I have a problem in POP in the late game iw as always on negative funds, is this normal?
I actualy save scummed to try a new approach.
can an independent kingdom survive? ie. 1 taken castle for a non aligned fighter?

Are there any mods anyone suggests for single player?
I'm not much interested in multi, apart from maybe line infantry games, that sounds hilarious ( i expect i would always be firing early and out of time)
I've seen the japanese one - looks good, is there a high fantasy one? - orcs ect?

My favourite thing in M&BW POP is watching my foot troops drag down a knight...no wait..maybe it's riding round clubbing archers with my death sabre ( my fave weapon as it has no thrust- i cannot tell you how much thrust frustrates me) ....nope definitely seeing my infantry horde murder a knight.

I'm soo happy with my merc warband atm, out of 120 guys i have 18 huscarls ( hands down the cheapest, most effective unit in my book), with another 33 on the way from armoured axemen. I think i could write an ode to my love of their throwing axe .
in short awesome game, my 120 pound most things into submission.
I want to go empire fore my kingdom so i think i'll pound sarleon till they are almost dead then switch to them and try and get empire cities. No idea if this is viable or not

Restarted after Ravenstern got into a fight with both the Sarleons and Fierfields, currently got about 3/4 of our lords either captured or defecting, I'm getting taken out of comission by way of sustaining casualties.

In a constant deficit, and I need either a town cap or a castle cap, just annoying

I started a game a few days ago, something to power me through a three day weekend. Currently I am about 75 days in, bebopping around as a mercenary for the Empire. They are kind of a bunch of pricks, but I wanted to try my hand at a different style of playing. Since I have about 700 hours into the game I have few compunctions about cheating to set up a scenario I like.

In this playthrough I am playing as Alexios Komnenos, a lord from the Old Empire. After fighting the ascension of the Snake Cult for years, I was forced to flee to Pendor. Arriving with a few loyal retainers and a small band of soldiers, I set about earning the trust of the Empire; feckless jerks that they are, they are at least an echo of the glory of the Old Empire.

Basically I leveled myself up to 40, got three companions who I also leveled to 40 or so - a medic/ engineer, a war leader, and a bodyguard, and a couple dozen upgraded mercenaries, with enough of a nest egg to pay them for a few months. Reasonably well geared. The first month and a half or so was super fun, just trying to make ends meet and get some respect. Now I have my revenue streams mostly sorted out, and I've been more or less guarding our entire northern border against Sarleon incursions, alongside like two other lords who I've built up a pretty solid relationship with. About half of my initial band of followers have died, but I've replaced them with larger numbers of crappier troops. The old circle around behind the enemy with hero adventurers tactic has won me a lot of battles, but I've been playing as a general and not really getting stuck in myself. It's nice that I have a few friends now so I can co-opt their troops to do most of the frontal assault stuff, although one of them was recently captured. The rest of the Empire has been making a bit of progress, took Haringoth castle at least. I may have to break down and pledge my loyalty soon, now that i have tanneries in two cities I think I can take the financial hit. I want to start building up a castle or something, maybe look at founding a Knight Chapter.

The Noldor are pains in the ass, I've been moving in to raid towns around Laria a couple times and been forced to just turn around and run.

So, Sareleon took Evansolde castle after I perked up, The Feildsolves sieged Ravensbrook and Pointsburg but packed up with both, had enough troops to do it as well.

I've got about 4.8K of wages Per month, needing about half that again to break even, probably will head to the empire to build one or two properties to break even. Having immense trouble with nobles getting captured.

If a major city goes pear shaped, I probably will end up defecting to Fjorldeon.

PoP is a good mod.

I'm currently running my character as the Emperor's Executioner. I've allied myself, secretly, with the Noldor, am geared to the teeth with their equipment and have a party of several elite companions also geared to the teeth.

On top of this, I have an elite party of legionnaires who serve a my personal bodyguards when not at war.

I don't control a castle yet, as it's not fitting for a commoner such as myself. Maybe once I prove myself to my king.

PoP (Prophecy of Pendor) is my preferred mod. It can be hard to keep an elite force paid for, as those better troops cost more to maintain. Learning the good trade routes is one way to earn money. Another is to invest in your own businesses in each city (large costs upfront, but will pay for themselves longterm). If you want to go the route of creating your own kingdom, you have to build up your "Right to Rule." Best way to do that is to send your companions out to gather support (one at a time, takes a couple weeks to do it). Without enough Right to Rule, the other nations will freely declare war on you to remove the "upstart."

Winning tournaments (and gambling on yourself to win them) is another way to make money.

Update on this. I have ascended to the position of Grandmaster of the Immortals(My own army is consisting of ~140 Immortals atm), conquered all of Sarleon almost singlehandedly, worked with my fellow lords to conquer The D'Shar, and am now conquering The Ravenstern in the name of the Emperor. I have almost eliminated the Snake Cult, and shall soon start working on eliminating the Mystmountain Raiders.

With the help of a few sympathetic Lords I managed to take Laria and the castle near it for the Empire. I was rewarded with the city and have now started my own Knightly Order.

My Knights are Companion Cataphracts and my Sergeants are my Varangian Guardsmen. They still suck pretty hard.

After building up my forces and holding back a few incursion from Sarleon, I gathered up a sizable war party and took another castle and Sarleon the city. I wasn't sure if I wanted the city for myself - I tried to turn down the honor - because of it's forward, centralized location. But the Imperator saw fit to bestow it on me regardless.

So I stationed most of my troops in Laria to keep it safe, and went on a limited recruitment drive, right around the time Ravenstern and D'Shar both declared war on the Empire.

So I have a bunch of half trained Imperials, a couple dozen Adventurer Heroes, and some miscellaneous mercenaries trying to hold onto Sarleon the City while the rest of the Empire is apparently getting it's ass kicked. We had the Kingdom of Sarleon on the ropes - another month or two and we probably would have taken most of their stuff, but D'Shar and Ravenstern are fresh. Ravenstern has just besieged Haringoth Castle, which is directly north of Sarleon - and there have been incursions around Laria, although my crony Lord who got the castle up there seems to be driving them off. A large force could take his castle and then ravage the countryside, which is what I'm afraid of. They could even conceivably take Laria if they hit it with the king and 3-4 powerful lords. I can't really leave the Sarleon area since I am literally it as far as Imperial forces. I've even seen some D'Shar prowling around to the south. I'm assuming that is where the balance of our lords are, dealing with the D'Shar threat to Janos.

Dark times.

On my first POP play through my order was the Regretful Lemmings with knights being Cliff Jumpers, and sargeants being Fearful Lemmings and boy did they live up to their name. The fearful lemmings were quite lethal in seiges as their 2nd upgrade was a kick arse 1 hander sword, which meant they inflicted casualties but suffered them fast too.

I've been playing Floris for some time now, and I got a Zweihander. It has a reach of 160. And you can use it on horseback.

Time to see just how many castles I sack.

So, an amazing reversal of fortunes. I managed to catch a Singalian slaver party - I lost about five soldier and managed to free 45 or so, including some high level guys like Empire Knights. I also founded a chapter of Immortals in Sarleon and got ten or so of them, which took all of my available capital. With just about my max number of guys - a hair over two hundred, I rode up to see what was going on around Haringoth. Seven freaking lords, all with over a hundred guys, two with 180 plus. So I tried riding around and seeing if I could split them up. I could bait all but the besieging Lord away and then outrun them with my 10 pathfinding, but as soon as we got too far they turned back. Then, I ran into The Three Seers, an 1100 plus strong army of Heretics roaming around Avendor.

I lured them to Haringoth, at which point the Raverstern Lords scattered in every direction. I was able to chase down and defeat four of them, and the Heretics got another one. Even better, I captured three of the four and hopefully their ransoms will help a lot with my cash situation. Plus, I just got the notification that The Empire has taken Tuldar Fortress, so it looks like they are on the offensive against the D'Shar.

I tried doing a similar thing but that was just to get close to a castle, i didnt think to drag my 2 big random enemy stacks all the way in (to be honest after dragging 1200 enemies around i was getting a wee bit nervous, my main aim was to see if i could transplant the stacks from my territory to enemy territory- sadly you can't :( ). Nice strategy. How the hell do you get 10 pathfinding the highest I have managed is 7.

In my current play through i tried to make an independent kingdom as early as i could, it may have been a mistake as i can only have 170 troops, the closest cities i take have over 700. Any other castle/cities and I'm starting a war with new factions.

So yeah, now recruited the elf adventurer, fought off a combine D'shar and Sarleon invasion, and now am headed to war with the Fiefinguilds, They have been utterly trashed, about 3/4 of their lords are captured, and they are at war with D'shar

I've pretty much been instrumental in defending the realm, now having 105 troops, about half being mounted. Still trying to get enough troops to take out either the griffinswords or the heretics.

So, in the playthrough of Matthias, currently hailed as "The Defender." I have been solidly defending the Empire from The Fierdsvain. With my 147 Immortals, I have pushed the entire Empire into a perfect Ambush. It was beautiful. They ran from me, into a weak ally, who was waiting in front of the rest of the Empire. My Immortals were the rock that parted the wave of Huscarls. Through my ingenious tactics of organising a countercharge, and peppering them with arrows, whilst we waited, we broke the back of the Fierdsvain in a single stroke.

As a result of my tactical and physical prowess, the Emperor himself deemed fit to give me the fortress overlooking a border with the Fierdsvain and Ravenstern Empires, making me the first line of defense.

I'm not sure if it helps but i always barney into the towerit's the first thing i do after i set up the archers. It may not help but as soon as i jump into it it starts moving slowly, hopefully meaning that instead of having 4 guys move the tower i now have 5 ( meaning arrow fire is less effective at slowing the tower.).

Oh, I cheated like a bastard for that ten pathfinding. I started myself at level 40 with three strong and well equipped companions and a reasonable sized group of guys. I put everything into making my guy a commander so I started with 30 Int, 10 in pathfinding, tactics, and training. But in a straight fight I go down like a chump if anyone gets a solid hit on me. I can ride people down with a lance, or shoot with my light crossbow, but I never get stuck in. In sieges I just sit at the bottom of the ladder or tower and let my guys go to town. Most of my battles are me arranging my soldiers then waiting for the right time to flank with my cavalry before I run away and hide with my small bodyguard force.

i think if i cheated it would just be to get some starting cash, as that would save me spending hours in the arena which is always handy for weapon skills and xp.

CAn anyone give me tips on late game money, atm i'm running on about -10000 gold every week which means I have to be at war and I have to capture enemy lords for ransom, it's getting hard as i have about 10 lords vs seemingly 30 or 40.
I've started trimming my castle troops down ( i discovered 34 knight of the clarion call in one castle so that may have had something to do with my money issues). I have 3 cities and about 2 castles left to claim, the trouble is if i get one that needs a seige tower the enemy lords dogpile me and chase me down with 30 troop warbands. in one fleeing i went from 250 troops down to 30 (active) before i got away.

STill i suppose that I could manage those 3 cities if i can get 450 troops and one or 2 lords helping me.

Btw i love knighthood orders- i have access to 4, windriders, my lemmings, knights of the ebon gauntlet and knights of the clarion call.

So, after a bit of work, I finally turned the tide. Got a castle and another village given to me. Castle was D'shar, and Village is Sarleon. now working on trying to get qualis gems.

Also, the elf follower is devastating in sieges. Just destroys the opponents.

lethaldiran is just lethal, i'm a big fan of diev wodenson as well, and alyssa.
I only got 3 qualis gems all game :( , i think i'll have to hunt them next play through.

So after a bit more gaming, its peace on all fronts for the time being, My cash is stable (gaining) and just working on improvements like renderers and messenger posts etc. Prisoner tower for the castle. Had quite a few escapees.

I converted one of the "D'shar" turned Sarleon lords as well, and he now kips in my castle, giving me prisoners to ransom.

So, my pet lord started giving me Noldor Nobles and archers, which I promptly freed. The fieldsven declared war, took back Knudarr castle and my second village, but I got elected Marshall, and have taken Ironoak castle and Windholme. The Sarleons are getting the worst of the Feildsven.

Anyone have any advice for good, non-fantasy Warband mods? I've already got Floris and the Hundred Years War mods.

So now, empire decided to declare on us, I got my settlement raided, but between lord captures, I'm hitting both sides hard. The Noldar have been raiding Laria (empires conquest), and one of the other lords took Ethos after I resigned as marshal, so I didn't need to recruit a lot.

Sarleon is focussed on the Fieldsven, and Empire is focussing on Ravenstern. I'm going to focus very strongly on defense in the next year,

Depends on your right to rule stat. Check reports. It's under there. You have to have a certain number before you get considered an actual ruler.

I don't know if it counts as non fantasy but a clash of kings is a floris extension mod. It's in George R R Martins world and the map is HUGE, seriously HUUUUUUGE. The only downside is you have to trundle around the towns looking for the guildmasters in towns before you can access them, the upside is those towns are pretty well done.

Is it bigger then Anno Domini? I just got it and have immediately fallen in love with the mod, 42 bloody factions across an entire continent.
