The vast bulk of the Plano stuff is translucent fishing tackle boxes / organizers as pictured above - that's where they made their name. It's very high quality, but it's generally not padded. If you are organzing paint, tools, bitz, and similar "hard" items, Plano is an excellent choice.

The black pistol / gun cases tend to be good value at Wally World, but I'm not sure they're made by Plano. Good choice for large items like Knights and Vehicles.

The problem with Rubbermaid / Plano is that they aren't padded.

Just buy KR Multicase.
(this coming from a committed Chessex man)

I though planos come padded. (guncase) you usually cut out the foam to fit models.

The Plano cases that I've always referred to in my posts have been the Pistol cases, usually the Plano 1401, also known as the "Protector" 4-pistol cases. They come with 3 layers of foam and sometimes one layer is pluck, though sometimes it's solid. Here's my DIY thread for them.

With a retail price of $12-$16 for the 4-pistol cases and as low as $5 for single pistol cases (not Plano) pistol cases are always at least worth a look from gamers who don't mind a bit of DIY.

While pistol cases are very well-priced, the problem is that they are pistol cases:
- If a ninny sees them, they get wound up over "dangerous" firearms.
- If a lowlife sees them, they want to steal them for a quick score.

That's kind of true, but pistol cases are small enough to fit into other bags, much like Chessex cases.

Also, if you buy the Reaper small plastic cases they're just pistol cases with a sticker on one side. Don't put it face down or you're in trouble…

I guess it's just a matter of price vs other considerations.

Yup, tho I rarely saw people bag their pistol cases. They're big enough and have convenient handles.

Their price is good, that's for sure!
