Thank you for your kind words and it's very humbling to be the inspiration for someone. Absolutely go for it, I find it a very rewarding project. To be honest it'd probably be easier if you asked about any specific parts/models you had interest in, I have cherry picked things from all over the place and listing my sources would take forever! The main SM kits are always the start point, though; i.e. Tactical, Sternguard, Vanguard and Assault.

Why do some have the arm painted and some just the shoulder pad? Well painted, but far too many colours for me on deathwatch

In all the fluff I have read about the Deathwatch the armor is no painted solid black. A large majority of it is. The is still some plates that keep the color of the parent chapter. The reasons for this is if they paint the armor solid black the machine spirit may end up feeling dishonored and rebel against the wielder.

I think he meant why were two of the arms that should be silver black. To which the answer was: I forgot the arm was meant to be silver and, having taken the trouble to highlight the black, didn't want to do them over. Couldn;t see it being a massive deal.

Thank you, hes a favourite of mine, too. First time I tried yellow lenses and it worked really nicely.

Cheers. I don't actually play anymore, but, if I had to run them in game, I'd do it as Sternguard for sure. No point giving them fancy bolters for nothing.

Oh, well thank you very much. It's taken me about four years to get to this point. I should have another one due by month's end as I'm entering one of the Dakka P&M forum's montly challenge.

He's going to be the additional crewman for a quad heavy bolter rapier (hopefully get a chance to prep, if not start, that over the holidays), hence his weapon having an integrated laser sight slightly more substantial than you might otherwise expect and the plethora of lenses/targetters everywhere.

Man I am impressed as hell!

These marines feel so full of individual character, they are ripe with possibilities for stories.

At first I thought the painting was too simple, then I just saw how this simplicity created such cleanliness, it's like the sashimi of painting Some things looked weird like the blue drop on the Blood Angel, but then I started to dig it. When I saw the white lizard on the Salamander I laughed, "that's so sockwithaticket", it was very cool. I feel the black armor makes their characteristics more pronounced in the same sashimi way as the style so you see that blue cord or red cord or leather sheath (brilliant btw) better.

I, like you, don't play anymore so I am going to get some Imperial Knights and paint up as a freeblades/inquisitorial scheme (a band of freeblades working for an inquisitor). I was toying with the idea of getting some space marines to sprinkle around them on the display shelf. I think after seeing this I might have to, this project of yours is an absolute beaut!

You have some amazing blending techniques. I almost feel like the blacks aren't showing as gracefully on camera as they would in real life.

Really cool stuff man, keep it up.

I love these, the crisp black on all of them is just kick ass, but I particularly love the sheath on the newbie, and the flames & seals on the salamander. Makes me want to paint space marines!

Wow, I wasn't expecting so much love a full 2 months after my last post. It's almost like there's something on the way drawing attention to the Deathwatch...

Okuma - thank you very much for such effusive praise! You've hit the nail on the head, in terms of what I like to do stylistically. The black armour is like the background for all the little details, I like those to draw the attention. Your project sounds awesome, I'd very much like to see that.

Valkyrie - Thanks. Presumably you mean like the ones on the Space Wolf, Mortifactor and Hawk Lord? The simple answer is 3rd party companies. The ammo drum for the Space Wolf's bolter is from Anvil Industries, it's one of 3 ammo types you get with their Lance Carbine and that weapon is what the Hawk Lord is sporting. The Mortifactor has a Thunder Gun from Kromlech

TheCrusaderSmurf - um, I'm not sure if that's really a part of my anatomy that needs to be prepped for incoming rules, but thanks for the heads up. I think...

DutchWinsAll - Cheers, man. That's something I've been trying to bring into my work more. It is a very subtle highlight on the black, but t is a bit more obvious in reality, I tend to find that lighting it to look right for photos tends to make everything else look too bright

Niatona - thanks a lot. The Salamander is a favourite of mine, got to try a lot of different things out on him.

Better safe than sorry sockwithaticket

My question to TheCrusadeSmurf is whether the preparation should be entry or exit related. Are we talking Immodium and a high fiber diet or Tactical Dreadnought underpants?

On Deathwatch related note, now that Deathwatch Overkill has come out, will you be adding your own jump pack, termie and biker to your ranks for an alternate take on the kill team?

yokoyomama - thank you very much

Okuma - The next thing on my list for my Dathwatch is actually a Quad Heavy Bolter Rapier, the Hawk Lord is one of the crew members. At some point I do plan on adding some Vanguard Veterans, but I've not really got any intention of doing Bikes or Terminators. Not even to do my own reworking of the DW:O kill team. I am planning on getting my hands on Cassius and the Imperial Fist from that set and reappropriating them though. Maybe the Ultramarine, too.

Stormwall - thanks, I have really tried to imbue them with some rather than simply be more faceless marines.

Feindus Maximus - cheers.

The Emperor's Wrath, Quad-Heavy Bolter Rapier preserved from the days of the Great Crusade. It's provenance prior to being awarded to the Segementum Pacificus Watch Station is unknown. For the last two centuries, an unprecedented period of service, Fists Examplar veteran Niels Goosen has tended to the relic machine lovingly, ensuring that it is as ready for war now as in the days when Primarchs led their chapters to battle and operates it with consummate skill.

Your models came out great and are a inspiration for me as I am working on a Deathwatch force myself. I can only hope to reach a level of painting that you already seem to have down solidly. Your shoulderpads are clean and crisp and you have loads of interesting bits to break up the solid black for each marine.

I love them. I also dig the fact that you kept the bling to a bare, in most instances, nothing. They look really sharp.

I would love to see a Contemptor with your DW painting applied.

Good job!

New Recruit - Raptor

No doubt we'll be seeing lots of these guys after the Deathwatch Veterans release, but hopefully mine stands out a little as it's got the correct insignia rather than the one on the pad in the kit (thank you 3rd party). As befits a marine from a Chapter of legendary marksmen he has a Stalker Bolter (Anvil Industry's 'Negotiator' Rifle) and plenty of appropriate gear on his person: 2 alternate ammo clips, a range of individual bullets with unique, exotic poisons (zoom in on the second pic a bit), a bipod, additional visual tracker on his pack and punch dagger (seems very much like the sort of thing a Raptor would have). With his pose I wanted him to look like he'd just made a shot (note the shell casing on the floor) and is scanning for a new target.

airinhere - well thank you very much, that's really flattering, glad you like 'em. All the random bits and bobs are there to keep me interested in painting as much as anything! Black and silver aren;t the most absorbing things to deal with even if the final result comes out well. Plus marines without extra doodads just don't look right to me. I don't want them to be literally weighed down by stuff, but all the best artwork shows them with a bunch of gear on their belts and a fair few purity seals and other decorations, so mine need some too.

combat engineer - Cheers, man. In addition to what I wrote above, I like detailing marines, but I still want them to look functional so they can't be completely covered in stuff.that serves no function. No plans for a Contemptor I'm afraid, I think I might be one of the only people on the planet who doesn't like them. However, I do have a Grey Knights Mk. IV Dreadnought that was going to be an Ironclad (before DW actually got their own codex) and a MK. IV Dread that's ear-marked to be a Heavy Bolter Mortis Dread (because what saya Xenos killers more than 4 heavy boters?)

Cheers, make sure you pop yours up when you're done. Can never have enough DW goodness.

To be honest I can't be 100% on the bases as I buy them from all over if I see some I like and stick them in a bag to delve into as required. However, the ones on the last few marines would either be Dragon Forge 32mm concrete rubble or Secret Weapon 32mm urban streets.
