So MCs getting joined is no longer allowed... But Ovesa is an IC and can join units. But still an MC...

Can Ovessa join a buff commander unit that joined a unit of crisis suits? Where can I find the justification for this in the rule book? I'm confused at the legality of his. Threads I've read point to is legal... But I want to be certain.

Ovessa isn't being joined, she's joining them

It's the order in who joins who that gets around it

Yes, an MC IC can join a unit with no MCs in it, as joining is not the same as being joined.

If anyone tries to claim that the joined unit is also joining the MC, ask them to show where the unit joined has this permission. They do not, so cannot show this.

I forgot our tournament and rules follow the ITC stuff and this is in the FAQ. Buddy pointed it out and I guess that's why O'Vesa can't join. Thanks guys.

● O’Vesa may join units like a normal Independent Character. However, other Independent Characters cannot be joined to a unit containing O’Vesa. If a unit already contains another Independent Character, this effectively prevents O’vesa from joining that unit.

Just to clarify for anyone reading... this is not an official FAQ. This is effectively a house rule. From a Rules as Written standpoint, O'Vesa can join units containing other ICs with the normal restriction that the unit she's joining can't contain Monstrous Creatures or Vehicles.

Tournaments can do whatever they feel like, but that doesn't make it RaW.

Yeah, it's always going to depend on your local community. I find the same people who complain about O'Vesa joining a unit with other ICs already in it are the same people who have no problem bringing an Adamantine Lance Formation (3 Imperial Knights) to a 1500 point game.

This is an odd situation. RaW is crystal clear and without ambiguity. I still think the underlying issue is that a subset of players don't understand how Joining works. Joining is a one way street. It is an action intentionally performed by an IC. The rules don't support a scenario where two ICs "Join each other". One ALWAYS Joins the other.

RaI, while ALWAYS unknowable short of a conversation with the author, also seems pretty clear. O'Vesa is a close personal friend of O'Shovah and a de facto member of his Bodyguard Team. All of the other "Bodyguards" are ICs and the intention seems to be that you can take them all together as one big unti. Why should one member not be able to Join up? The rules allow it and the background seems to validate it.
