Subject: Gravcents + Tiggy + Drop pod = bad idea?

Grav Centurions are one of the worst close combat units in the entire meta. They're practically on Tau level. If you drop pod them near enemy lines to get a good LoS shot, you'll do a fine initial volley that'll rip through the enemy after landing...but wouldnt your proximity to the enemy mean the unit can easily get charged the next turn? The unit cant fire grav overwatch, so really only Tigurius has some kind of close combat stopping power, but a unit as costly as this is IMO too expensive to be used merely for a single volley.
I think it is better if Grav Cents and Tigurius start at the back, in cover, and then if needed reposition if Tigurius rolls the teleportation power.

Who forces you to drop so close to the enemy? You just drop wherever you want and also deny the opponent's alpha-strike on the guyz.

Preventing an alpha strike, being able to alpha strike without fear, choosing exactly where and what to strike, those are just a few tactical advantages pods grant you. This combo is brutal, make no mistake.

Sure, but youre looking at at least 145 points of extra investment if you factor in the costs of the Wolf Guard Battle Leader ( HQ), Bloodclaws (Troops) and Drop Pod. And this is also if you just take them barebones. Usually you'd want to give them basic stuff that makes them worth it, so in total its more like 180 points to make your Centurions able to alpha strike.

There's plenty of uses for Space Wolves in a SM list. If you're drop podding cents, you'll probably want to be dropping at least one or two other pods at the same time to prevent your opponent from having the no brainer decision to just dump all the fire power they have into removing the cents. And at least if they do, then you'll be able to punish them for it with more marines in their backfield. Grey Hunters make excellent drop troops since they can take two specials, have the option to take standard CCWs, and have Counter Attack. I'd probably take at least one full sqaud of them in an Allied detachment. ML2 Rune Priest is the obvious choice as an HQ because while still cheap, he will contribute a lot more than a bare bones WGBL. You're gonna need more Warp Charges than TIggy can generate to manifest all those sweet buffs for the Cents anyway. Just take the right units and its not really a tax at all, and now you have the very tactically powerful option to safely deepstrike your grav cents. Just place them smartly (ie not in front of every gun in your opponent's army), target the highest threat to their survival (or avoid it through deployment), and go to town.

There's 3 common builds for cents, throw-away cents, death star cents and las/missile cents. The first type needs a pod and that's it. With las/missile cents you can either get Loth or a bunker, both work pretty well. Death star cents on the other hand are going to take up 700+ points of your army, but they'll destroy everything they touch. Youre gonna need either a chapter master on a bike with the works + Loth and Tig or alternatively Loth, Draigo +lib.
Gate is the key to getting out of combat and having either Draigo or the CM means no ones going to charge you anyway.Think of a Cent star as an MMO team and you wont go wrong.

Drop pod so that you are within 20~ inches, not right up their ass.
Make them white scars with a Libby, so they still get hit and run, if it is that much of a concern. (Or ally in some white scars).
