I'm playing tank heavy ig with 2 vendettas. I'm trying to figure out what to put in the planes. I've tried the special wep squads, but haven't really been feeling the blob of troops I also have to take.
So what's good to put in there? Enginseer, ccs, mt scions, ally some marines? I could use some good suggestions.

Inquisition allies might be a nice choice, as they don't have to differ visually all that much from the rest of your force.
You could get 3 meltagun acolytes and a psyker in there for a little over 50 points.

Well, if you don't want to take platoons, that cuts out a couple of the usual suspects. No PCS with flamers or special weapons with demo charges...a CCS with melta or plasma can still do quite a bit of damage, but they're an expensive suicide unit without support - which you could do, you'll just need to take some Scions to back them up.
I've never understood putting Scions/Stormtroopers in planes, really. I mean, they'll come in on the same reserve roll, but I'm not sure that's worth losing the tactical flexibility of deep striking wherever you need to.

CCS with all flamers.
PCS with 4melta/plasma and an astropath for psychic shriek.
SWS with democharges.

Aren't acolytes BS3? Melta on them is not that good.

Inquisition could be handy. I'd thought about the hq command squad for one plane (pask is in the other hq slot). Maybe pcs one plane and some Inquisition in the other.

They are also dirt cheap and can have 3 special weapons per squad.
3 melta shots for 42 points? That's worth it in my books.

Agreed. In comparison, tau usually runs suicide melta in the shape of a solo crisis suit with a Twin-linked + single fusion blaster at bs3 for 57 points and consider it cheap. Sure, you could call it a more durable platform with t4 and 3+ save, but it's suicide non the less. Three henchmen with special weapons is a really good unit for the cost.

Thanks all, looks like inquisition may be what I'm looking for. Probably try flamer servitors with an incenerator inquisitor.

Melta Dominions. Pop their act of faith for ignores cover when they come down and say goodbye to pretty much whatever you point them at.

Yeah, Sister of Battle Fast Attack Unit. Though to be honest, by the time you pay a HQ and Troop tax for an Allied Detachment you'll be much better off using a spare Company Command Squad kitted out with 4 melta. They will do exactly the same job, using the "Fire on my target!" Order to give themselves Ignores Cover, for almost exactly the same price as a Dominion Squad. The only thing you're missing out on is a 3+/6++ save (which is probably not that critical on a unit you're expecting to die anyway).
If you're taking Sisters anyway, then definitely go for some Dominions in the Vendetta. Or Unbound.

You could do something unexpected and run a mellee-oriented unit in there. Something like a bunch of crusaders + deathcults/arco flagellant + priest. Or an inquisitorial psycher to summon nasty daemons in the opponent's backlines.

I've stuck a 5-man Tactical Marine squad in them before, just as one of those hold an objective and no not much else squads. Seemed to work out okay for me, as they are more durable than a small Guardsmen squad. Heck you could even put a cheap SM HQ choice with them if you kept it to 6 men total.
