They look good, but not when you think the amount you need. Even the price isn't bad in its own but like everything else when you need multiples it adds up.

Can't most parts from this kit can already be kitbash from DC kit, current tactial kit and sternguard kit?

They look good otherwise, I like the posing which has moved away (at least somewhat) from bow-legged style which always looked like they were wearing diapers. However, the ornating is just too heavy at places. Particularly shoulderpad wings, they're just way too large and prominent. They look like they'd be a major inconvenience in real life, always snagging into door hinges etc.

Mr Vetock, give back my Multi-tracker!

Heh, this started back in 2nd edition, so no. I always went more for a 'vampire lestat' thing, but then don't get me started on how that series ended up. :(

And 'Flesh Eaters' were in the Rogue Trader book (and my first SM chapter!!). ...of course nobody knew they were BA successors when that book came out.

And the Blood Angels have always been a 'more or less' "codex" adhering chapter... in the 2nd edition codex (their first real codex) they still had lots of assault marines, veteran assaulters, death company assault marines and even an assault marine Honour guard; with Furioso class dreadnoughts and non-standard predator tanks.

But yeah tactical squads have always been there...

I really like the new kit. I feel the Salamanders deserve the heavy flamer more but my main gripe is that this £26 kit contains iconography on the shoulder pads, legs and custom other bitz yet other people who don't want to screw about with transfers, in my case Crimson Fists, have to pay £43 for a full tactical squad.

I get it, they don't need to make a tactical squad for every chapter but atleast lower the damn prices on the upgrade kits...

Tactical squads for BA.
That's the wrong approach. Leave them for the other chapters.
A BA army should be built around Assault Marines, with or without jump packs.
Still trying to hammer that square peg into the round hold in 7th Edition, huh?

To be fair, technically they're still a Codex chapter, everything in their fluff back to 2nd edition adheres strongly to a standard Codex organization, which is still built around Tactical marines, and GW has done nothing to change that, they've just made Assault Marines very high profile for BA's.

Yeah, but it's still kind of silly to make them a special tactical squad kit. Nobody plays BA for the tactical squads, so why not invest that effort into making a special assault squad kit?

Wrong, the two BA players i my gaming circle dose that and combine them with assult marines to great effect.
Probably also has something to do with the shift away from Assault. Games Workshop trying to give players a reason to shift their tactics away from "Fly forward with chainswords".

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

II don't get it? It costs 25 GBP for the tactical squad and 6 GBP for a shoulder = 31 GBP. Did I miscalculate?

Decals are really easy to use -- it's less effort to put a decal on a model than it is to paint a molded part, but the latter looks *much* better. Personally, I only use decals sparsely because they just look so, well, obviously decal-like.

I take your point that BA now have the cheapest (dollar-wise) tactical squad, if you want the nice markings (excluding snapfits like Ultramarine or Dark Angels in promo configurations). I suppose, you could look at it the other way... GW could create a new tactical box every half year or so, one for each major chapter

I for one, would go nuts for Iron Hands tacticals :X

To be fair The Big Four have been around since 2nd Edition, and unique BA. DA and SW kits have been a staple since then, with the Ultramarines being that fourth chapter that rounds it out.

So unless you've been playing since 1991 or so, you knew you were playing "40K, Also Starring the Crimson Fists".

You only get 5 shoulder pads in an upgrade kit. If you wanted the 10, it will cost £18. I really dislike using decals.

I am totally lost.

Shoulders come in 10:

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Crimson-Fists-Shoulder-Pads

I've bought them in Canada, but the UK version clearly says 10, and reads: 'This pack contains ten Crimson Fists Shoulder Pads - a finely detailed resin cast set.'. (replace crimson fists with w/e). Plus the shoulders clearly say, 6GBP.

Could you be looking at the upgrade pack, which also includes helms and backpacks?

A few of the new bitz will be finding a home in my planned Black Legion detachment... *cough*heavyflamer*cough*

The bulk of the kit will be used as the butchered remains of unworthy foes decorating my bases however!

I think the Tact Marines have some good points (more detail on the armor, Chapter-specific decorations) and some bad points (NIPPLES! Fangs! Wings that stick out from the armor and will get snagged on stuff) but that Sanguinary Priest is absofethinglutely amazing. So I voted positively, mostly based on the fact that the positives outweigh the negatives.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)

I like them, other then the fangs, i even like the nipple armour, gives them that more ornate historical look.
