Hello everybody,

I have been painting my IG for a little while now. I follow a more traditional color scheme (potentially subject to change), but I have given my models a bit of a spin by using American WWII insignia. Additionally, I focus on trying to give every individual model special attention and details, giving even individual guardsmen with lasguns intrinsic value greater than a measly 5 points on the table. I hope that my execution of my painting is of merit in your eyes, my readers. Here's what I have painted completely, finished, nothing left to do:
-38 Guardsmen
-3 Heavy Weapon Teams
-Sentinel (ambiguous enough to be armored or scout)
-Hellhound
-Firestorm Redoubt Fortification
-3 Bullgryns (I forgot these for this list!)

Models that are nearly done at time of writing, and what's left to do for each:
-LRBT (Camo splotches, eyes on commander)
-Chimera (Camo splotches)
-"Vendetta" (Camo splotches, landing gear, wing-mounted lascannon bits?)

Models not yet started:
-22 Guardsmen
-3 Heavy Weapon Teams

And, without further ado, here are some of my completed works for you to see.
Spoiler:

Sentinel:

Hellhound:

Heavy Weapons Teams:

All feedback, compliments and criticisms are welcomed. Please share your opinions with me. I plan on adding more images to this thread every once in a while.

Its a good start, better than when I did. Like said, mold lines and I feel like they need a good wash.

What do you think would need a wash, and what color? I currently only have one (old Citadel name is Devlan Mud) that I always use on guardsman skin and cloth. I very much agree that it improves those portions of the model vastly.

I'd use a flesh wash on skin as opposed to devlan mud tbh. I'd asks probably use a sepia wash on the cloth & the devlan mud on the armor. Painting tanks by hand is where it really becomes obvious when you need to thin your paints. Those large, flat surfaces show every brush stroke & point where there was too much paint on the brush. Ideally you should need 2-3 coats per color to get coverage for the color under it. Depending on your paints you might try mixing 50/50 with a solution of 3/1 water/mixing medium (I use pledge with future shine). Ask for a consistency of about skim milk. Same goes for your washes. Always cut them with a flow aid like the above because it helps them go where they're most needed rather than pooling where you put them.

Looks good!
Anyone know how tall Cadians are?
I know that space marines are 7 feet, but Cadians, since they are not modified, are 5.5-6?

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

About time for an update, nearly forgot this thread

The hellhound, as my first tank, has definitely been a learning experience, and I will make sure to thin my paints, especially if I haven't painted for a little while. I indeed see how visible brush marks can be on wide open surfaces, so I will remember these things when I camo splotch my remaining tanks. I will plead my case for devlan mud on my troopers' skin as it makes them look grimy from continual campaigns; Guardsmen probably don't get to tidy up everyday!

Sounds pretty correct to me.

Today I am going to unveil my Bullgryns! I feel that these are among my best painted models; from a painting perspective, they are essentially upscaled Guardsmen, so I could use my infantry color schemes with a lot of room for drybrushing and have fewer corrections to make in the touch-up stages (I'm thinking of eyes...). So, without further ado, I hope you enjoy:

It's hard to get the camera to focus on his face with the shield in the way; I deleted several pics of lesser quality.

Still a novice with the freehand insignia, it seems, or it was the case nearly a year ago.

Nice job on the originals bro! I can't see the update though, I'm not sure if it's just me or the pictures actually won't display.

Unfortunatey your links are broken and the pictures are not visible. Regarding the earlier images up thread I would echo what others have said;
- pay more attention to removing mould lines
- thin down your paints a little. This will mitigate against visible brush strokes

I tried using my dropbox-- I moved pics into my public folder, and I can see my own pictures of my Bullgryns; any reason why others wouldn't be able to view? Do I just need to upload to Dakka gallery again?

First off, really nice work man!

May I make some suggestions though?

Take more time to remove mold lines.
Thin your paints.
Add a second layer of paint to the base border.
Use a marker pen to do the eyes.
Use a markerpen for the freehand on the symbol you are using for your army, the one on the Sentinel and the tank needs some help.

An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure Cadians are essentially humans who colonized Cadia leaving them with the same average stature of a Terran man (5'10?) Regardless, I'm sure their height varies as much as ours does but is definitely less than 6'5, max.

But then again, perhaps Cadians have adapted to the gravity of their world, which could be more or less than that of Earth, allowing them to adapt to an average taller or shorter stature.

The only correction, If it really is one, is the average height of a normal human would probably be much higher in this time. COnsider the fact of how much average height has increased in the last 3-500 years here alone.

Interesting..

Upon inspection and reading a few articles, it's believed that humans will never surpass 7 foot 1 inch (Shaquille o'neil's height.) Barring any atmospheric and/or gravitational variables, what do you think the height of an average Cadian would be?

Fixed the broken links with the bullgryns. Enjoy the pics. C&C welcomed.
