Hey Guys,

I've just bought Effigy Miniatures line of SciFi minis and relaunched them as Black Dragon Miniatures. Please check out this small line of minis and let me know what you think.

If you pick some up, please post painted pics, I'd love to see what the community is doing with them.

Those do look very nice, suitable future civilians for Infinity are hard to find!

The corporate executive miniature in particular looks very cool

Also, for some reason I have an urge to model a top hat on the floating droid thing..

Prices very nice as well, except for the UK shipping!

This one is great, I prefer it over CB's corporate civilian. I'd like to say other models give me appealing retro sci-fi vibe.

Anyone got a scale shot because the website says 28mm Heroic so these guys could easily look like bears next to Infinity.

Edit: And I've just realised you said bought the actual rights and not just some miniatures. I thought the post seemed unusual at first.

So could you provide some scale shots? There is some awesome stuff in that line, even if they don't scale with Infinity I can see a lot of 'not' Necromunda miniatures and some stuff that could work for another project I have.

No, they have the miniatures, not JUST the rights.
Black Dragon bought the rights to PRODUCE the old Effigy line and are the ones now making them (so they have the moulds and all).

Well of course... If they've bought the rights then they are going to buy the existing stock.

As I misunderstood him, you have misunderstood me. I thought he was a customer who had bought some of these miniatures, not the vendor of said miniatures

You're a conundrum chromedog, I'm never sure if you are actually as angry as you appear to be.

Whoa, why haven't I heard of this company before? Not only are the prices good, but there's some very nice figures there. Those cops look great! They're almost exactly the kind of police minis I've been looking for. If you don't mind posting some comparison pics, I'd love to see how they compare to other lines as well.

That avatar doesn't actually look "angry". It looks unimpressed or scornful. In a "get that %^%^^ camera out of my face before I have my bodyguard here re-arrange your attitude." in a calm but forthright manner, kind of way. (It's from an old cigarette ad campaign for "Lucky Strike" done by one of my favourite artists).

I'm rarely angry. I'm frequently unimpressed or mystified by the lack of common sense possessed by those around me, though.

Haha yes, I have to be honest, I always took it as more of an 'implied facepalm' face rather than an angry face!

I read an article once about how an avatar can pre-suppose the way in which the reader can take on board the tone of the message. Although, I'm not sure that's strictly true, as I find quite often the most aggressive posters on forums have cute little kittens or gerbils as their avatar..

Anyway! Some great minis here, I will certainly be putting together an order as I do need to bump up my civvie count (and that exec miniature would be perfect, along with a couple of bodyguards, for some 'assassinate/protect the CEO' type mission..)

Haha, I was referring to the tone of your posts rather than your avatar, they always read, to me at least, like you are seething with condescension and rage. I choose to believe you're not actually like that but who knows.

I think there is definitely something to the theory that an avatar sets the tone of your post, if someone change their avatar I can suddenly start to read what they are saying in a whole different way. I think though that this probably decreases with how much you know the poster. Choosing an avatar wisely to represent you is worth the effort in my experience. It's a shame those 'what does my avatar say to you?' type of threads are always terrible because the discussion has lots of potential.

Anyway, miniatures. If it turns out these are a good match for Infinity and not 28mm Heroic then I'll definitely be adding some to my collection. If they are Heroic then I'll likely still get some for Necromunda. I'll hold my water until I see evidence though.

I've put in an order for 3 of them; the male and female exec, and one of the security bods. Quite reasonable price even with the shipping to the EU (in part thanks to a favourable exchange rate at the moment). Purchasers from Aus will also be pleased to hear that the rate is the same for them ($9 US)

Will make sure I post up a review/comparison shots as and when I receive them!

Oh yeah, there's definitely more than a little of "Did I really just read that? Did you really just go there?" implied.

Anyone know some models I can use as proxies for Chasseurs, at least until they get a new model or resculpt?

You could try Empress Miniature's modern combat range (http://www.empressminiatures.com/page11.htm), or probably better is the Hasslefree modern combat miniatures http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?category=miniatures~modern-troopers

Really Chasseurs look like quite generic modern combatants, more so than most other ranges, so sure you could find a suitable proxy in amongst that lot.

I'd say either go with the Hasslefree figures (which are really nice) or go with the Eureka Miniatures Blackwater Contractors.

The consultants from Eureka are nice and scale well with infinity.

I've also got some of their US marine snipers (prone with M82 Barrett .50 rifle) as well.

Waiting on some of the HF moderns guys. They're in transit.

I find the issues with scale amusing as Infinity has plenty of internal scale issues going on. I'm sure, if they're slightly too big or too small, they'll scale with some Infinity models.

You finding it amusing is all well and good but it's a legitimate concern for me that I may end up with a model with the 'Heroic Scale' proportions of an Imperial Guardsmen rather than the truescale proportions of Infinity miniatures. They look ridiculous next to each other, it's not the same as the difference between 28 or 30 or 32mm truescales.

I'm not sure why you felt the need to belittle anyone else's opinion by describing it as 'amusing'.

I see people from 4'7 up to 6'8 around me all the time, from slight to 'roid junkie in build.

The variation in human forms in the game is fine to me.

What DOES look odd is the "girl" scale weapons in the new sculpts and the "boy" scale weapons.

The weapons themselves get scaled down - so it looks like they are using sub-calibre versions of the weapons used by the males. This complicates supply chain issues (normally, soldiers in the same units get the SAME weapons.

You don't have men with AR-15s and women with 10-22s.

I completely agree, most of the size variations are reasonably easy to explain. People come in all shapes and sizes and we don't even have access to the body modifying technology they have access to in this universe. My opinion on that has changed a lot recently I think. What you don't and wouldn't see in variable people is those in 'heroic' scale with giant heads, hands, feet and a general disregard for the normal margins of human proportion.

The tiny little lady weapons are really disappointing and we should, as a community, be kicking up more fuss than we are about it. There are enough people whop have mentioned it as a concern. I mean obviously I'm more up for embracing the 'cheesecake' than a lot of people but it's even a step too far for me, the guy with an all female Nomad army.

Except CB haven't been doing this. Their recent models have been larger overall, but their proportions are still fine. They're just bigger. We haven't seen any indication that they're moving to the bobble head/clay hand look that GW favours. In fact, the only models they still have like that are first edition models still in production that are getting cycled out slowly.

The only proportion they really play around with is weapons. They scale the weapon for the appearance they're going for with the model. I don't agree with this at all, but saying this is the same as GW proportions is going a bit overboard.

Mate, are you being serious? I think maybe you've gotten confused somewhere because you always seem very reasonable whenever I see you post but this is a bit crazy. Lets just back up a bit and clear up the topic.

The conversation is about alternate miniatures for use in Infinity. A couple of people mentioned that it would be good to see how these miniatures scale up next to Infinity as the website advertises 'Heroic 28m'. This is a worry for some because truescale does not match up well to heroic. You described this concern as

because

I explained that the issue was the nature of heroic scale vs truescale and not slight variations on truescale. For some reason you have now decided that I'm saying Corvus are producing heroic scale for Infinity.

Either you're not reading anyone else's posts and replying to imaginary statements or you've absolutely lost the plot and it's time to bring in the men with the straight jacket.

I seriously hope you read that properly and realise your error. If you're going to continue this argument going on in your head then I'm out, someone else can play act the voice in your head. I really don't want that to come across harsh but I have a pet hate for people not reading other peoples posts properly. I wouldn't have a chat with someone where I don't listen to anything they say, it's incredibly rude. That's almost definitely going to come through in what I just wrote.

This all seems a bit moot. This guy clearly isn't GW heroic scale:

Yes I don't think the miniatures look heroically scaled, I wouldn't have bought them if they did. Some of the 'super-hero' miniatures on the other part of the webstore do look more heroically scaled and so perhaps that is what the website title is referring to.

To me these look more like the (now sadly unavailable) Antenociti civilian line - heads and hands are very slightly larger proportionately than the newer Infinity miniatures, but its close enough that they fit aesthetically and thematically. Will post comparison pics when they arrive (already had a sending notification, very fast turn-around!) so that should hopefully put that to bed.

Re. some of the posts above I think too much is being made of this scaling issue; look at something like the Djanbazan miniatures for Haqqislam, in particular the male and female hacker miniatures. The male is a lot bigger than the female but both like fine fighting alongside each other (in fact, they regularly do in my Haqqislam army!) - as Chromedog has said you get such variation in the size of humans, and the important thing is that the proportions are correct. Also, you have to be aware that the size of the inverted magnetic phase-coiling in combi-rifles varies massively depending on whether they are manufactured on earth or in the orbital labs of STi Beyhan, hence the variation in the size of the weapons (which you can order in sizes S - XL)

They certainly look fine but I like to see scale shots before I buy miniatures. I can be a bit picky but I guess that's my prerogative when it's my money.

Well the minis have arrived already. Very fast turn-around, came nicely packaged with a little hand written note inside (I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff! )

At first glance you'll be pleased to hear that they seem to scale perfectly with the CB ranges and the Antenociti civilian ranges - will post some pics at some point over the weekend.

GW doesn't have a specific scale. Both Eldar and Space Marines are too small compared to Imperial Guard. Both Eldar and Space Marines are tall compared to Imperial Guardsmen, and Space Marines dwarfs them, but on table the Guardsmen are roughly the same height.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.
