So I'm just wondering what everyone thinks the best platform for lascannons is. Particularly in a competitive Space Marine army...

I'd say Land Raider as well but for a more affordable option, I like Predators with TL Lascannon and Lascannon side sponsons.

As a platform LRs are way over costed. 250 for two twin linked lcs?
They are durable hth deliverables, not static LC platforms.

Vendettas stopped being good when the new codex dropped. 170 for just 3 TL BS3 lascannons is not good, especially when you consider the flyer rules that force to start in reserves so can't start shooting until turn 2 but might not show until turn 4, and has limited shooting arks so has difficulty shooting meaningful targets every turn without having to go into hover and getting itself killed. Plus with a capacity of 6 it can't carry anything worth while.

possibly devastators with all lascannons? it's only 150pts or so.

I second the predator though.

413th Lucius Exterminaton Legion- 4,000pts

Atalurnos Fleetbreaker's Akhelian Corps- 2500pts

ATM the strongest single unit toting lazcannons is:

6 strong Cent dev squad/w lazcannons and missles.

You stick em on a skyshield pad and attach a cheapo tankmaster (shield eternal onry) to soak fire.

6 twinlinked lazcannons and 6 missles all with tank hunter (via imperial fists CT) and a splitfired orbital bombardment on turn one is bound to reduce a chunk of your opponents armies to tears.

Isn't that squad like 600 points for 6 lascannons? I mean, sure, they will erase a vehicle per turn, but they will be somewhat hard pressed to make back their points against any kind of MSU army.

Dev squads and Preds are probably your best bets. Which one is better depends a lot on the particulars of the rest of your list.

Sadly, this means making some space in Heavy Support! Seems like Marine Lists must struggle with just 3 slots. Seems like more of the goodness is in that slot than in other codexes...

I think the toughest Heavy Support slot goes to codex: orks

Battlewagons
Lootas
Mek Guns
Those are about the 3 best units in that codex.

But as for space marine lascannons. I would have to agree with the Devastator squad in that wall of martyrs. I mean, even if you put the Devs in some cover and give you opponents something else to shoot at I think you will see the benefits quickly.

IG can spam a lot of lascannons, but not particularly effectively really.

I would find that for 1 FA choice in the allied slot, the squadron of 3 Vendettas is hard to beat. That would make a total of 9 twin-linked shots per turn.

For pure Space Marine choice of a Predator armed with all Lascannons is a solid choice for the points cost.

Cowards will be shot! Survivors will be shot again!

A Chaos Pred with a TL Lascannon turret costs 100 pts.
AV 13/11/10 and BS4. Doesn't come any better.
You can also add 2 more lascannons on sponsons for another 40pts.

Devastators and Havocs have the problem of going down to (usually massed) anti-infantry fire.
The Predator laughs at those instead.

They can carry a PCS full of flamers. While they definitely took a serious hit, they are still not bad but you probably don't want more than 1 and you want a coms relay.

For best lascannon platform I'd probably go trilas pred too.

I've been thinking that a lot of the time lascannons find their way into my lists not on intentional platforms, but added on or as part a vehicle I was taking anyway. I have been looking at them on heavy support squads, but they add up super duper fast. Still, 5-10 lascannon shots from a unit in a turn with the potential to have that buffed by librarians, siege breakers, or masters of the signal is a terrifying prospect for whatever they get pointed at.

I'll just throw in that, of the options presented, dettas are consistant AA, as well, something that, unless I'm missing something, most of the rest of the suggestions put forth here cannot claim.
