I realized as I've been reading more and more Black Library books that the authors sometimes introduce characters that are FAR more interesting than the main characters. They sometimes are so amazingly cool that you wish you could get more about them.
What characters do you think deserve more attention?
My short list:
Nykona Sharrowkyn and Sabik Wayland (from Angel Exterminatus and Kryptos)
Fafnir Rahn and Lady Mourn (from the audio drama Templar)
Barabas Dantioch (The Iron Within and The Unremembered Empire)

After reading Daemon World, I want to learn more about Arguleon Veq's past. I think I'd even be happy if he got a Horus Heresy cameo or something.

Huron Blackheart. There are a few books with him featured as the evil King that he is, and a few told from the perspective of his underlings, but nothing that really features him that I've found so far. He's not a minor character but he doesn't have the mysticism of Calgar who I understand not being a main character of a book or series or risk pissing off a group of fanboys. And Abbadon is a key player in a few books outside of the Heresy series, who I would say DOES have that mysticism. No reason not to have the Tyrant leading a crusade in a book or two.

There was a novel a long long time ago called Flesh and Iron, by Henry Zou that had an IG Space Cajun Captain that for the life of me I cannot remember the name of. Zou has been criticized many times as being a poor writer, or not knowing the 40k universe as well as he should've when he wrote that, but the Captain in question was a really neat character because he falls to chaos, and it turns out he was actually the target of Inquisitorial Assassination in the novel that actually precluded it.
So anyways, while the writing overall wasn't super, the story did have grit to it. It was a slowly paced dirty, petty look at the IG and the Ecclesiarchy and very hard to wade through. But that ONE character. GRAAAAH! He was freakin crazypants once transformed, and you don't even know it at all until you read the First novel, Emperor's Mercy. You can pretty much skip straight to the end of Emperor's Mercy to see his descriptions, you just don't end up with a satisfactory idea of who this dude is.
I think other authors would have done it differently, but if there were any way that character could come back to life, I'd wanna read about that dude. I just wish I could remember his name. The Black Library doesn't sell it as an ebook and I got rid of the paperback years ago.

Have you read the short story Into the Maelstrom? It's one of my favourite, if not favourite, depiction of Huron.

Yes that would be cool, his deeds as he takes on the Last. I would like to see how he and Karnulon meet. Maybe Karnulon hunts him down to learn from him. I think a story on the tale of Torvendis itself would be a great story to be told from its own perspective.

Ivanus Enkomi of the Minotaurs. The "reasonable" right hand to Asterion Moloc, he is the one to represent the Minotaurs at war councils were they are forced to fight alongside other chapters. I would love to see how he works on the inside, whether begrudging that role of negotiator, or loving filling the role usually reserved to a chapter master.

Well, I have in fact never actually read a book on the universe... Just a lot and lot of lore. I just feel that the current, 40k representation of the man doesn't hold up to what he's supposed to be. For example, this is fanart:
Aaaand this is the current design.
I just... I really feel all the cool personality behind the Legions and their more chaotic changes in 40k is lost with designs like this. I've seen the 30k model, and it has loads of personality, compared to this... I've read up on who Abbadon was during the Heresy, and none of that is represented today, in 40k.
Am I the only one who feel like the Traitor Legions of 30k and the Chaos Marines of 40k are like two different factions at this point? Chaos Marines look like and feel like evil Space Marines more than millenium-old and pissed-off melon-fethers who has a grudge so painful that only the complete collapse of anything they ever fought for will suffice... And maybe not even that. At this point, they're just goofy, and Abbadons the goofiest of them.

Eh. I just don't really like that representation of Abbadon. He is supposed to represent the greatest threat to the galaxy at large, and what do we have? A guy with two skulls on his belly, a multitude of human skulls on his back, a tower of hair with spikes in it, a spiky, glowy sword, and a claw... In contrast with, for example, Horus, who is also a big guy in black armour, has the claw and a badass weapon that fits his armour, but 1) Isn't a mess of different designs (tubes, spikes, skulls), but has a simple design (Roman skirts, evil eye and done), 2) Shows authority by having a big-ass coat made of bear, in comparison to having some skulls or whatever and 3) has a believable hairdo (Seriously, that tower of hair is almost one meter tall!
Just look at the diferent design choices between Abbadon and Horus, or 40k Chaos Marines and 30k Marines for that matter... There's no comparison.

Miriael Sabathiel. Appeared in a short story and a card game then nothing. This is the ONLY known Sister of the Adepta Sororitas to have willingly converted to Chaos. With their zealous faith that's kind of a big deal but they did absolutely nothing with her. I'd love to see a novel on her background and how she turned, what she did after etc. She should be a character and have a model for Slaanesh armies for goodness sake.
