Hi All
This is the list I am thinking of using in a comp tournament in Jan.
Just wondering what peoples thoughts on it are and what you would change if you could.
HQ
Farseer - Stone, Spear
Warlock
Lhamean - Venom (Dual Cannons)
Troops
5x Dire Avengers (Wave Serpent - Scatter / Cannon)
5x Dire Avengers (Wave Serpent - Scatter / Cannon)
5x Dire Avengers (Wave Serpent - Scatter / Cannon)
5x Kabalite Warriors - Venom (Dual Cannons)
Fast Attack
3x Eldar Hornets (Pulse Lasers)
1x Razorwing Jetfighter (Dark Lances, Splinter Cannon, Shatterfield Missiles)
Heavy Support
1x Wrathknight
3x Vauls (D Cannons)
1x Nightspinner
I think I have all bases covered really, AA, Anti Blob, AT, ObSec, Psy Support, AMC etc.
What would you change and why? The Nightspinner I am not convinced about, but its only 115pts which doesnt give me much to play with on anything else...

Just a few questions;
1) is the warlock there for conceal, and both farseer and warlock go with the d-cannons?
2) why shuriken cannons on the wave serpents and not holo fields?
3) why dark lances on the razorwing when you give it a splinter cannon and shatterfield missiles?
Other than that it looks solid, I can see why the night spinner is in there.

Do you not worry about the 24" range on the D cannons being prohibitive?

1) Yes Conceal, or if enemy has loads of ignores cover I roll on Sanctic and hope for +1 invul. Farseer is with them as well for Ignores Cover and 4+ Invul from Divination.
2) I dont always fire the shields off so I like to have another gun to shoot. Holo Fields are useful I agree though, if I had the pts I would put them on the Serpents.
3) Shatterfields are S7 Shred, useful for throwing at stuff, the Lances are there mainly for AA if I need it.
Smitty, yes the 24" is prohibitive, however there are loads of deep striking armies around and anything that comes within 24" of the unit (especially with ignores covers) is going to have a bad day. That allows me to control range somewhat as most of my weapons are 36" with a 12" move or straight up 48".
The Nightspinner I am not sure about, it doesnt really add that much to be honest except I like the Torrent flamer a lot for shooting at bikes etc.
But 115 pts isnt much to make up if I drop it. If I put Holo's on the Serpents I have 60 pts left which I cant do much with except maybe take a unit of rangers. Automatically Appended Next Post: Wilson wrote:Subject: [1850] - Eldar / Dark Eldar - Comp List - Need help Tweaking

You could do this:
- remove the night spinner
- downgrade the d cannons to shadow weavers (makes up for the loss of the night spinner for anti hoard)
- remove the lhameans venom, and just put the lhameans in eserve or on an objective all game
- add a second wraithknight in for more board control and another major threat.

Maybe not then, due to some good arguments the list is good, if you really wanted, take out the night spinner for holo fields on the serpents and night shields on the razorwing, but not totally necessary.

I think d-cannons are gonna be a good purchase with all these alpha strike armies we are seeing, yes 24 inches isn't ideal but they do turn those 24 into a killing zone

Yeah prevents people sticking infiltrating stuff too close and also means anything that deep strikes will be in a nice little pile to get shot at. The comp rules allow template weapons to fire at Invisible units at BS1 so they will likely still be very useful against some stuff and negate a load of FNP rolls. A single Talos is next to useless, the night spinner is much much better all round. It can work wonders against crisis suits tau lists/ Necron wraiths, plus it as a torrent flamer! It's gonna be seriously under estimated by most people, which is why you should have it in your list. But, if you wanna try something different, you could give a Warp hunter a whirl.
I don't see the point of the Razorwing, if you want decent anti-air grab some reapers + a fast shot exacrch and put them in a WM bunker with a Lascannon.

played aginst this list (and player) twice with drop pod blood angels and wolves. lost both in close games. the vauls wrath/seercmmbo is brutal and the talos makes a great guardianfor them

I would contemplate taking 6 d-canons.. I know it is extreme but currently your one squad fires barrage templates all at the place the first one hit, i.e. the same target spot (you know that right?) they don't work like normal shooting at all.. I just think being able to use a night spinner is nice, but being able to use 6 d-canons is actually very very strong. ( I own 9 and they are pretty much the only thing on the eldar list that is always like *oh *they*won't*be*that*good - but they always exceed expectations) I like the pulse lasers with the hornets but I am not sure you need 3x2 .. how about some bright lances instead to save points? In fact you might want to swap them all ... don;t get me wrong I like pulse lasers normally (4 shots is great) but that squad is going to saturate 12 shots str 8 per turn and I just think there aren't enough things in the game that need that that 6 bright lances wouldn't do just as well.. (the only exception to this are the high wound mid toughness tyranid monsters but you have the serpent shield too remember?)

Bright lances are the same pts but 12" less range and 1 less shot so it makes no sense to swap them.
The Vauls are mainly there for objective camping duty, shooting deep strikers and a fire magnet. I don't really need anymore of them to be honest.
In those 2 games tonight they killed a mass pile of terminators (twice), a squad of longfangs, most of a command squad and a few other bits.
Should be good like this I think.
The Talos did good as well, murdered a drop pod and a few other units.

Razorwing is for killing blobs mostly with a touch of anti air. Seems to work quite well.
