He's taking the formation where it allows him to infiltrate (and start) his stormtalons on the table. I believe it's called the Tyrannic War Veterans or something like that.

I thought that the storm talons in that formation weren't allowed to zoom on turn 1 when they started on the board. (Similar to the "ready for takeoff" rule on a skyshield landing pad). That alone could have changed much because the terminator alpha strike would have been a little stronger.
Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

I'll check on the formation when I get back from work, but I don't think that there is such a restriction. Yes, it starts in Hovering mode, but just like a FMC, can start flying on its turn. But once again, I am not 100% familiar with all of its rules and will have to look it up.
BTW, I'm in the background playing against "GTA" Grant and his seer council and I smoked both of his wraithknights by Turn 2.
Though I must say, the veterans themselves are absolute trash unless you KNOW you are facing nids, and questionable even then. (PE and zealot VS the versatility of true sternguards?)
I mean, against everyone other than nids they are sternguards with less ammo types and less options for nearly the same costs.
Honestly, its like a tax for the plane formation, they should have limited it to no more planes than vet squads.
Though I wonder if anyone ever tried running the T6 FnP Chaplin you got there as a mini-MC of sorts, he's odd, but might work.
can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

how did you end 2 wraithknights by turn 2? What army and units did you use as well?

I was running the Centurionstar with Gate of Infinity and the Ignore Cover psychic power. I went first so he was forced to start off his seer council in reserves or to potentially lose it.

6 centurions all with missile launchers, 3 with grav cannons, and 3 with las cannons. Are you running all grav cannons? And do you think adding in Draigo is a bad idea if trying to keep it somewhat friendly? My meta is mostly friendly, hardly any tournament type lists.

Exactly it needs first turn to work and your opponent cant steal the initiative. Any balanced tau/necron army would wipe the floor with 5 storm talons.

Not really. Remember that its a flyer. It's got a long reach. When you play against Necrons/Tau, you can always infiltrate it out of range of markerlights, HYMP, teslas, etc. if there is enough room. Then, on your turn, move it 36" to be within striking range of just about anything. Or you could leave them in reserves and even outflank them. It does have some bad matchups, but overall, the formation is very flexible.
