So I had a game last night were we came across this little dispute, and thoughts would be helpful:

a flying daemon prince gets a psyk-out grenade thrown at him and he chooses to jink. The grenade hits. the rules state that a psyker hit by a psyk-out grenade suffers a perils in addition to any other damage. Strength of the grenade is only 2, so no damage can be done. Can the daemon prince roll a jink save to prevent being affected by perils? Or is he denied a jink because the perils is caused by being hit?

thanks!

Since jink only confers a cover save and cover saves can only be taken against wounds, it appears that the daemon price would still take the perils effect from the psyk-out grenade. The prince is not denied the jink it just in this case jink has no real benefit.

He has to take the perils.
In addition, S2 vs T5 (a Demon Prince) can cause a wound.

How does a Psyk-out grenade hit a flying model?

they can.

i didnt even think you could throw psych out grenades in the shooting phase though. Is that how they changed them.

They used to only work first round of assault phase.

They're different now. They have a shooting profile and a special ability that used to be exclusive the the missiles on the Stormraven. Now the Stormravens lost their 'anti-psyker' missiles and the grenades have the ability instead.

Yeah...but..why was the Daemon Prince not swooping? If he had the psyk-out grenade couldn't affect him.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Bring hit on a 6 while still being able to Vector Strike?

If the grenade causes damage it looks like he can jink the damage. He cannot however jink the secondary effect.

Unless they had skyfire, from memory. In which case FMC dont get the protection from Blasts while swooping.

Yep I want to spend 300 points on a combat monster so that i can do a single S6 vector strike every turn

Yep, you want to spend 300 points on a combat monster so that you can complain when a grenade cause your combat monster to perils. This is a shooting edition, not a melee edition.

I thought they took out the perils of the warp damage from psyk-out grenades. I thought they were more of a defensive grenade that stops the extra +1 attacks when a unit charges you if they are psyker or deamons.

They never had the 'perils of the warp' effect before this latest codex. So no they didn't take it out.

It changed in 7th edition, its now a str 2 small blast that causes perils on hit.

Don't forget that perils isn't necessarily bad.

After all, it's entirely possible that your "combat monster" just got a 3++, Smash, Fleshbane, and Armorbane because I threw a grenade at it.

For an LD9 model that's a 13% chance. I wouldn't celebrate taking a Perils.
