Their left hands have power fists. I understand this could hamper the reloading process

Do you see spare clips anywhere on the model? They go into fights with one magazine and finish fights with one magazine. Fire discipline.

That or the models are an abstraction not intended to be taken completely literally.

And they've got a special call-and-response ritual for it sort of like the Jem'hadar getting ketracel-white in DS9.

They Deep Strike more ammunition directly into the magazine. From time to time, you'll see a Termi suddenly drop dead because the ammo DS'd right into his head.

And in actual answers, the Powerfist can be powered down and spare clips are on the belt (not shown on the model because of reasons) for the 'side by side' style mags. Not sure where the drums come from but there are spares. Plenty of 'reloads his Storm Bolter' in Terminator books.

They don't, terminators always have exactly the right amount of ammo.

Powerfists are fully capable of doing anything from reloading bolters to picking flowers.

Makes me wonder why don't they deepstrike stuff directly into the enemy...

This is probably why they use a storm bolter. It is fed by box magazine, which is easier for the power fist to manipulate.

Maybe they do it Robocop style and keep a second gun loaded and housed in their leg armor.

Think of something clever to say.

If its a Chaos Terminator, then the answer is the combi bolter has ammo summoned from the warp! Or a mutated 3rd arm reloads it for him.

The explanation for the Obliterator ammunition is bad ass. The Obliterator generates power for his lascannon, and plasmacannons, and he grows the ammo for his other guns.

They backflip, dropping the empty mags midair. Fresh mags are dropped into the stormbolter - also midair - by floating servoskulls.

The traditional way is to use the powerfist for it, but only rookies would do that and every Terminator is a veteran.

I like to think the battlefield is swarming with chapter serfs and servitors that act as runners, medevac and supply lines for marines.

I like the idea of a bunch of serfs bravely cowering behind a terminator squad, ready to change their ammunition drums in the middle of a firefight.

Yea it's a cool mental image but terminators board space hulks and teleport into the most intense combat situations. Would serfs even be able to follow where they go?

They should really make the storm bolter belt fed like the heavy bolter.

I vaguely recall reading that due to the bulkiness of terminator armor, reloading is impossible. So they just... don't.

I think this was a FW publication but for the life of me, I can't remember which. Badab maybe?

Or very big clips.

Anyway, they clearly use the infinite ammo cheat.

Indeed, in the Ultramarine Omnibus Calgar sips wine from a fine crystal glass while wearing his Gauntlets. Power Fists are big, but marines still have fine motor skills with them. And the powerfield doesn't do anything unless there is also force behind it. A marine loading his bolter won't exert much force on the magazine whiles he's loading it.

Do you see spare clips anywhere on the model?

No, but then again I've never seen spare clips on anyone. Space magazines, sure. Clips? What are clips?

Yes the last one... look at how big the magazine is. Attach one to the belt or leg and the terminator can't move his arms anymore properly. Remember that the miniatures are in 28mm Epic Scale. Means that every weapon is bulkier and larger then it would actually be, proportions are squished (compare cadian infantry proportions to FW Krieg/Elysians and to historical/realscale miniatures in 28mm...)

They did a pretty good job with their real artworks in their campaign books (not talking about the upscaled miniature pictures they have on ... like half of their pages). Not a terminator but you can see the extra level of detail that makes this marine a believable combat unit. Magazine pouches, grenades, on the back some kind of storage canister, on the other side possibly more magazine pouches or a boltpistol holdster. This level of detail would barely be noticeable on a miniature/ to small to model, and from a distance it propably wouldnt look that good.

Only on the tabletop does landing a drop pod on top of a block of infantry cause problems for people inside the pod. Normally, you would specifically aim for those infantry blobs, because your pod slamming into them is going to kill most of them, and those it doesn't kill it will knock over, making them easy victims for your disembarking Space Marines.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I read somewhere I believe they somehow managed to load it themselves even with those huge powered fists so I guess they get some training in this. Would be interesting being a fly on the wall during one of those early training-sessions.

Since I saw a vid from a gameshow where a guy undressed a woman by means of an exvacator I no longer doubt the manual dexterity of powerfists... yet I believe since terminators need tentacles instead of arms in order to fit into those dislocated shoulder joints they just pull them tentacles out of their armour's arms and get the job done. That or they do it like walking: standing still, and when you look away and look back again, they have magically covered that extra inch they needed in order to call a charge...
