Tough Tyrant Guard

I have a few questions:
How did he have a main detachment of deamons and an allied detachment of daemons, the allied detachment clearly say that it cannot be the same faction?
also how do you get fighter ace on the flyrant for the +1 wound?
not nitpicking just curious since I would certainly want to know how to give my flyrant an extra wound

We were playing under the BAO format and in the BAO format, an army can self-ally (but no double-FOC's).
Fighter Ace is an upgrade from the Shield of Baal supplement. It is a 35-pt upgrade that you can give to any 1 flyer/FMC.
Btw, the Fighter Ace upgrade is not a sure thing. You have to roll for your power. There is a 1/3 chance of getting any 1 power.

Very enjoyable report, thanks again for sharing
Yeah, daemons are the only 40K army that is like that. Well, them and Tau if you can get a multi-charge on a riptide and some fire warriors.
herpguy wrote:Wow, what an epic battle! This is what 40K should be all about, giant combats determining the victor! Nids definitely seem like shadows may have been made with 7th in mind. It is way more powerful IMO.
Since 6th edition came out, I totally lost all confidence in assault nids. With all the new units coming out, starting with the dimachaeron, assault bugs are coming back and I am loving it! I wouldn't say that Shadows was designed for 7th. It actually took a big hit in this edition. However, there are some niche use for it where it can shine. This just happened to one of them.

Thanks! I was quite concerned after seeing his Summoning and then losing my Warlord on Turn 1. I was glad that I was able to swing it around, though I wouldn't expect this type of performance by me against a more experienced Daemon player.

His GUO issues a challenge to my Skytyrant. Gulp! I had to accept.
Why? From the pics, your Gargoyles are blocking pile-in from your Skyrant, thus he's not in btb in the first round of combat. Why didn't you decline challenge, at least until your turn, when he would've lost the charge bonus attack?

Because my tyrant never backs down from a fight.
The truth is, I never thought about ducking from the fight. I wanted to take his GUO head-on. As this was a casual game, it was ok to risk my skytyrant. Now had this been a tournament game, I might have considered that tactic.
BTW, it doesn't matter if he is in base or not. If he can fight before the pile-in move, then he can be challenged.

I thought you couldn't decline a challenge if you were in btb contact with the challenger, but upon checking I see that it's only when you're down to a single character that you cannot decline. Depending on the position of the decliner, you would still need to Look Out Sir any wounds. But in a situation like this, that much preferable over accepting the challenge in round 1.
But if you wanted to make things harder for yourself, there's not much to say. Automatically Appended Next Post: jy2 wrote:
So what is the Skytyrant formation? The formation consists of 1 flyrant and 2 units of gargoyles. Basically, these 3 units combine to form 1 unit. While the flyrant is in the unit, he cannot swoop nor can he leave the unit. However, he can Look-Out-Sirs any wounds allocated to him onto one of his gargoyle "meat-shields" instead. The flyrant also gains +6" Synapse and reverts back to a normal, swooping flyrant only when all the gargoyles in the unit are killed.
Nope. The Skyrant can't leave the Formation, regardless of what happens to the Gargoyles. He's a jump MC with an 18" synapse, with or without Gargoyles.

Let's just say that the game isn't always about beating your opponent senseless (although that does happen oftentimes, even if it was unintentional), especially since this was just a "for fun" type of game. I didn't want to totally deny my opponent the chance/fun of potentially doing something spectacular in the game.

Didn't some of his daemons had the fnp 4+ reward? I think that he can use that for saving his DI wounds or perils wounds. Am I correct?

You are correct. He didn't take his FNP for DI for mainly 2 reasons.
1. I didn't know which of his units had the FNP at the time. Basically, I would take his word for it if he took his FNP saves.
2. I forgot about it.
It would have helped, though it wouldn't have affected the outcome. Mainly, he was making LD2 Instability tests on units that were mostly already wounded (with only 2-3 wounds left each).

Yes it would have made no difference to the overall status. The game went south for him pretty early. But as you mentioned earlier, a veteran and experienced player can make the difference. I myself have found out that CD is a very hard and random army and even though it has so many advantages, it's cons can be catastrophic for the game result. For example the multi-assault and DI. It's like fighting FW and riptide. Apart from that, great game mate. Always a pleasure reading your bat reps. Cheers!

Thanks. I will mention to him about FNP and DI next time. I completely forgot about it during our game and I wasn't keeping track of which gifts his DMC's had as well.
