I'm very scared myself, too - I want to be able to continue buying my square-based mass infantry! I'm more of a collector than a gamer, and I really want to get a large VC army..
I'm quite happy that I'm more or less done with my WoC army, I can play mid-high tier games at 2000 points (the standard in my area) with excess models to play larger games.
Maybe when 9th hits, not much will change and the game will continue to be masses of infantry fighting it out. I'll probably end up playing that.
If it is a 6 different army skirmish game, then I'll carry on playing with 8th.

As a Dwarf player with 2000 points, when I went into GW yesterday for my usual Saturday nerd binge of painting and talking, I was shown thanquol, and asked whether i should throw away my dwarves, given it had crushed everything I loved.
I was then reassured by the GW manger that 9th will probably be a set of rules in which you can play pre end times, end times and post end times, like 30k is pre end times and 40k is end times.
i was slightly happier, and then being shown the flaming dwarf king made me happier still, then I saw the high king was assassinated and the throne of power cracked, at which point I became sad again.
The end moral is: End times sucks if you're a good army, and so will 9th if you can't play pre end times

I was going through a period of worry due to all the rumours but i really doubt GW is going to scrap the current way of playing Fantasy & half the plastic kits, maybe add the option of a skirmish version aswell but not on purpose annoy 100% of the current player base by saying your miniatures are useless if you wanna play 9th.
The story change is obviously a personal issue, i was against it until i started reading the End Times series(currently finishing Khaine) but i have found them well written and thought out changes, nothing to complain about for me personally.
Having said that, i love all the races so don't feel one especially strong connection to one army or character, so i can understand the complaints if others do feel the "special" army or character to them has been destroyed.
So far its all positives for me but worst case scenario myself and a few of my local players plan to stick with 8th until a fan update happens, which im sure it would in the same way that the old GW specialist games have been taken over by the community.

So you want people to not express their concerns? Sure there is no concrete proof, how ever the whole internet is saying the same thing. I to am afraid of the new changes only being into fantasy for almost a year. I feel based of the rumors they want something that is on par with warmahordes. If 9th is like
Anything we read I will just stick with 8th and only buy models that are specific to my current armies.

It's not stopping me from loving Warhammer Fantasy right now.
I'm loving buying new models and painting them while I build up my collection and explore this fantastic game. To be honest I don't think about the rumors through the week much, it's just on Sundays when I venture onto dakka and read things about the game I am coming to love maybe ending in the very soon future. It makes me sad and I hope it isn't the case and that Warhammer remains recognizable in 9th to how it is now.
Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Express concerns is one thing, going off on these weird assumptions and panic fests is quite another. It is needlessly muddying the waters, misdirecting people and obscuring the truth when it does come out.

What do you mean by "going off"? Seems we are just expressing concerns as SheSpits put it. And once the truth does come out (I.e. When 9th is released), discussions like these aren't going to obscure anything.

I do think there's been a couple of occasions where people have gone... a bit panicky, but it's mostly been concern about the changes, and what it means for people's collections. I think that's legitimate.
I'm not depressed by the possible changes, but I am uncertain. It's an uncertain time in the hobby!

Within various forums I have not seen people state that the rumors are absolute truth; however, given the source, the assumption that WFB sales have been dropping, and the rules and fluff introduced by The End Times, it seems more and more likely that the rumors are true, or at least mostly true. If the rumors are true, then there is valid reason to be worried.
It seems likely that there will be some consolidation of forces, so certain players will be more negatively impacted than others. I'm sure Chaos players will fare well, for instance, but my prediction is that, say, High/Dark/Wood Elves will be given a new aesthetic for the "Host of the Eternity King." It seems highly, highly unlikely that GW will keep units/models for redundant units. As a player that spent money on the beginnings of a Dark Elf army, I'm concerned that the Dark Elves will no longer exist, and while I could certainly use Dark Elf armies for the consolidated Elven army, I might not have the time to collect all of the models I would like to have in order to keep a unified aesthetic moving forward.
The other concerning rumor is the round bases. I'm not going to continue assembling models only to discover that I may need to switch bases and potentially damage my models. For now, I'm generally not purchasing any models until solid facts are revealed about 9th Edition, and I've halted my modeling as well. I think at this point it would be foolish to continue as though the rumors don't exist since it may cause me more grief and loss of money later.

I heard some kid came into the Aberdeen store, found out all his Lizardmen were now dead, threw a tantrum and left all his stuff at the store.
While that's very extreme, if you really love your army and find out that GW have told them to bend over an take it, it doesn't make for a pleasant time.
Spoiler:
One of the other regulars at the GW that day said he'd make a model of Thorgrim being murdered by the deathmaster and wave it in my face, to which I said "Feth off, I'm still in a recovery state, I don't need that", or something along those lines.

And I can understand getting upset, considering the time, effort and money that goes into the hobby. I'm not saying that's wrong at all. But (and maybe I'm way optimistic), I'm not going to panic over rumors that haven't been confirmed. Worry a bit, sure, but not panic.
If lizardmen are officially confirmed as gone, and no longer supported, then yes, I will be sad.

I really want to get back into Fantasy but im glad I waited as with 9th Edition looming I am not even considering touching a Fantasy model until it drops (though I may pick up some of those new Skaven Stormfiends because hey are awesome!) until I see what is done with the new edition. Just remember a lot of these rumors get blown out of proportion so I am hoping that they don't do anything to drastic.

40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.

See, this is what I keep saying. People are getting all worked up, but there's really NOTHING concrete to base that reaction on. People are freaking out about what is essentially just a handful of disparate rumours glued together by conjecture and speculation.
People say that WHFB is dying, yet the ET books sell out almost instantaneously and half the WE range was sold out for months. Most of the OOP Bret models are back up on the store. The "not available" TK book has been spotted in softback. We're getting new releases faster than we ever have been before. Why pour all this money into a range you're going to gut?
We've been talking about this on the VC forums, and you can essentially cut half of our model range without affecting 95% of people's armies. There is no firm reason to believe that this "consolidation" will be anything other than an expanded alliance system. Special characters are dying, but those can very easily be replaced by new models.
So why are people concerned? This is the BEST time to be playing WHFB, because we're getting more love than we have been in YEARS. They're not going to jettison all that accumulated good will on a whim.

The ET books sold out quickly because they only had a small amount printed. Doesn't mean they're popular with anyone other than the current fans. If it had been a large print run then you might have a case.

Ah, ok. I think I misunderstood you. That is frustrating. Even if it's not that big in the scheme of the game, it's still not fun to lose things that you've got emotional attachment to.
Honestly, I was pretty frustrated with the whole End Times thing because of the loss of all of the "unofficial" settings, (Kislev, Estalia, etc). Not important to most people, not vital to the game, I just liked 'em.
But now I've just decided that I got no idea what's going to happen, where this is going... I'm just going to wait and see.

Agreed.
Unless you play solely in a GW (or your gaming group isn't great) chances are that you'll be able to play 8th even if 9th edition turns WHFB into "40k with bows". If you're worried about an army being dropped, don't collect that one, collect one of the main ones, like Elves/Warriors that also have a low start up cost, so even if it all goes to pot when "Zero Hour" comes, you've not spent that much money.7
And the longer you spend worrying about it, the less time you'll have to play 8th as a current edition.

Based on what? It's obvious that GW massively underestimated demand for the books, but without official figures there's no way to know how large the print run actually was.

yeah thats bad advice, especially since 30k isnt meant to even be played with 40k, as some of it is OP even for 40k standards. And even then, some people will just refuse to play you with a 30k army in 40k. So it splinters a niche crowd even further. They are making mistakes, in the desperation of trying to make fantasy relevant again.

GW isn't doing you any favors by even letting customers know this massive change is coming (or at the very least explaining their reasoning for the change), so you shouldn't be doing them any favors by picking up rulebooks that are about to be invalidated, or the "direct-only" Finecrap stock that will probably be dropped (the plastics will probably all be safe).

No company in the right mind would announce to customers that certain items from their range will be invalidated and useless, months out from the date when that will actually be so. That's missing out on months of potential sales. As Lord Cutler Beckett said, it's nothing personal, it's just good business.
