Subject: Best Daemon Troops?

So, I'm having a hard time trying to decide what core troops to take. Currently, I have:
2 Daemon Princes (1 Khorne FMC and 1 Tzeentch FMC)
1 Soulgrinder (probably Nurgle with Phlegm)
6 Flamers
4 Beasts of Nurgle
10 Flesh Hounds
10 Blood letters
10 Plaguebearers
10 Pink Horrors
I like PB and Pink Horrors, and I plan on summoning Blood letters. Is the obvious just more Horrors and summon everything else? I don't see the point in running Blood letters or Plaguebearers other than fluff when you can summon and DS them. Yeah, they become their own unit and free VPs, but only Maelstrom and 1 Eternal War mission cares about VPs.

11 Pink horrors is best because 2 WCs and free units plus can always throw flicker fire if needed.
If you want some punch from your troops then you can go demonettes.

Daemonetes are cool as a summoned unit as they get fleet and +3 to run moves. Excellent when you need a bauble wrap or emidiate pressure. But as core troops, not much can compete with backfield pink horrors.
On the other hand, you can use troops as ds drops on points - in this case all will do.

11? Is that just to get the +1 WC or does that count as 10 Pink Horrors and a Herald?

10 Pink Horrors generate 1 Warp Charge per turn, 11-15 Generate 2 and 16+ Generate 3.
11 is simply the most cost effective way to generate 2 WC points for the cost you are paying.
As stated above, Pink Horrors are amazing and generally your fallback option for summoning everything else your army will need / make use of. I tend to leave my Pink Horrors back field / mid field and use them to summon more Pink Horrors / Daemonettes as the more WC points I get the better off I am at denial against my opponents, and the more Daemonettes I can summon. Usually I wont go over 2 squads in anything lower than 1500 point games for Pink Horrors. All my points are invested in either Soul Grinders / Plague Hulks (Which are better and cost less) were as my Pink Horrors summon more Pink horrors throughout the game or summon me Daemonettes to capture objectives. And try to abuse the fact that you can summon these squads with their respective upgrades. IE their banners for Deepstrike pings and the works.

Is that a FAQ? I thought summoned squads come in barebones. That's what it says for the Warp Storm table, so is the Psychic power different?

Best Daemon troops would either be 11 pink horrors, or if you don't plan to have a large presence in the psychic phase then nurglings would be the next best pick.
Summoned daemonettes, and to a lesser extent bloodletters and PBs, are fine, but when building a list Daemon players are better off spending the majority of their points in HQ, FA, & HS.
No more than 22-33 horrors at most would be optimal imo.

Right on. I thought Nurglings were considered not that great. I play a Tau guy pretty often, so S6 Templates that he can Ignore Cover are threatening.

Touche out of curiosity, has anyone had the summoned Daemons thrown in their face in terms of VPs? It seems like a bit of a dangerous move depending on what mission you're playing

Summoning in Purge is generally a bad idea. Don't do it unless you have a specific task in mind for that unit to accomplish.

They are used as cheap sources of objective secured (just take 2 min units in your primary CAD). This is why you deepstrike them in on the late game to grab or contest with their obsec. Your opponent has to choose between clearing them off or focusing on the real damage dealing threats in your army...like your FMCs, hound blob, screamerstar etc....
I wouldn't ever summon nurglings as units of 10 Pink Horrors or Daemonettes are far superior summoned troop units. And summoned troop units are not objective secured.
Again, if you aren't using Maelstrom then don't bother with the obsec nurglings....

depends on what you want to accomplish. If you just want cheap troops in order to DS them in late game to nab objectives, then nurglings.
if you want fast moving threats, then daemonettes (these can shred elite infantry and light vehicles just under the weight of dice)
if you want to supplement warp charges, then units of 11 pink horrors.
Plaguebearers are pointless since nurglings fill the role better
And bloodletters are like much crappier versions of daemonettes.

Speaking of PH, do they count as ML1 and can take the Primaries and anotther Psychic Power? I know they generate WC according to numbers, but does that affect ML?

They are daemons of Tzeentch, so automatically have flickering fire.
They also generate 1 power, regardless of the number of pink horrors in the squad.
They might also get the primis power of the table they generated their power from, but this is unclear and is argued both ways.

Some people play PH as having 3 powers, some people play them having 2.
It is all down to interpretation of the wording.
PH are always level 1 psykers, though they can generate up to 3 dice per turn.

I agree with 11 pinkies being the best all around choice. I like plaguebearers second, I generally deep strike them all over a they are too slow for anything else. I find that a barebones PB squad, or even tossing in an etherblade character with them, can cause a good chunk of confusion and whatnot into some back fields. They are also great if you want to run GUO, bring a unit of PB with icon/instrument, if they arrive, the GUO immediately comes in too, then if the PB arrive safely, the GUO wont scatter within 6.
