Apologies if this has already been reported, couldn't find anything from a search.

On the new releases page of the GW website there is a softback Astra Militarum Codex. Think this is the first since they went to all hardback.

No, it hasn't been reported yet Thank you. There are some other softcover re-releases but this should be a first for an english codex book. The german Eldar codex was replaced by a softcover recently, so were some WFB books like Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts. The campaign books for Shield of Baal and End Times are also available as softcover. As long as they cannot be bought with a discount - I havent found an indy shop that sells softcover army books so far - I don't think the softcovers which cost 33 EUR are better than the hardcovers for 34 EUR with a discount.

Link? I can't find anything like that. Do you mean the small format codex?

On the Canadian and US sites we still just have the hard covers.

Is the price back to like they were before they went hardcover, or is their a old/new coke thing going on?

Hmm interesting. So it costs as much as the small format hardcover books so in the US it should be $41.

Only this Tomb Kings softcover is available on the US store http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Warhammer-Tomb-Kings

Be careful with the price, there are two different price bands for softcover WFB army books

Edit: 41$ sounds right

Is there not a single ongoing GW news thread? There's like a dozen GW related news articles here while all the other guys have to stick all their stuff in a single thread.. just seems kinda strange..

Other stuff is much more limited, covering fewer products, and with fewer people interested. If other lines were as large as GW's, I've nary a doubt they'd have multiple threads about them. But when you're talking about 3+ product lines, covering hundreds of products, by the top dog in the miniwargaming arena, it helps to break it all up by topic, as opposed to piling everything into a thread that would grow by 15+ pages a day.

I make no claims to insider knowledge of the working of Dakka, but that's how it would appear.

Tl;dr it keeps the threads readable, and cuts down on outside noise

I might have to get this, it's only 25% more than the last one or £2 more after 20% discount.

Here's hoping it has any errata in it that may have come out.

I guess that makes sense.. they tend to draw a lot more "discussion" for sure.. and they do indeed feature quite a deal more releases than a lot of other companies.

Is there an online shop in the UK selling it? I have not found it listed at the likes of Element Games or Wayland so far. Hopefully it is not limited to the GW Webshop - there is no symbol there for mail-order only

£25 in the uk. That's a little cheaper than the hardback version, isn't it?

I'm still hoping that one day they'll release the physical codices with a download code for the digital version.

It would depend on when the book was printed/when the errata was published.

They couldn't be arsed to do that for any of the US customers who bought the Harlequin book and have it stuck in shipping because of a dock worker's strike, so I wouldn't ever expect it.

It may be worth noting that the regular sized hardback appears to no longer be on the site. Maybe once they run out of hardbacks they're switching to soft cover?

So the soft covers are 16% cheaper.

I'd be happy enough with soft cover black and white if it ended up 30% cheaper, lol.

When you consider that a "wow, new 40k codex!" thread will amass several pages per day all by itself, it's not really practical to keep them together. There's only 1 FW thread which is manageable, but there's too much interest in 40k and even WHFB to really combine them.

Please excuse the necro.

Looking at the GW site

seems there's a few more softback editions now available ?

both Tau books -- codex and supplement are softback.

Haemonculus covens is softback too.

Both guard books as well ...?

They can keep all of it. I don't play in tournaments or anywhere other than my garage.. and I'm happy to play old stuff rather than forking out what they're asking for this. It's bonkers.

It's funny that when they went to hardback, the decided that hardback was worth like double the codex price, but now they're going back to soft back its only worth £5...

Just noticed that the Tau codex and the Damocles supplement are both no longer available in Australia, but the farsight supplement is still available. I wonder what this means for Tau though? Possible new codex on the horizon?

It's a good move, but the GW softbacks still cost the same as hardbacks from other companies.

I miss the 3rd edition days of £8 for a codex.
