MOTHER OF GOD, YES, YES, OH YES. I had Total War: Lord of the Rings (the mod) and loved it, this is amazing! Although equally depressing, because I only have an ultrabook at the moment and it struggles with Minecraft.
Thanks for sharing, I'm so glad he included pictures. I'm sure one of the mods will be kind enough to link the proof into your post if you ask 'em kindly Automatically Appended Next Post: Have an exalt, bearer of news. Still unsure on what they do, but it sounds suitably appreciative

Guys, we've known about this for a long time now.
In fact, Creative Assembly and Sega announced it a while back.
Heck, I know someone who sculpted the lizardmen in game, which are looking great.

We knew they had the contract, but they never officially stated it was going to be a Total War game (even though that was the obvious conclusion).
Still, not liking the use of the word ''mobile'' in there.

I didn't see that in my cursory glance earlier, uh oh. And I hadn't heard of it, so it's still news to me

Actually, the mention of Mobile was for the Total War mobile game, not the Warhammer game.

Just in time for GW to ditch Warhammer as it stands for a skirmish game.

I don't know first hand, but all I heard for the first 8 months was that it was broken at launch, and not well repaired since. The forums were just a mess of bad news. I haven't gotten it yet, though I suppose when it hits 20$ or so on Steam I will feel obligated to. I have played every Total War since the original Shogun, and loved them all, and ancients is my favorite period.

That depends on how much Sega strips from the game to sell to you as DLC whilst simultaneously forcing it out the door before it was finished.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Take my moneys, take my moneys NOW!
I'm excited to see how they'll treat magic, monsters, and larger than human creatures.
I feel that magic being simple recharging abilities would be a bit of a copout.
Also wondering if characters will have a greater focus. It wouldn't quite make sense for all wizards to be units of guys instead of one guy and some bodyguard.
My personal view on how it should be done.
1) Characters work on the strategic map much like they have previously, but make characters recruitable.
2) Have characters be independent entities from armies. There wouldn't be any "general" equivalent like in previous games. Instead, there are different character types. Warlord, Wizard, etc... On the campaign map, they'd function much like Agents have previously. But if they're attached to an army, they are also a battlefield entity. before a battle, you can attach the character to a unit in your army. They will lead that unit and be a member of it during the battle and add their abilities to it. The general for any battle will be the character with the highest rank or command value(or whatever mechanic is available)
So you can use the same character both as a battle field unit AND as a strategic multiplier. IE: My wizard can support my troops on the battlefield with spells, but he can also infiltrate my opponents cities and spread magical mischief to further my agenda. "Warlord" equivalent characters can lead my armies as well as lead raids on enemy armies and settlements to damage buildings or assassinate other characters.
If armies could also attack lone characters it would also add to the danger of a lone character being detected. It would also be awesome to recount the time that your badass character singlehandedly drove off a band of soldiers sent to hunt him down. Battles with one super solos against an army could be fun. Especially if it was like a guy riding a Dragon or something he might actually win.

It had a lot of bugs early on, and the combat AI wasn't very impressive. But thats not exactly new for Total War games. Only game which had decent AI was Shogun 2, and just about every game had bugs upon launch.
Its definitely playable, especially since the last big overhaul.

Hopefully they focus on making the game good and not indulging in every warhammer nerd fantasy! I know people are going to be disappointed if every little inane detail isn't in the game.

Anyone know a tentative ETA for this?

They basically said they were very sorry and eventually gave everyone most of the DLC they released after the game came out for free. Fortunately, none of the DLC was "vital" as in it should have been in the base game.
The current version also has a couple different interesting campaigns.
Only real flaw in Rome 2 is the AI is still pretty dumb. Battles are also super quick to resolve. Morale breaks much quicker than it should. And unfortunately its tough to efficiently run down fleeing enemies. And as usual Elephants are super powerful, and they appear early on in the game as General's Bodyguards. Within 50 turns you can have Armored Indian War Elephant generals for Selucid and Carthage. And unarmored generals right off the bat.
They did manage to make Chariots useful in melee finally.

What I want the warhammer: total war game to focuse on is the 8th and pre editions of the game for the world and world building. Also for it to be season or monthly driven with the turns. For DLC I would love to see a 'Legend of Sigmar' 'The Sundering' ' Rise of Nagash' 'The War Great War of Vengence (war of the beard for you non dwarf fans)' and for an expansion like what creative assembly did with Napoleon/Atillia/ Fall of the Samurai to have the End Times as a stand alone game.
But I will be pissed to no end if this total war goes with the new edition of warhammer fantasy that is said to be floating around. I want massive battles with dozens of units and thousands of troops... not a skirmish game.

This is SEGA. The DLC will be Skaven, Dark Elves and Lizardmen, all races already in the game just unplayable because reasons.
