In IA:8 the Ork Big Trakk is listen as being able to be fielded in Standard ork games but in the 6th ed update on forge world (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/d/Dred_Mob.pdf) there is no mention of this.

So is the Ork Big Trakk apocalypse only or can i field it in standard games?

(Or have i got the rules entirely wrong/mixed up???)

The Big Trakk is a Heavy Support Choice in the Dread Mob List. The Dread Mob list is intended for regular games of 40k. So, yes. However, it is only a Heavy Support Choice in a Dread Mob list and not a Codex: Orks list.

Ok thank you! been rattling my head for ages over this. So my next dumb question is EVERYTHING in dred mob (aside from stuff that say apoc only) is allowed in standard games???

It might help to think of the Dread Mob list as if it existed in Codex: Dread Mob. Anything on the list is acceptable for use in regular games of 40k. NOT everything in IA8 is approved, but everything on the Dread Mob list is.

SOME of the items on the Dread Mob list are also ok to take in a Codex: Orks list. Those are specifically mentioned in the list.

AHHHH ok so if i wanted to take a big trakk id have to put it in an allied detachment?

IIRC, the Big Trakk entry specifies specifically that it can be taken as a Heavy Support choice in a Codex: Orks army or a Dread Mob army. Forge World does this for some units - there's usually a little callout box on the unit entry that lists what army lists can use it and in which FOC slot they belong.

EDIT: Yep, IA:8 page 156 under the Rumbler special rule entry, squadron of 1-3 as a HS choice for Codex: Orks.

But this is where i was lost tho, in the 6th ed update on forge world, this callout is gone

Oh brutal. And Dread Mob isn't even updated for 7th edition either. WHELP.

Just don't bring any to tournaments, I guess?

:/ the only way you can bring them i guess is as an allied detachment to the Orks
