i was reading a battle report in which a player received bonuses against his opponent who brought a Super Heavy. Are these bonuses covered in the Escalation book?

There were bonuses in Escalation, but the Escalation rules for including superheavies in your army are no longer current. In normal games you don't get any extra points or other bonuses when your opponent brings a LoW unit, just like you don't get any extra points or other bonuses when your opponent brings a tactical squad. Any bonus for playing against a LoW (or any other type of unit) would be part of the mission rules for that particular game. And you're obviously free to design your own missions that give some kind of bonus if you and your opponent feel that it is a good solution to LoW balance issues.

Correct, but I believe that you only get the bonus when playing escalation missions, not when your opponent simply brings a superheavy as a LoW choice (or as an army in the case of knights), so read thoroughly to be sure.

Yeah, that was an Escalation thing that no longer applies.

There is no reason why you can't still play the Escalation missions though... It could be a way to introduce balance if your gaming group is having issues with Super Heavy Vehicles/Gargantuan Creatures

I played a 3000 point League maelstrom match in which I lost 15-9. I did destroy all three Knights in my opponent's Adamantium Lance and was hoping for a tie or victory from D3 victory points apiece or something. It was my first time facing them, and I know very little about their rules outside of the main rulebook for Super Heavy Walkers.

Even with escalation you wouldn't get extra victory points for imperial knights because they aren't LoW

No idea why GW didn't do the Forge World approach and limit them to 25% for the games total points cost, would solve all these dilemmas fairly well

Because GW doesn't care about balance, and 7th edition is all about removing any rules that stop you from using the models you want to use (and therefore stop you from buying those models).

Yeah, really weird that you don't get bonus points like in Escalation. I felt that made it a tad bit more balanced, but not anymore I guess. >.>

because 7th edition at it's core is designed around a "any goes, do as thou wilt" Philosophy. hence why we have detachments as we have them. and why we have unbound, formations etc. writing a hard code arbitary percentage (in a game that has never balanced around percentages) for a particular type of unit would, good or bad, fly in the phase of the basic Philosophy of 7th ed. now for tournies etc? I'd be all for a percentage limitation on LOWs (I'd ALSO be in favor of percentages for other things to avoid lists like 2 Libs, 2 GK termies, 4 dreadknights. I'm not a tounry player so it'd not impact me but I think anything that dischourages bare bones troops, and elite/heavy deathstar detachments and brings back a more rounded fluffy force is a good thing)
also I think the ling term plan is more aimed around balancing super heavies. the nercon apoc stuff got a serious fix in their codex IIRC
