So I was thinking today about a way to "fix" Terminators. What if there was a Devastator counterpart to the Assault Terminator, much like Power Armor Space Marines have Tactical, Assault, and Devastator squads. So these guys would have access to Lascannons, Plasma Cannons, Missile Launchers, and Multi-Meltas to go with their Assault Cannons and Heavy Flamers.

Would this be a worthy use of 200+ points?

No.

The reason Tactical Space Marines exist is because they are troop choices. They can also take a special weapon and heavy weapon. Devestators are superior to Tacticals in every way, but 1. They aren't a Troop choice, they're Heavy Support. They take up an important slot and aren't super scoring.

Terminators are Elites which take up a limited number of Slots and aren't super scoring or mandatory.

Devestator Terminators would be superior in every way, so no one would take vanilla terminators.

The one thing they would not have is any sort of close combat weapon beyond the basic. But yeah, I kinda figured that they would invalidate the Tactical Terminators.

So, Centurions with one less wound?

In squads of five not three, but essentially. We got Assault Centurions when we already had Assault Terminators, so this really wouldn't stop them.

Just pointing out that this doesn't give a new thing to the Codex following chapters. Especially as the Centurions can fire two weapons each. There won't really be a firepower edge to be had which might offset the gain of taking them.

Might be nice for Dark Angels/Gray Knights/Space Wolves though.

We'll see if Blood Angels gets Centurions shortly.

Well, Dark Angels NEED the help, I bet most everyone would agree with that.

I thought Autocannon Devs was Chaos's thing for whatever reason.

Because chaos has to have outdated equipment for some reason when really they should be scavenging and having daemon forged replacements instead really.

From what I understand the DA terminators don't need any help, what with their ability to mix/match shooty with melee.

But yeah, I think if tactical terminators had maybe 1 more heavy weapon option that'd be nice...but an entire class of devastator terminators seems a bit over the top.

I could get on board with them increasing the number of heavy weapons in the squad. Two heavy weapons would suffice.

Honestly BT Terminator command squads back in the day that had two heavy weapons period instead of one per five were pretty solid; give all Terminators the option for two guns at minimum squad size and no increase as the squad size goes up and they'd be better than they are.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

or even better, give them 2 heavy weapons at 5 and then let them take a third heavy weapon at 10. it would at least add a small incentive to take more than just the minimum number of units all the time. and at that point three heavy weapons can become overkill making them more specialized in what role they play in your army

If you're ever actually taking a ten-man Terminator unit something has gone horribly wrong.

Don't forget Chaos and Space Wolves terminators start at 3 so 2 heavy weapons from the get go may be a bit much .

Good thing Wolves and Chaos won't get them from the get go.

No they do not. You need 10 chaos terminator to get 2 heavy weapons. And its not worth it. Chaos Termi are good at only dying so you take termicide with 3 combi melta or plasma or flamer.

Dont' space wolves get fire discipline so they can split fire?Their devastators are the best due to this ability.
