe twice if you're spamming minions, but the vast majority only once. The end result are models that are very dynamic for plastic models, though somewhat hard to convert if that's your thing. For Malifaux, where everything is really a 'character' to itself, it's great.

Cutting plastic is quite literally a choice between sharp detail and lots of pieces, or blended detail and fewer pieces simply due to the angles that you have to avoid in HIPS as Loki points out. When a model has not been designed specifically for plastic production the problem is exasperated, but I have to agree that while it can be annoying for Wyrd's models, the end quality justifies the hassle. If it were an army-scale game like 40k that had so many parts then it would be really annoying to build, but I prefer sharp, crisp edges to blended and smoothed plastics every time.

While the end quality is good. There really is no need for a single head to be in 3 separate bits with some kits

While true, and there's heads which have as much detail and are single part, again, you're building these models once. A little extra complexity isn't a huge problem unless you're building squad after squad after squad.
