Greetings !

Long time lurker, first time poster here ! I recently started playing in a local group, and they play competitive 1000 points games. They are planning to expand to 1500 points or higher (at which i'm more comfortable) but I don't have a lot of experience with this points level with CSM.

Currently, i'm planning to run this list:

HQ
Lord
MoN, Bike, Sigil of corruption, lightning claw, power fist

troops

cultists 10x
10x autoguns

cultists 10x

FA

Chaos Bikers 4x
MoN, 2x melta, VotLW, Melta bomb

Spawn 5x
MoN

HS

Maulerfiend

Maulerfiend

Obliterators 2x
MoN

I can also trade out one maulerfiend and melta bomb on the biker champ for a vindicator with siege shield, as I'm not used to field maulers and don't yet know what to use them against, other than other vehicles.
I'm also considering more ranged style lists, but I'd also like to see what you guys can come up with!

List looks competitive for 1000 pts.

You want to put this in the army list forum.

Yep, it's the cookie cutter 'competitive 1000pt' list for Chaos. Same as every other one. Make sure your Cultists bubble wrap the Obliterators and have fun zooming around.

Your Maulerfiends really are just meant to kill other vehicles. Because they're as durable as a Dreadnaught, which is to say not very durable, they come in the pair so that you're less likely to lose that source of anti-tank as they charge forward with wild abandon. Another common practice is to run Spawns with them (if your Lord is with the bikes that is) and the Spawns intercept tarpit units. Maulerfiends are also really bad at breaking out of tarpits alone.

It's not a bad idea to have a spare Spawn on its own to do that job either. Treat it as a sacrificial pawn to tarpit a tarpit unit long enough for the Maulerfiends to scootch on by. Not common because it can give away 1st blood pretty easily, but you're after Objectives, not outright kills.

IMO you're better off swapping the Obliterators for more SPAWWWNNNN.

Rush lists should really emphasize the RUSH!!!!!

Another option is to swap the Oblits for a Bike Sorcerer and fish for either Invisibility (on Telepathy) or Iron Arm on Biomancy. Iron Arm + Force Weapon is pretty hideous. A level 3 Bike Sorcerer with all of the doodads will cost you ~170 so dropping the Autoguns will get you most of the way there.

Blight grenades are worth the 5 points on your lord.

why ? the lord already has grenades

also, for the second list, I took VotLW from the bikers and an autogun from the cultists for a combibolter for the Vindicator, in case of a weapon destroyed

Have you seen what Blight Grenades do? They're amazing. And amazingly annoying for Blood Angel players like me (or any assault unit with Rage). Frag and Krak are offensive, but Blight is defensive. And when the key part of your list is speed, to get to Objectives or steal them by ending your turn outside of combat where the enemy potentially is waiting or inbound, they can keep your fighters alive.

Does the lightning claw shred stack with the power fist? I never thought of combining the two if that's the case.

If anything, I'd split the spawn into two groups to cap casualties from massed fire.

No. Having a fist and claws means that against MEQ you use the claws with Shred and Attack at Initiative but against 2+ you have the fist if you need it. No matter what though you have the Specialist Weapon +1 Attack bonus though. You can only use one weapon per fight, but it lets you pick what one.
