Couldn't spot any reference to them in the new BA codex, although I could have missed them.

A single mention under Successor Chapters:
"The Blood Angels have founded a string of successor Chapters, each of which has inherited both the golden nobility of their forefathers, and their dark flaws. Some, such as the Lamenters or Knights of Blood, have wandered far on stranger paths. Others fight on like the heroes they are, their every selfless deed an effort to deny the beast within."

Weak. Lamenters even get burned in the codex now. Sigh.
Can't decide if I should stick with them or go for a different BA successor.
We still have the FW Badab War books.

Why are you a Lamenters fan to begin with? Their unique feature is that they suck and get their asses kicked more often then the freaking Eldar. And that ain't something worth boasting about.

Because they are tragic heroes.

I think the reason the Lamenters were passed over for any sort of description is because they are the Lamenters and the Universe hates them.
I was hoping that the people that bailed the Blood Angels out during the attack on Baal would have been the Lamenters, not the Eldar and Necrons. It would have given them some redemption. Plus the idea of the Lamenters fighting with only the basic wargear (since they lost all of their relic following the Badab War) would have been cool. They should have been given the opportunity to tell the Universe that they were tired of its gak and kicked it in the teeth.

1. I've liked the scheme ever since the original Badab War chapters splash page in RT Compendium.
2. They are heroic despite being constantly kicked in the teeth.
My biggest concern is painting multiple Stormravens to not look like a fleet of schoolbus/NY taxis in their scheme.

You have to do something impressive in order to be a hero. Simply getting your ass kicked doesn't make you a hero, even if you get a really, really, really good kicking that caves in your teeth.

I take it you're not familiar with the battle of Slaughterhouse III, arguably one of the most selfless and heroic acts ever described in 40k.
Besides, the Knights of Blood were also listed as operating on a stranger path and we don't know what the BA supplement is going to be, seeing as Space Wolves got a supplement and a campaign book, I'm sure Shield of Baal isn't the last for the BA.

You mean when the Lamenters got themselves pointlessly killed and wasted resources saving civilians despite them being utterly worthless compared to the strategic worth of an Astartes?
Salamanders are just as sentimental, only they don't get killed to a man in the process and actually consistently win battles.

They were also unique in having largely suppressed the Black Rage. I don't recall of the top of my head, but at the outset of the Badab War, not a single Lamenter had ever fallen to the Black Rage, and that it raised eyebrows how the first incidents of "Death Company Lamenters" appeared during that conflict, though we're still talking about single-digit out of the whole chapter.
Also, were I to ever play a successor to the boys with nipple armour, it'd be the Lamenters, as I can relate to being obscenely unlucky.
|
Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

They thought they cured themselves of the Black Rage.
It then came back.

The Lamenters are supposed to be hated/mistrusted/burned/unappreciated by the Imperium at large. Given that the Codexes are semi-written from the point of view of the faction it represents, it makes perfect sense that the Lamenters would be "burned" in the Blood Angels codex.

A full Lamenter chapter can be made with 2-3 boxes of tactical marines and a whole lot of coffins.

More seriously, as someone with a soft spot for the Lamenters myself, I'm quite satisfied with their mention in the Codex. It acknowledges they still exist and haven't been forgotten and for a GW codex, that's good enough for me. I see them more as a Forge World chapter and FW's job/task (or Black Library, perhaps) to advance any significant plot elements with them, not GW's.

Exactly, also it's a perfectly valid to like an army even if they aren't exactly the most successful in fluff. This isn't elementary school: so,etching doesn't need to be "the best" to be ones favorite.

The fact that they aren't successful (but still giving their honest hardest effort) makes them more likeable to some people. It's a refreshing change of pace from all the "Your army is an uber invincible Mary Sue" stuff that goes on in the WH40k fluff.
...kinda like a Space-Marine Imperial Guard bastard child or something, I suppose.

They just look sad, their color, their iconography, their history.
Just sad.
I pity them. Their lives are miserable and they fail a dozen times, other Astartes hate them and leave them for dead multiple times, then finally they make a friend with another chapter and they end up chaos following.
Poor guys.

Lamenters decend on wings of checkered fire to the battle field, bringing with them the secret uber weapon that kills daemons and tyranids alike with a single blow/shot/splat. They save the day but are promptly killed to the last man. Excepting those who were in the bathroom at the time and are now tasked with rebuilding the entire chapter. Again. For like the third time this week.

I was looking at them some time ago to square off against my Carcharodons and did a little research. Sadly I don't think they're doing too well against the Nids, not as lucky as the Mantis Warriors. I think their history is pretty cool and when I finally finish my current projects I may just help them to re-build a little!!

the lamenters are a hard luck chapter, but on the other hand I suspect that they're also a chapter of survivors. I see em as being one of those chapters that is often reported dead but somehow always manages to survive
