I recently played a game in which my carnifexes destroyed a transport with their twin linked devourers, and the crew was forced to disembark. My opponent argued I could not assault the disembarked crew because I fired my assault weapons at the vehicle, not the crew. Is this correct, or could I assault the crew directly afterwards?

It's pretty cut and dry, you're 100% allowed to.

-edit-

Straight from the BRB

"If a Transport is destroyed by a shooting attack, any unit that shot it that turn can, if
allowed, charge the now disembarked passengers."

Under "effect of damage on passengers" in the Transports section

I must have missed that. Thanks!

Just note that a unit is not allowed to shoot the newly disembarked passengers if they had already shot at the transport. Like say a Lascannon in a Tactical Squad pops open a transport, you can't then fire all your Bolters at the disembarked passengers, unless you have permission to shoot at different targets (Split Fire or something).

Not even then. Split fire and similar abilities require you to declare the targets for all of your shooting simultaneously, so the passengers won't be on the table and a legal target when you select the transport.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

This is not the case, as the unit inside the transport was not a valid target when you would've had to select who you were shooting at.

Also, units that shot and failed to destroy the transport would not be allowed to charge the dismounted unit.

That was the case in previous editions, and I didn't read the rules quote. I'll have to double check my transport section when I get home.

I wish we'd go back to the old rules where vehicles actually did have crew. I really liked that.

You mean like in 2nd edition, where the Rhino's crew of two Space Marines were worth more points than the rhino itself?

Yes... I'd start taking Rhinos again if 2 marines with only a bolt pistol had a chance to hop out and fight when it went down... so fun

I am ok with that, but only if when an ork vehicle pops 1-3 orks get out and a small squad of gretchin like 5-10 :-P god knows the infest everything else in the ork universe.

I actually have to go buy some demon models at some point because I am going to use Demonology on my Weirdboy and hope to get the summoning powers :-PI Just want a bloodthirster to pop out of my weirdboy I would just stop the game and laugh my ass off.
