There is a new BA formation that allows units to DS with minimal scatter then assault if they are near enough to two Locator Beacons. Other than that, it's a long gone ability.

The FW Lucius Pattern Drop Pod allows a Dreadnought to NOT disembark the turn it comes into play. Instead, it can stay in the Pod and stay nice and safe. In the next turn, it can assault out as the Drop Pod is now open topped.
They changed the rules with the last update. You used to be able to assault out on the turn you came into play. No more.

There is an Apoc formation (slaneshi deamons) that will let you do it.
Can't remember the name, something like "symphony of the grand host". I will try to find it and let you know the book and name of the formation.

Yea the Slaaneshi one is pretty darn crazy... It allows the Slaneshi units within the Formation to Rend on a 4+ Instead of a 6. Basically, keep the darn things in reserve, Bring em all in on the same turn, multi assault, erase entire boards. =/

Planetstrike is the main area where you will see assaulting from reserve.
Essentially anything that has the Deep Strike special rule can assault the turn it Deep Strikes in.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Not to nitpick, but it was changed some time even before the last update.

Yep, Blood angels can do it now. With 3 stormraven formation, every unit with DS can go within12' of at least 2 ravens and not scatter + be allowed to assault the turn it arrives. No idea how to protectmy backline from it other than to greentide every inch of the board. Which will also auto-crash ravens in some cases

Sure, they can. However, they must carry tac marines. Though, all blood angels have furious charge, thus even tac marines will wreck most things in mellee on the charge.

Anything arriving from reserve is prohibited from assaulting with a specific permission (apparently this 3 stromraven formation contains one)

You're right, i was unclear:
With specific permission, you are unable to assault on the turn you arrive from reserve, regardless of how you arrive (deep strike, etc) unless you have specific permission.
Right now, it looks like Planetstrike allows it, and perhaps the BA stormraven formation (i haven't seen it yet)

That's a pretty nice formation, though it's not to horrifying since it's just Tac Squads that are allowed in the formation

Only Tac squads in the Formation, but any Deep Striking Bangel can benefit.
It's an interesting one, it can be distrupted and requires a good bit of setting up. The ObjSec makes it a good Objective grabber as well.
I take it Storm Ravens can have Teleport homers as well as the Tac Squads?

Not with this formation they are not.
The formation can come in Turn 1, anyone benefiting from the DS and charge cannot come in until Turn 2. Furthermore, the Tactical Marines embarked inside would not be able to Assault Turn 1, as they did not come in from DS Reserve.

No, but it seems we are getting more formations with T1 DS.
And we always have Drop Pods, that works.

Can someone with the BA codex confirm this?

They did when they weren't a flyer in 5ed. But the deep strike rule was removed in earlier 6ed (as was the case with all the pre-6ed flyers)
