okay, so I realized that this thread is full of nothing b Dwarfs, so... Let's just call this one the Dwarf Thread shall we?

I got these guys in a trade and kind of fell in love completely. I never really liked metal minis, but these Hammerers are just too cool. I don't even mind that they're all mono pose.

I realize no one likes dwarfs because well you know, GW makes gak so easy to spam, but that's not my intention with this army. I will probably leave it at the two war machines and fill up on Warriors, Longbeards and maybe some of those newfangled copters...

Anyways below you will find WIPs of the new army, I hope you enjoy looking at these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!

As always CnC is welcome and appreciated!

Thanks for looking!

Okay, so more random shots. This time it's more dwarves, I traded a pal some Orks for 26 random-ish dwarves, plus a cannon and a ton of bits, so looks like I have 3 WFB armies now.

I lucked out and got 10 metal Hammerers, 10 missile troops (some are armed with crossbows and some with handguns) and a handful of cloak wearers. Not sure what the previous owner was trying to do with them, but I have enough bits to turn the missile dudes into a proper unit of Quarrelers/Thunderers. There are enough dudes to make a skeleton crew for the cannon, plus a crew for the organ gun that came with the bits. Then there should be enough dudes to make a Lord and maybe a few bodyguards.

Here they are after a quick overnight stay in the Dettol Hotel.

Here is the cannons. I need to make a carriage for the organ gun, but that should b simple!

... I hope...

Here a couple Dwarven war machines that I recently traded for. Obviously I'm not gonna leave one gun on the sprue, so I bashed up a carriage for it!

The kicker is that I only have a handful of models, but there are a ton of war machine bits! You can see what I've done here and I think this will work just fine. Perhaps future purchases will enable me to add crewmen to both machines but for now I'm happy. The Organ Gun chassis is built out of an Ork Trukk ram, a few movement tray edges and a handful of dwarf bits. I know the wheels are angled but I didn't want to mess around with axles and drilling. I don't exactly have any tools or even a whole lot of bits so for what I have to work with I think it's pretty alright! Looks the part and it's made out of all GW bits so no one can complain!

Now for some magic!

Some of these dwarfs were so badly assembled that I had no choice but to hack them apart. Strange war gear combos, axes glued onto everyone. It was a big mess. Luckily I discovered the freezer method thread earlier today so the next batch of mangled dwarfs should come apart better than this guy did!

Fortunately I'm a crafty guy and far too cheap to bin a model, even if it was a trade, and I was able to bring this fellow back to life as well as another bloke who suffered a similar fate. I simply carved away the bad parts with a knife until I could get a decent fit with the new torso front and then took some modelling putty and sandwiched it between the two halves, with a drop of super glue on each surface. The excess putty filled any gaps and a bit of knife work trimmed away the dross. I know it ain't the prettiest, and I'd be hard pressed to sculpt in any missing details with the putty I've used, but it's far better than losing a mini!

And then bam! Suddenly the ugly duckling turns into a nasty dwarf with a big hammer!

Probably gonna use this bloke as a Lord, just because I think it's fitting. It's like a Cinderella story!

Okay, this is quickly becoming the Dwarf thread!

I promise I'll get back to work on the elves! It's just these dwarfs... They're so dwarfy! Th lil guys have always been one of my favourite fantasy races, no matter what the setting. In fact I'd probably play Squats if they were still around!

Anyways here are some shots of the Dwarfs I've been working on.

Note the bases made from cardboard. They seemed like an easy project but getting them the right size proved to be a pain! They're still not quite perfect but oh well, its a temporary measure anyways.

I just wanted to talk about the War Machines for a minute here and explain some of my reasoning behind them.

Everything should have a base. I have no idea why GW doesn't just give you a proper base for your war machines but they don't. They even go so far as to say in the rules "since war machines have no bases". I think this is total BS, GW just being lazy and not really wanting to think things through. So instead of messing around with extra crewmen, bases and everyone keeping withing 1" of the thing I've decided just to go with my instincts and base the darn things!

YMDC might be a better spot for this topic but I want to talk about it here. Besides I'm not really looking for input on the idea. It's set in stone now! Lol. Anyways this is how I planned on running the unit. The war machine is now based, so movement becomes a cinch. We now have a concrete measuring point for all movement. On both guns the muzzle lines up with the base edge so there is no MFA. Admittedly the base is slightly smaller than three 25mm bases, and the sides are slightly larger than, but for the purposes of fighting in close combat I really don't see how this can affect much. I mean, how long can a war machine hold in combat really? Not long I'm willing to bet. Perhaps at a later date I will measure out a more exact base size so that the problems of base to base combat are alleviated, but right now I'm not convinced that is is necessary. When the war machine takes a wound I will simply remove a piece of equipment, until only the gunner (and the gun) remains, at which point the whole model can be removed.

I know it looks a little strange having only one gunner, and maybe later when new purchases allow for it I will add in a second crewman, but my sensibilities will simply not let me waste good models on an aesthetic when those models could just as easily be made into actual playable minis.

A cannon comes with 3 crew, well to me that says "cannons come with 2 crewmen and a conversion opportunity".

That's my blurb about War Machines! Hope that gives you some insight into my decision, and you don't think I'm just being a frugal bastard. Well... I am a frugal bastard but that's beside the point!

Now I'll run home and snap a few more pics of the dwarfs, I've done a bit of work to some of them and they're all spray primed and ready to be painted. Unfortunately for the dwarfs I have to complete their old enemies, the elves, first or I'll lose motivation.

I even managed to put together a 700 point list for this army, so maybe I'll have a few games with them. Thanks to the local used book shop owner I was able to snap a few photos of an out of date codex and thus put together the list. Haha! Take that GW!

Wow, I am a bastard!

Ps: I did promise to come in and buy the darned thing! I go in there and buy the old WD issues like every week so I have a little bit of pull. It was a bit of a funny conversation to have though.

You want to take pictures of a book?

Yeah, I want to play with my toys...

That's awesome!

Nice work on the Dwarfs. My Night Goblins are mostly from that set. It was a really good deal.
