I... actually don't know. Help?

I think the creator of a thread should be able to delete a thread without telling a moderator. It'd be great if someone created a thread they regret, create a flamebait in the OT forum etc.

Nope. Live with your shame.
Or just get a mod to lock it up for you.

I'd be glad if mods would PM you if deleting a thread / post of yours.

While an ok idea on the surface, what it would create is the ability for people to 'driveby' with flamebait or outright rule-breaking threads, see what it stirs up, and then delete. It would, IMO, stir up more chaos than it would be worth.

This. We had discussed such an ability in the forum I used to moderate and also decided against it for this very reason. As mods, we would be able to get the original post and all edits made to it, but as a user, it would be extremely frustrating to see a flamebait thread changed in order to look "normal".

Then you just PM the mod and ask him to close/delete the thread.

Once a thread is created, the OP no longer owns it, which is why sometimes people have asked a mod to close a thread and they will leave it open anyway if there is useful discussion taking place. The point is, once it's posted, it's not "your" thread anymore.

It's a little surprising how many people don't understand this concept.
