Generally, they don't.
Terminators are used as pinpoint heavy-hitters, so they don't spend alot of time in a single engagement.

During a prolonged engagement? They just teleport away.

RELOAD? What the hell kind of science fiction do you think this is, realistic?

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

The best kind, obviously

Anyway, they don't reload. They just have spare Storm Bolters.
After terminators are done, the battlefield is just littered with discarded bolters.

Yes, I am making gak up.

Probably a Japanese gameshow. They have some messed up on TV over there.

Makes me wonder why don't they deepstrike stuff directly into the enemy...

Only on the tabletop does landing a drop pod on top of a block of infantry cause problems for people inside the pod. Normally, you would specifically aim for those infantry blobs, because your pod slamming into them is going to kill most of them, and those it doesn't kill it will knock over, making them easy victims for your disembarking Space Marines.

Did that all the time in the dawn of war games

Unfortunately, the Terminator isn't reloading the shotgun at all, he's cocking it.

The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. - Eisenhorn: Malleus

Given how "precise" deepstriking actually is in the tabletop, massively deepstriking live ammo on the battlefield in order to smash in enemy heads would be more efficient.

In all honesty, though, in a world where the perpetum mobile is an actual thing, I wouldn't worry about ammo

A terminator is never out of ammo, nor does he reload. He has precisely the amount he needs to.

Well basically the same way as every akimbo option in call of duty gets reloaded.

On a more serious approach I could also think of a mechanism that is located in the terminator armor. When they have to reload the empty clip gets ejected, and a new one comes out of an ammo depot in their legs for example. They would then only have to "hit" the gun on that ammo clip, basically on the fly.

The answer is obvious, there are no bullets inside the ammo boxes, just faith in the emperor.

Failing that the tiniest bullet factory in existence, run by squat children is squeezed in there.

Isn't the average game of 40k meant to last about 90 seconds of real world time?

I would assume a double wide storm bolter mag holds 50 rounds minimum as a normal sickle mag holds 30 according to the fluff.

90 seconds with 50 rounds is a about a bolt every 2 seconds which makes sense, thesr are marines, they judge their shots and make every round count. Reloading happens after the engagement and before the next one, perhaps the regular marines catch up and hand them fresh magazines before moving off to the next combat.

For fire suppression they have Flamers and assault cannons to lay down continuous fire.

That's just what I was thinking. Terminator armour is really bulky, lots of places where stuff could be stored.

I thought they were called storm bolters because they would be ued to lay down a 'storm' of boter fire, as suggested by having two bolters bolted together as one weapon and used with terminator armour? If anyone is going to want large amounts of firepower rather than carefully aimed single shots its a marine in TDA.

That.... Alright that was bada but terminators don't have sleeves... And they only backflip in the C. S. Goto universes. I like the ammo runt idea, the thought of guardsmen cowering behind a wall of terminators, dreading the inevitable *click* of empty that calls him into the fray. That or the children ammo factory. Life is cheap. Kids are cheaper.
