It is just probably the no forgeworld that takes people aback. I have a great army, but I use either a Fire Raptor or Sicaran, which is part of the space marine list. The rules are even updated on army builder so its not like they are surprise vehicles... and they are official.

That is the only reason I cannot participate :/

Fidel if those models are the only ones of the type you had , you could always proxy them for something reasonable. I`m sure we can figure something out. I have a lot of great forgeworld pieces and they will definitely be in the next event. This is our 2nd event within the last year and I tried to tone everything down to be as inclusive as possible. I hate the idea to lose someone but it`s a little late to change. I`ve got a Dimacheron and Malanthrope just collecting dust...

Gentlemen , been getting a lot of texts and request for info. I would say we should be no less than 12 at a bare minimum and could max out at 18. If anyone hasn`t contacted the store please do so , that way we can keep an accurate tally and not overbook. Been getting a lot of good feedback for the format. After seeing some of the mid maxes , cheese and ally abuse. I feel this type of format can offer people another option for an event and encourage them to come when they normally wouldn't.
Personally for me playing against Adamantium Lance , let`s ally everything our codex is missing with Tau , come the Apocalypse allies etc. is not a lot of fun. I`ve been playing since midway through 5th. I have to say some of the stuff people are bringing to tournaments are brutal. In our area of North Jersey I have seen a sharp decrease in events/tournaments , maybe there`s a reason......
Again this is just me and what I enjoy playing might not be the same as everyone else. If people have fun with those types of events hey that`s great too.

I.E. --- I was running 3 Flyrants Maelstrom missions practicing for the tourney. My buddy brought DE and lit me up , twice in a row. So 3 Flyrants is brutal but can be handled (with a dose of rock/papers/scissors). But some of the lists I saw coming from LVO were just brutal! I think Rawdogger from Frontline had some very good points in his article pertaining to the meta at the LVO. We tried LOW at our last event but the games seemed to denigrate to whoever had the best LOW or the best LOW vs. the other players LOW`s had a big advantage.

Disclaimer: 3 Flyrants can be brutal too

My lvo list is actually legal for this event, which is why I might go. Made some minor tweaks and I'd like to test them out.

How did it do at the LVO? I've ordered mats from those guys. Reccius is a very personable guy. I think they are doing a lot of great things for the hobby.

Their mats are godly. I own 5 of them and love each one. Plus the models slide across them soooo smoothly

I have the 2 city ones. Was going to buy another one but ended up getting 2 boxes of HIve guard . Decisions decisions..

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Changing list-- 3 Flyrant , 2 with electro shock grubs , twin linked Devourer on all , 2 squads of 3 hive guard , 1 Dakka fex , 2 drop spores , 2 crones , now deciding on 3 mucolid and 1 more crone or another drop spore and 30 gaunts.

bo0o0o0o0o. You obviously get more mats! The sound of a slight thudding as dice hit it - tournaments have never been so quiet

Yes , hoping to do well at income tax.... Have you decided to come to the tournament? My wife finished both Estes of Hive Guard last night! Hive fleet approaching.... Now I just have to avoid DE

Nah - I can proxy my fire raptor to a storm raven, but I also am celebrating my wifes birthday that day (the week is harder to celebrate so I just chose sunday )

But we are having a tournament soon at Maplewood Hobby, details coming soon

How did this event go? Who won?

I was hoping to stop by and check it out but couldn't.

P.S. I liked the simple format

It was a very fun event! Luke1705 smacked me down in the final, although we won't talk about how one-sided the maelstrom cards were to gift me a win in the second round.

My opponent was a very good sport despite being dealt a terrible hand (literally and figuratively!).

I'd come back for another one, no question.

For the greater glory of the Zoat Empire!

Hey John glad you guys had a great time! I`m thinking for next one we`ll use the Adepticon Maelstrom cards and play a single CAD. No formations or data slates. Only your CAD from your codex. What do you think? I think this type of format has some potential considering the convoluted state of the game.

Sounds like fun! I don't mind unlimited detachments, Forge World, Superheavies, Stronghold, etc. But I know some folks do, and I can get those things elsewhere, so go for it!

Something that we're trying out for our tournament is making a painting requirement to weed out some of the silliness that comes with more freedom. I think allies and forge world are fine. If you say that unique detachments like leviathan are unable to be combined with a CAD, and that you can only have 1 CAD, then you cut down on some spam. Then again, if the LVO is any evidence, those aren't even the best lists

I can't think of a single dataslate that is really broken (but I am tired and have to be up early ). The "two source" format really I think allows for more freedom than it opens up silly broken combos.

Overall, great event and definitely would swing by the next one. Worth remembering also is that maelstrom doesn't make a balanced meta, nor does it create an unbalanced meta, but it does inherently make some lists good and some bad. Something that the LVO did which I liked was had an eternal war primary (4 pts), maelstrom secondary (3 pts), and then the standard 3 single points (first blood, linebreaker, warlord), and has the maelstrom objectives scored on the bottom of the game turn to offset the importance of first blood. That way, you can't just have a good maelstrom army, or a good eternal war army. You need to compete in all stages of the game. Very balanced also.

I was reading on that as well. That was a good call by you and John to check out the Adepticon cards , I really like them. I could see 2 sources but only if they are battle brothers or the same faction. Seeing Grey Knights and Commissars fighting alongside Xenos and heretics just doesn`t feel right to me....I`m going to schedule another tourney soon I just have to check with the store for dates.

Definitely agree on the fluff perspective of non-battle brothers allies. I kind of like the idea of battle brothers only ally restriction! Of course, it does tilt things a little in favor of Imperial armies.

A little lol? My Tyranids are so sad. Something that many tournaments did to level the playing field for armies that want to ally but can't due to restrictions like that is allow any army to self-ally.
