Would like to add some massed Calvary charges to my games of 40k yet I cannot find any good models for them

Need some inspiration so please post either suggestions for how to make some or even better, some pictures of well converted riders you possess or have seen

Cheers!

No, I am using Lizard Riders form an old dead game called Void, but I have been thinking about it. I have seen others use them though and they look nice.
A lot of others also use Britonians or Empire Models.

Im somewhat offended. These are graceful Badgers my men have mounted. (one lion in there too). Its a bad photo though so i'll let it pass.

They were converted from large amounts of money into a Forgeworld online order, lol.

As to the original question, if you wanted to keep with GW models, I wonder if Chaos Marauder cavalry with Cadian torsos/heads could do the job.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Badgers are from Mantic games.

Riders are from Victoria Miniatures.

Plasma guns and swords are too.

Kinda pricey but definitely better than anything GW. The cool thing is since you can buy the riders from Vic Minis you can simply buy whatever mount you want and put them on it.

Endless freedom.

I use the Quad-bikes from Ramshackle games. Still doing the conversions.

They have some other types of bikes too if you don't like the quads.

If you've got a Sister's of Battle detachment accompanying your imperial guard, you might want to go for warrior maidens riding panthers, although you'll have to convert the spears and add pistol holsters.
Panthers beat horses, but lose to giant badgers or T-rexes.

My first DKK rough rider arrived in the post yesterday along with some other DKK lovelies. The riders are a fantastic model. Yet to see anything come close in the same field. Only got one to see how my horse painting goes......

I had a shot at making a prototype for a Rough Rider Squadron a while back, but I was lazy making the prototype so it wasn't entirely crisp when I got it to this stage. The only proper animal I'd really painted before this, and badly, was the Psyber Eagle Coteaz has, which is why the colour scheme on that is tripe, but I was pleased with how the idea worked out.

I built a half-squadron of 5, but I've never painted the other 4 thus far.

I explain various things like my inspiration, how and why I did it here.

I got a LOT of compliments on mine.
I used the chaos marauder horsemen. Gave them shields to amount to flack armor which covered the chaos symbols. Some wore the shields on their backs while others have them strapped to their arms (they are in a box in storage so cant give exact details on shield locations beyond to say all the symbols ere covered. On the shields, i put aquilas to tie them in with the rest of my army and the spears serve as lances very nicely. No problem adding spare las guns and a pistal in a holster for the sarge. Even managed to magnetize arms to trade in special weapons.
Overall, made for a great looking feral unit.

Not sure I'm aiming for around the 500 to 750 mark by Christmas and see were it goes. I ordered the tractor transport vehicle, a 10 man, a command squad the rough rider and a mortar team to start. I must say I'm blown away by the models, by far the best GW I have seen a real departure from cartoon minitures, particularity the rough rider. Superb models. If the horse painting goes as planned I will want to expand the cavalry detachment.

The cold ones are old metal dark elf cold ones/skink rider cold ones, catachan legs except the AC one, a marine scout leg as I was short one catachan pose leg.

So you just used that one leg type? Did you have to modify it in anyway or did they just fit already?

Cadians should have motorbikes or quads, preferably quads I think but chunky bikes would be cool too. Horses suit certain regiments. The catachan cold ones are a superb conversion, well done that man! Nice to see rough riders being discussed again. They are pretty hard to use though under current rules.

These look just like the mental picture I had when reading Pandorax... Catachans riding dinosaurs!

I have been toying with the idea of making rough riders for my Catachan army. The idea is to use scout bikers and use bits from the catachan command squad to make it catachan like. Just not sure on the execution of how to bash these kits.
