Not quite.
Exalting a thread (via the button at the very bottom of the page) adds to the count that is used to generate the Popular Threads list.
Exalting a post (via the text link on the bottom of each post) currently does nothing. Lego has plans for this that will be added in later.

Not fully true - exalting a post will put it on this page:

(which is unlinked from anywhere)
and we use that page to populate content on the site's homepage and elsewhere.
