Anyone else pick this up?

Its pretty damn amazing. I'm about two hours in, just doing open world stuff, hunting and upgrading, although I think I have to do a quest to unlock paths to other regions. I'm absolutely loving this so far.

Its also one of the most gorgeous games I've ever seen.

Edit: Its essentially more of the same from Farcry 3, but in a different locale. which is perfectly alright by my book. If you're a FPS fan, I'd say this is must have.

Its on my list of things to get although honestly I still need to finish Farcry 3.

It seems like there are a ton of new good games that have come out in the last month or are scheduled to be released before the end of the year.

How is the story? I was kind of worried that we would end up with a more generic story this time?

How is navigation? Mountains + open world = not quite as open as you want.

Outside of the Prologue, I haven't really played story missions, I'm just making my own story, stealth killing entire outposts, hunting animals to upgrade gear(PETA will protest this game) taking towers, and generally causing mayhem on the enemy. I'm doing this so that when I do take up the main story, I have a brevy of skills and gear at my disposal. There is a ton of stuff to do in this, as opposed to FC3.

The main story, from what I gather does seem fairly generic though. There is a neat option to choose sides amongst the insurgents and it changes the missions and possibly the story as you play, depending on what leader you choose to assist.

I'll be at this game for a long time.

I played FC3 (on 360) for 15+ hours and really enjoyed it. Graphics, game play, story -- I would rate every aspect at 4 or 5 out of 5. BUT I still managed to lose interest ... maybe it's just not my genre? This is what's holding me back from FC4, especially with a new Dragon Age just out.

I loved FC3 and this is more of the same, but with some great improvements like auto-driving (press Shift and the car will follow the set waypoint, leaving you free to look around or..) along with the ability to finally shoot pistols when driving! The skill tree has also been refined, there's also a quick-sell option now for all the vendor trash and hunting with a bow is now more rewarding (you get extra XP and double the amount of pelts if you perform a "clean kill")

Also, the game doesn't keep the cool stuff away from you for long, I found out that the small helicopters are made available to you as soon as you unlock your first outpost and they are a joy to fly with.

Storywise, same here, not that far in yet, though I do have a good feeling about the villain, he's oozing with class and a certain maniacal mindset, while not copying the equally amazing Vaas from the previous game. I mean, this guy will at random call you and give these weird speeches, or..

"Ajay? Ajaaaaaaay? AJAY!"

"Uhm, yes?"

"Nothing, just checking in."

And yay, a protagonist who doesn't look like a douchebag or whines all the time.

I felt like they channeled The Joker for this villian, thought that from the preview trailer and ingame confirmed it for me.. And it works.

It certainly helps that the guy who voices Pagan, Troy Baker, also does the default voice for the Boss / PotUS in the Saints Row games.

I've found my first minor minus to the game.. Hurk. Yay, just what I wanted, an inbred southern idiot who spouts nothing but jingo and insults like a bro.

Aaaaaaand Pagan just called me asking what celeb he should invite to his country to help improve his public image. He settled on Kanye.

The game just looks amazing, hopefully it'll ease the burn of disappointment from destiny.

That was my biggest complaint about Farcry 3. It made me hate myself or atleast the character I was playing.

After I stopped paying attention to the supporting cast of characters in FC3 and their whining I enjoyed the game so much more. Are all the achievements available offline?

Me, too. Just gone around and stealth-killed a bunch of pirates? Lolnope, you're still a whiny feth half the time you open your damn mouth, and a smart-mouth to the bad people pointing guns at your friends the other half of the time.

I had a hard time getting past that though. It's ultimatly a big part of what made me stop playing the game, which was a shame as I really enjoyed the rest of it.

Have they sorted out the shops at all? There was no point in them in 3 as you could just get all the weapons they sold for free at the towers.

Well, some are unlocked through towers, others through the completion of specific challenges. Other than that, there is a fast-sell option now for the vendor trash.

Ajay isn't squeamish, though he will make the odd "yuck" noise when skinning an animal, other than that he's just a regular non-whiney dude in his country of birth trying to get gak done. Without complaining.

Completed my first fortress takeover!

This is something I wanted in the last game, a giant outpost! Took me about 2 hours to get it done, as I always try for knife takedowns and remain undetected. Went to the second one, further north and repelled down into it at a seemingly perfect time and did it in one try. No more of my outposts will get attacked in the south now. Can't go north, gotta complete more campaign missions...

Not sure how I feel about the Shangri-La missions, although having a tiger at your beck and call is pretty neat.

Started a himalayas mission and it seemed pretty awesome, being able to shoot snow formations and make it fall on folks was cool. And having to kill for their oxygen tank added a neat dynamic. Then I got an error and it shut down,.. I'll finish the mission tomorrow.

I've mostly been item hunting myself so far, also making the odd trip to uncaptured bell towers, I want to get all of those first before moving on to the missions. Plus I really, really want the Nitro 700, daddy needs a new Rhino skin wallet.

Total Biscuit mentioned that there was an alternative ending in his podcast, and well despite not having played the game I'd thought I'd watch it. Huh, nice one devs, that was kind of cool. * Spoiler* If you'd just sat on your arse like a normal person and not done the video game thing all the game's events could have been avoided? Of course I have no idea what exactly occurs in the plot, and well he is the bad guy and a manipulate bastard obviously, but Pagan Min guy seems to be all right. ...In a video gamey way.

I guess whenever I play it I'll have to actually go through the game's plot, but knowing what happens in that ending may mess with my viewpoint till I find out more about the characters. =P

Outside of the challenge weapons it was best to just loot and pilfer until you got the freebies

Just met a character from the previous game, who described Jason as a "SoCal douchebag" he had to babysit.

Also, got the Nitro 700. Rhinos are no longer a problem, I finally got enough skins to upgrade my wallet.

I got to hunt the legendary Honey Badger. The mission prompt for it asked three times if I was sure about this one before mister Chiffon called me and quite briskly told me to kill the fether, no elaborate speeches for this bag.

Beat it just now.

As for the ending..

Ha, damn that was an interesting twist, I can see how that can take some by surprise.

And for those who've beaten the game and don't mind starting over again..

I'm holding off going up North, trying to complete as much as possible in the south.

Right now trying to grind to Rank 10 in the Arena, to get the Bushman assault rifle. I have a thing for M4's, and their generic video game equivalents.

Speaking of Arena, it kinda blows. I'm using the Farcry 4 app to grind it at work rather than do the in-game version. Arena's are always a fun part in almost every RPG I played, and this one just looks tacked on.

Yeah, the Bushman is an excellent rifle, I also used it a lot in the previous game, along with the Shredder, a regular silenced heavy calibre sniper rifle and IIRC the Bull.

This time round I never leave home without the M79, the Shredder, Nitro 700 and the MG42.

Is this worth a look peeps?
I liked 3 but felt it ran out of steam and became fairly repetitive after chapter 2.
Does it bring anything excitingly new to the table / series?

Just beat destiny and cod advanced warfare to best shooter this year so must ge good haha. My only worry is that it's more fc 3.5 rather anything else. But reading people's comments here might lead me to pick it up.

I love it, but it is honestly FC 3.5 . And thats fine for me.

I love the stealth aspect of these games and they've added a ton to do in that regard. It never really gets old for me, taking bases without firing a shot or getting an alarm off.

I felt the story is better, and the missions more unique, it has none of the weird/corny cutscene/press this button boss fights( as far as I know, still gotta kill 1 more bad chick and then the main baddie). Didn't care for the Shangri-La missions, too trippy for me. A pretty fun assortment of villians/heroes, with plenty of shades of gray.

There are times where it feels repetitive, but I generally just put it down for a day or two and then get the itch to return to it. If someone got bored with FC3, they'll get bored with this as well.

If you haven't played Far Cry 3 yet, skip the game and go to 4 instead. FC3 has the most poorly written characters of this decade and fails at telling a story. And the way how they decided to suddenly kill Vaas off was so terribly done...lord.

At least in this game you don't take drugs (willingly) all the time and you're not acting like a so-cal douchebag. Aside from Ajay's improbably amazing combat skills (not bad for a punk who ran with a gang), I really like him.
