I've been looking at the current models, and some of them don't fit in the movie. Thranduil never rode a horse, Bard never used a windlass. What's up GW?
Also the wood elf infantry does not resemble the movie models at all! NOr were there any Mirkwood cavalry in the movie...
When are Dain and the Dwarves showing up? Anyone have a release schedule, if there is one?

It sucks that the best models from the movie...the dwarven army and the wood elves, don't look like they will get plastics :(

My guess is that if they release any more it will be after the extended version due to some parts missing from the cinematic version ie the ram cav seen in the trailer and there is likely an embargo on these things to avoid spoillers and so on

I think they are just releasing what they are obliged to by their contract. I'd be surprised if we see any more releases for the game.
It's a pity as I've allot of time for the game but all indications are that GW will drop it some time this year.

im pretty sure they will have to support it for a year after the films release. At least beyond the release of the dvds for the hobbit series

Having now seen the film (and what a film it was, completely awesome) I can't help but feel saddened that this wasn't made and managed in the same way as the LotR releases. Go back to RotK era and we'd have almost certainly seen:
Plastic Laketown Militia
Plastic Iron Hills Dwarves (and Ram Cavalry)
Plastic Mirkwood Elves
Thranduil on Elk
Dain on War Pig
Plastic Gundabad Orcs
Maybe plastic Olog-Hai
Maybe plastic Goblin Mercs
Azog in armour
Plastic trolls like the Isenguard/Mordor on with options for the Wrecker, Armoured and Battering-Ram variants
And I'd probably have bought all of it. Such a shame that so much awesomeness went to waste.

I look forward to seeing your progress! Are you going to convert from Grimhammers (adding shields and pikes) or sculpt from scratch.
Any plans for Dain? I'd love to see someone have a crack at modelling the Sweariest Dwarf in Middle Earth.

Whoops, wrong thread!
Grimhammers look like a decent shout for Iron Hills dwarves. Shame they are the only plastic heavily armoured dwarves, as they are pretty expensive, though lovely models.

I got around to watching the last movie yesterday and it made me angry at GW for all the potential they completely pissed away. They should feel ashamed of themselves. I would have thrown piles of money at them if they'd had releases like we had back in the LOTR days with plastics for the various armies involved and a decent selection of troops instead of a measly 3 poses in overpriced failcast for most troops. If it had of been any other company I also would have been happy with reasonably priced monopose metals/resin as long as they had lots of nice poses, but instead GW gives us overpriced resin with very few poses. *shakes fist at GW*

From a discussion I had with the proprietor of the Denver GW the amount they have to give WETA makes the future of the game pretty much in doubt. I love the LOTR/Hobbit far more than any other mini game out there, but GW is not making much money off of it, and while he didnt just come out and say it, I got the impression that GW is just going through the motions. :(

I agree. It's obvious that when they didn't make a giant pile of money off of Goblin town and the over priced plastics that got released at the same time, they stopped trying.
GW seem totally insensitive to the idea that price has any effect at all on success. I would have happily bought every single plastic kit they released for the Hobbit, if the prices had been even approaching normal. As it is, I have only bought my absolute favourites, 3 years after the initial release.

Agreed entirely. I crumbled and brought a box of Grimhammers today, but that's only a) after over two years of deliberation and b) the price of the Wargames Factory Orcs I'll be using as Azog's lot is so good it brings the average price per model below £1 for the whole project. Such a shame, as they are nice models in the flesh/plastic, just not neccessarily £20 nice.

Same, won't actually buy Grim Hammers myself and will even direct others to get them from discount stores if they do get them as it is quite silly pricing.

I bought 2 boxes of them without regret, these models are great, as for pricey...they come out to about $3.50 each. so while spending $35 for 10 models seems excessive, when compared to alot of other situations, thats not a bad price per model. Consider that reapers bones ( which arent close to equal in quality) are about that.

True, tbh it's not so much that i don't want to buy them for the price, more that i can't afford to at the moment. Once i crack for one thing my basket will only grow!

My issue is that I recently got a bunch of Tre Manor dwarves that fit really well into the LOTR aesthetic, and are scale appropriate. So it feels wrong to buy more dwarves before I've got them painted up.
I will be using them for LOTR though, they are gorgeous models.

£20 for 12 models is really not that bad. especially considering you only need about 2/3 boxes and some heroes for a fully playable army. and of course the fact they are a massive step up in terms of detail and quality compared to LotR range.
Looking at the amount of plastic kits released for AUJ its clear to see GW had high hopes for the Hobbit to be a success, but unfortunaly not enough people got behind it on it;s release to warrant the same level of support for the following 2 films.
as for the lack of consistency with the models and films, PJ made far too many changed in post for ANY manufacturer to keep up with (see Beorn in Dol Gulder from lego)
The impression i get is that with poor sales of the AUJ range, even worse sales of the DOS range (apparenty the rules supplement fold fewer than 1000 copies) GW have deemed it not worth throwing all their rescources into it. Plus, if they had made plastic kits, they may be redundant by the time of release with all the changed PJ made (he added armout to azog less than a month before the films release, completley changed the appearence of dains army from mostly cavalry to entierly infantry... Dain was originally widing a turked boar, not a comical pig, etc etc...)
basically, they've done what they can from a business point of view. I'm still hopeful for a another wave of models featuring Dain's army and some more baddies.
I'm not saying they've done all they can to keep the range strong, but it does sound like they have much stricter conditions with the contract they have with warner bros. than what they had with New Line for LOTR. and wit the film makes changing major plot points last minute it's really hampered GW's ability to keep ahead of the game.

The crazy price increases compared to the LOTR range are what killed the profits. The prices for their plastics currently are double what they were a few years ago, and mounted characters now cost as much as an entire mounted unit, but in an inferior material.
I love the Eagles, new wargs and mounted orcs- enough that I paid full retail for them. I really like Azog, Bolg, the Mirkwood Rangers, Thorin and Company, Grimhammers and Warriors of Erebor and I am still tempted to pick them up. I think the Goblins, Palace Guard and Rivendell Knights are all nice miniatures and I would be happy to own them if they were reasonably priced, but will not pay for them at current prices. The only models I am not at least a bit enthusiastic about is the plastic Legolas, the mirkwood spiders and Beorn, none of which live up to what I would want from the minis. But it is all over priced, and that is the main thing limiting the sales. If you go back to the initial release and look at the posts here, there were a lot of people who were interested and checked out the figures only to recoil in horror at the pricing.
Unfortunately, GW dug a hole for themselves there, because I think their artists and technical guys did a fantastic job on the whole. It is a real shame that they didn't turn the Hobbit into a success.
