Sacrifice to the Dark Gods

I got the 40k Dark Vengeance box set for me and my son to play at Christmas. I know of no other players in my area (there is not a gaming community here) so I am on my own for the rules. I am doing the missions from the back of the getting started book and I had some questions to make sure I understand the rule correctly. This is the mission where All the Chaos Marines and Cultist are attacking the Helbrute.

Stats
Chaos Cultist BS3 with Autoguns S3 Ap-
Chaos Marine BS4 S4 with Boltgun S4 AP5 (one with a Power fist Sx2 Ap2)
Chaos Marine Champion BS4 S4 with plasma pistol S7 AP2
Helbrute WS4 BS4 S6 F12 S12 R10 I4 A3 HP3 with Multimelta S8 AP1 Heavy1, Melta and Power Fist.

Here are my Questions.
1. The cultists can’t hurt the Helbrute because the Autogun is S3 so the max damage they could is D6+3 (9) and the weakest armor on the rear is 10. Correct?

2. The Chaos Marine with Boltguns can hurt because they are S4 so D6+4 can be 10 on a roll of sixs at the rear. But they can only do Glancing hits because the max roll is 10? The Champion with Plasma Pistol is the only one who can do penetrating shots correct?

3. Armor Save does the Helbrute get Armor saves? Do Vehicles in general get armor saves? I don’t see anything on their stat blocks but it seems like they would due to being armored?

4. The Helbrute’s Multi-Melta pretty much just kills one Cultist at a Time. The melta only gets the extra die roll on vehicles correct?

I know these are basic questions but I am just getting started and I didn’t have any one local to ask.

Thanks for any help.

1) Correct

2) Correct

3) Vehicles do not get armor saves. Seems dumb. but it is true. Their AV takes the place of the save.

4) Correct. its one-shot and the two dice is only when trying to penetrate a vehicles AV.

Ways to kill vehicles include powerfists, and meltabombs if you have them. I am not familiar with the options for that mission but if you can get any melta guns, or power fists, thats the best way to do it.

Most vehicles in the game can be hull pointed out against their side armor pretty readily by weapons like autocannons, as well.

Yes you are correct, str 4 is needed to hurt the rear armor at least, unless the haywire rule is around.

Correct, but the space marines also have krak grenades, which are str 6 in melee but will hit front armor and only 1 attack per model then.

A vehicle can take cover saves from shooting and invul saves in both melee and shooting.

Yes, the multi-melta gets the extra dice to pen at half range, as per the melta rule.

Thanks for the answers it lets me know I am on the right track.

Quick question, the Helbrute gets 3 attacks. The Multi-Melta is a Heavy1 which attacks can it do?
one attack with Multi-melta, the other 2 attacks can only be with the power fist only,
or is it 2 melta attacks since it is multi and 1 Powerfist

or am i completely wrong?

Thanks.

The attack stat for the hellbrute is for hand to hand combat. When shooting, you use the heavy 1 profile, and get only one shot. The multimelta can't be used in hand to hand.

One of the Chosen has a Combi-Melta, correct? I remember it being modeled to have one. So in that case, he has a weapon that is a Boltgun and may fire once per game as a Meltagun instead. That would also help kill the Helbrute very reliably. I think the 'plan' of the mission is to inspire tactical thinking. Distract the Helbrute character with Cultists that can't hurt it, so the Helbrute kills one per shooting phase and the Combi-Melta Chosen gets close enough to fire his gun using the Melta special rule.

The "combi-Chosen" is the Aspiring Champion included in the 7th Edition re-release of the DV set. He may not be included in the list of models you get for the mission.

Don't forget your krak grenades that are s6 ap4. You can throw one instead of firing a weapon. And models can use them in mellee exchanging all attacks for a single attack with s6 ap4. Read grenade rules in BRB.
