Just picked up some Centurions from the bits bin at the local hobby shop. I'm mainly a IG guy, but slowly building up my ultra marines. What is the best use for the centurion models? Any one configuration seem popular these days? Thanks guys.

Devastator is the popular preference.

Gravspam Devastators (Grav-Cannon and Grav-Amp, missile launcher optional) are the best choice; any other Devastator Centurion loadout is either equalled or outperformed by plain ordinary Devastators (simply because the Centurions are so expensive). Assault Centurions are a great thing to have if you're fighting melee walkers/melee Titans a lot, otherwise they're outperformed by Hammernators.

The popular cheezeball build is a whole bunch of grav-amp centurion devs and an attached psyker rolling on demonology to get the teleportation spell.

I think it's probably better not to upgrade to missile launchers, you might face an ork horde or something.

Las can be okay. Cover camping in the same backfield run as a Techmarine with Thunderfire Cannon gives you a pretty durable fire support core.

As above, grav cannons and hurricane bolters. They just need a psyker of some sorts,
Perhaps the cheapest choice a DA Libby with PFG, Prescience is a must

Grav Cents are pretty much objectively the best.

Lascanon+ML Cents are okay (if only because they have a 48" range). The equivalent loadout from regular Devastators is somewhat cheaper, but Cents do it with only 1 heavy support slots, and with the ability to move and shoot.

Assault Cents are underrated IMO. If you give them Hurricane Bolters and TL Meltaguns, they have a rather good amount of firepower (in addition to their their attacks-at-initiative Siege Drills, which are very powerful in close combat). Their issue, of course, is that you need to arrange some sort of delivery mechanism - if you have a spare Stormraven or Land Raider that you're not using for anything else, put them in it. Otherwise they'll never make it into range to shoot or charge.

Using Ultramarines? Grav Cents with Tigirius maybe the strongest combination. With the reroll on getting and casting psychic power. You are almost sure to grant the grav cents Ignore cover, AP2, 5 shots per man wounds on targets' armor save . And on the defence side, the whole unit get 4++

Thank you gentlemen! It sounds like grav cannon wins! This forum is so nice. I don't have to waste money buying new models because I unknowingly nerfed my own models.

I do have land raider that could deliver the assault cents, but I have hammer termies for that job. They pretty much kill anything. I could imagine the looks on the faces of my usual opponents when 3 cent with drills pop out. Priceless, but i think I'll go Grav.

Just for fun thoughts, 3 assault centurions with an allied BA Sanguinary Priest delivered via drop pod is a great disruption unit with 2+/5+ FNP and majority toughness 5. He also makes them WS5 in combat.

My friend likes using iron hands for his cents so they get 6+ fnp and iwnd. Pretty sturdy unit if I say so myself.

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.
