What would you use them for if they had no rules?

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

Pretty sure they had rules once. 2e was a sillier time.

If you wanted to run a scenario themed on The Blues Brothers (The Greens Brothers?). 'Get the band back together' by getting all 3 Rockers to the other board edge, destroying as many cars as possible on the way there!

Bonus victory points can be scored by impromptu Ork-based perfomances of blues classics!

It also wasn't unusual either:

Noise marines had other instruments they could play as well - at least one of them was lead vocal with a giant set of speakers on his back.

Back then they did several of these fluff/fun models. Diarama were done by many of us gamers and featured them. One of my favorites was the old commander sitting on the throne on a ledge. Coming out of a cave below was a giant tarantula made from the actual shed skin of a real tarantula.

BTW, I love the scenerio you gave about getting the band back together. Stuff like that is what the game used to be about. Fun and using your imagination to come up with cool ideas.

My FLGS manager did this. He even made a drum set for one. It is actually hilarious and well done.

You don't even have to be creative to give them groupies. Daemonettes were made for that role.

WOW! that's awesome I'd totally play a Slaaneshi Chaos army if I could find enough noise marines like that.

Yeah, there was a time when Games Workshop actually was a miniatures company, making miniatures just because they looked cool. Extraordinarily easy to do when you have your own staff sculptors and do your own manufacturing, because, relatively speaking, it doesn't cost all that much to whomp up a nifty little model, make a mold, cast them in metal, and start selling them on demand (Reaper's still doing it). Eventually, though, GW decided they were only interested in big returns on a few models, and not small returns on a lot of models, so stopped doing this.

I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

There was a White Dwarf scenario once (I think, may be misremembering or it may be from another source) designed around a large-scale Trukk race. Probably wouldn't be hard to make a chase one, though there aren't exactly police Orks. Arbites Tauroses chasing a Trukk?

Too bad they dont still have the "muscician" models in units like they used to. I also remember the squats with the big speakers. these guys would fit the bill nicely.

Hmmm, more like the game has become more po-faced and has lost some of the critical satire that made the earlier editions more entertaining.

I remember playing a game in Rogue Trader that had the Rokkers and Noise Marines face off against each other. The GM has a table that you rolled against. Whomever performed better got the first turn with a slight Cool boost to the winners' side Cool characteristic. Bonus points were awarded for players singing and indulging in air guitar renditions!

Goff Rockers were awesome! You used to be able to take them in your Warboss's retinue, and they let the orks nearby have two shooting phases at -1 to hit.

More recently, when you had more terrain with rules, I used my Rockers as an ammo dump. The speakers provided cover, and the Goffik Rock got the boys so amped up they could reroll 1s to hit.

I miss the humor of the older editions of 40K. I don't want orks to be a joke race, but I regret that GW doesn't seem to be able to put tongue into cheek any longer. Orks are the last bastion of that in the game, so I love 'em.

While interesting, I prefer the more serious tone of modern 40k. Humor has its place but sometimes it was just plain odd and silly. Some people like that though, and to each their own.

Those rockers looked cool on top of an ork Titan thing I saw on here once.

They had a stage platform on it and they looked like they rocked away while the fighting was going on below.

Made me want to put a marching band on my titan.

There is not this idea.

Oh, those are neat!

I could actually see company musicians working for some of the imperial guard types. Come on, you know Mordians should go marching into battle with a fife and drum corps.
