I'd like to add...summer...when if you don't use a wet palette you cannot do more than one miniature at a time. I'll take your winter

Finland

Come to Finland. It´s light for 3-4 hours during the day here ( other than that it´s pitch dark as night ) and it´s around -22 to -30 celsius outside when actual winter begins soon.

Yet, it´s the best time to wargame! Light up a candle/fireplace ( for mood, ofcourse it won´t help your painting at all... ) or gather a few mates to a rented/owned cottage for a game and beers in a similiar enviroment to this:

Then fire up a song and you´ll feel like this.

Using only natural light to paint by is a great way to go blind.

Winter is practically made for gamers. Stay inside, paint your crap.

Winter is better for wargaming than Summer. Who wants to play games indoors when it's lovley outside? I find my local gaming clubs attendance is about 50% higher in the autumn and winter months.

Wht is this winter everyone is talking about? Is it a new fad because of Game of Thrones?

Actually, in some parts of California it can get fairly cold. The valley will drop below freezing at night fairly regularly in the winter. Normally, at least. While the rest of the USA is buried in record snows, we've been absurdly warm and dry for the last few years compared to normal.

Don't forget, bring your models in from the cold! Had a buddy leave his in the car overnight. All the superglue became brittle and fell apart.

I was trying to paint on the weekend and it was so hot my paint was drying on its brush before I could brush it on a model.

I'll take winter for painting.

But summer is best for gaming. You can game outside, have a BBQ, have cold beers. The best.

Wait, can't you just use a liquid primer...? And why do you guys use daylight balanced lights to paint rather than whatever's available? I have a regular tungsten balanced bulb that I paint under, works like a charm.

Indeed, liquid primer is the way to go at colder days.
I used to spray at the garage these days.

Daylight bulbs give a natural light off that doesn't affect the colour you're seeing. If you paint under a normal bulb, then take a finished model out into natural light, it can look different to when you were painting it.

Not a problem if you don't care about such things, but if you do, a daylight bulb is best.

Worst winter ever in the UK atm.... it's warm!

December the 4th already and it's actually still warm outside. What the hell is going on?

Have you ever had a winter in UK?
Here life goes on as normal (almost, no cycling to the University and no sitting in the beer garden): painting and gaming as usual.

Got my AT skis waxed with the base wax, gonna have to scrape and do a second layer. No need to do my edges.
My tele gear will maybe get sold. Not certain whether my knee can take it anymore.

If I get injured again it will be painting time..

Prime with gesso, and never worry about this again.

Florida winters are great for painting and gaming, the heat and humidity drop down to tolerable levels, for both people and primer, you don't have to worry about models melting because you left them in your car for five minutes without the air conditioner blasting.

Though admittedly, there's a lot more of a reason to be outside doing things while it's nice out.

Winter is no hinderance for gaming, far fromt it! I enjoy the months of cold, snow and howling winds. Because they make me paint my stuff, and ensures I always have an for or two on hand should I feel the need to game. Unlike summer, where people are hard to come by

Are you guys kidding? I love painting and gaming in the winter. The house my wife and I have just bought has a summer house tucked away at the end of the garden. It's insulated and double glazed, it's on the mains and it's plenty big enough for a couple of 4x4 gaming tables, a desk or workbench to work on and my woofer keeps me company, curled up under my chair...

Throw in a beer fridge stocked with real ale and some vino, a couple of massive bean bags and an internet ready TV, and I can beaver away for hours!

I am going to find where you live. There's only so many summer houses in back gardens around. Plus i work in Oxfordshire a few times a month.

Though winter here has been quite summery so far. Like 2 frosts and just grey cloudy days.

Yea, winter's great for the hobby (well, it can sometimes be hard to primer... I try to primer a ton of models to have 'em squirreled away for winter!)

I get tons done, and on the rare day when I actually play, the weather is so lousy, no one wants to go outside!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...
