I have two Leman Russ kits, one a Demolisher and the other a Battle Tank. My list has 1 heavy support slot available for them, so they will be part of the same squad. The Battle Tank kit can make a Battle Tank (72", Ordnance 1, large blast, S8, AP3), Exterminator (48", Heavy 4, S7, AP4, TL), Eradicator (36", Heavy 1, large blast, S6, AP4, Ignores cover), or Vanquisher (72", Heavy 1, S8, AP2, Armourbane). The Demolisher kit can make a Demolisher (24", Ordnance 1, large blast, S10, AP2), Executioner (36", Heavy 3, blast, S7, AP2, Gets Hot), Punisher (24", Heavy 20, S5, AP-).
What do you think are good Leman Russ variants that complement each other?

A few ideas I've had:
* AP2 Goodness, long and short - Demolisher with lascannon + Vanquisher with lascannon
* Anti sky, light infantry, and armor - Punisher w/ lascannon and multimelta sponsons + Exterminator w/ lascannon and multimelta sponsons

Which two variants do you think would complement each other?

Convert them to both be the same type of tank. Mixing roles is never a viable option.

Also, never put a lascannon on a demolisher (or any other tank with an ordnance weapon). Firing the main gun (which you will do every turn) means the other guns are reduced to BS 1, and paying to upgrade a BS 1 weapon is almost always a waste of points.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Pask Punisher + Executioner is a pretty popular combination. A little conversion work could get him that combo.

If he's gotta run them both as a squadron without Pask, the best combo would probably be Exterminator and Executioner. Main guns have relatively long range (36-48) and S7, so there's some synergy there. Multimelta sponsons would make them threatening to vehicles and able to shoot up infantry too. Not thrilled about the combination but it could be worse I suppose.

It's actually pretty easy to make both kits fully interchangeable, so assuming you can do this and so basically any two options are available:

For crowd control that can also make short work of light transports, a Punisher/exterminator combo, all with triple HBs, should cover that. 38 S5 shots, plus 4 at S7, should put down most medium infantry and light transports. The amount of AP4 means that anything short of MEQ will be hiding as well.

For anti-tank/mc, a LasPlas Vanquisher and a LasPlas Executioner puts out a lot of high S low AP shots, 7 blasts and 3 direct shots, which should deal with most MCs and anything short of a Land Raider.

Whatever you do, though, do not glue any weapons! Russes are so trivially easy to make swappable it's silly not to!

I like the Pasknisher (MM sponsons, hull LC) + Eradicator (HB everywhere) combo. Eradicator is cheap and effective. The combo works great.
If Pask is gona be a warlord, there's perfect sence in including an Executioner with plazma sponsons. No overheats and rerolls to hits make it a brutal tank vs MC and bunched up guyz with good saves.

Without Pask, either punisher or vanquisher are not worth it imo.
