Hey folks,
Long story short there's a guy at my store who runs a hard-ass master of the forge (Iron hands/ Clan R.). Apparently he's got some ridiculous stats (2/4++, feel no pain etc) and has yet to be killed in a game of 40k (out of 100 !). For some reason I can't find the rules for him, I take it he must be forge-world of some kind...

Actually, no.
What you want is the Clan Raukaan supplement published by Games Workshop.
Not everything powerful (actually, very little of it these days) is automatically Forgeworld's fault.

Hah cheers, so he's just a standard 2w master of the forge with gorgons chain? Maybe I should double check the guys list.

He's probably only using the Gorgon's Chain. It effectively grants him 5+ FNP, 3++ and Eternal Warrior. He's probably also trying to roll for the Flesh is Weak warlord trait which buffs his FNP to a 4+. Not to mention that Iron Hands characters will regenerate a wound on a 5+ at the end of their turn.

This is, incidentally, the item that enables Chapter Master Smashfckr. It's basically the single best defensive item in the game, and can keep a bike chapter master alive as he dives directly into the maw of the enemy army. If you give this item to a MoF, and then that MoF hides inside a Land Raider or behind LOS blocking terrain, he can be next to impossible to kill. I'm skeptical that he survived 100+ like the OP claims, but this sort of character could easily survive 20+ games in a row if you play him right. If he's playing against smart players, they'll probably just be ignoring the MoF, as shooting him enough to kill him has a high opportunity cost.

Man, if you have problems dealing with MoTF, you'd better not look at biker chapter masters with the same gear.

My friend regularly run Iron Hands with a Shield Eternal CM on bike accompanied by a Clan Raukaan Gorgon's Chains CM on bike. I fething hate those guys.

Luckilly, that's 550 pts for 2 models. Yep, it'ssomewhat annoying that they're completely unkillable. But on the other hand, if you don't lack ability to tarpit - the guyz ain't too killy. A squad of conscripts with a priest will tarpit them all game. A squad of boyz will tarpit them for like 2 full turns.

Nope that's not him, this guy has orbital bombardment and bolster defences. I must be missing something...

So yep, that's a smashfether. The only real way to kill him is either shoot everything you got - and it won't be enough - or S: D / stomps on a 6. But the good part is that he's not exceptionally killy for the points. So, he's vulnerable to getting tarpited or fed with something expendable.

Are you sure the other guy's not missing something? Chapter Masters have orbital bombardment, and MotF have Bolster Defences, but I've never heard of a case of a character having both.

Yeah I've found him, he's in the h. hersery book. A chapter master with iron father, although I'm not 100% on that.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually no I haven't, either this is the world's most obscure Iron hands character upgrade or the guy's a cheat.

Sounds like it's leaning towards the latter. . . or at least he misread something. I don't claim to know everything or anywhere near everything about the innumerable FW space marine characters there are, but I do haunt this place often enough that I feel like I would have heard something about a character as bonkers as the one you're describing.

Horus Heresy? So it's not a legal 40k character.

Hah yeah those Yorkshire lads and their cheating.

Essentially I played him in one game ( 1150 pts, I was playing loth/tig/ bike chapter master cent star and he had Iron hands with a Cerberus assassin, 3 cents, Plasma cannon predator and the unknown unkillable guy).

Pre-game he bolstered the defences of a piece of ruin and placed his cents/ pred in there for 3+ cover.

He stole the initiative and Orbital bombarded me out of line of sight with a large blast, killing tig then his assassin moved up and killed my Chapter master... game over.

Apparently he's even gone up against the 999 pt lord of change model in combat and won.

Yeah, ask him to show you all the rules for this guy - this sounds fishy.

Now that doesn't sound believable, that bird is stupidly OP! And should be flying.

(and can no longer be taken in games under 4k points now, thank Mork)

There is no legal way to get an IH character with both Orbital Bombardment and Bolster Defenses. At all. So, play him again, take a look at his rules, and insist he play by them. There is the possibility of a 30k character that can get the two rules (unsure if he can) but he would then not be able to have the Gorgon Chain, or Centurions.

I'm going to assume that he is just bringing SmashFether and calling him an Iron Father for fluff purposes. Are you sure he didn't have any other Techmarines/Thunderfire cannons in the army?

That is most likely what it is. He's probably running smashfckr and a thunderfire or another HQ choice spent on MotF. There's no way to get both on 1 character, but it's not difficult to get both in 1 list.
