Sup dakka,

Did a little bit of freehand practice today, I plan on starting to put some symbols on my army to represent the bone legion considering the "Bone Legion" doesn’t really exist in the warhammer universe. So I have been doodling on paper trying to put together a nice looking symbol for my army and I was hoping for some input on some ideas. So far I have a plain old skull but I want to add some more to it to make it unique.

here is my first attempt I still need to work on the detail for bigger scale symbols but its a good start I think. My finger in in the pic just to give you an idea of the scale.

Any ideas are much appreciated, thanks.

Cheers!

1. That skull is great. Upload a tutorial.
2. A plain old skull is a tad boring. Maybe add in some green for you army? He needs a cool background too. Some badass medieval weaponry will do. How about this cover art as some inspiration, but instead of chains have bones!:

Hey,

I honestly just winged it so I don’t really have a set way of free handing, after I do a couple more and get a system down I will definitely make a tutorial. Looking at your pic you showed me and doing a couple sketches I ended up with a pretty nice looking design. I took your advice for the bones but I really hate the skull and crossbones thing. I decided to mash a bone / black legion symbol together with my skull and came up with this. Your right the green really did make it pop on top of the black, super happy with the look so far thanks!

If your wondering what os comedentis mean, its just BONE EATER in Latin.

Thanks LaCacty,

I got a question for you. Is there a way to follow a topic such as the plog I created. I guess what I'm trying to say, is the a way to receive a message or email when a new post is made on a topic. Like I have a bunch of topics and plogs that I follow and I would like to be notified when some new content is added.

Love the symbol Red,

the green is indeed a great addition on top of the black. I don't know if you have had any recommendations for writing, but I know people do use pens. I think maybe a green fine point sharpie would work wonders, it would allow you to keep the writing neat (personally I have no idea how people write with paint brushes, it seems far beyond me!).

Seeing LeCacty's idea it really made me think of the 'Hammer and sickle' symbol, you could potentially do a second symbol that's skull-free in the form of a bone sythe.

Alternatively a really simple idea would be something like the greek symbol for Hades God of the underworld; Maybe adding a twist like expanding the dot into more of an eye, or doing the whole symbol formed from a single piece of bone

Hey solar,

I really, really, REALLY like that Greek symbol it's exactly what I was looking for really appreciate your input. I have an awesome idea for that symbol mixed with LaCactys eye idea, what a great combo. I was planning of making a few different symbols and I think I'm now on the right track. The bone legion is certainly coming together.

Got tomorrow off after I do my running around I'm gonna put in some hard work and get some paint on my rhino.

Hey mat,

Thanks for subscribing and your more than welcome to use my scheme. Welcome to the bone legion

Hey Redflex! Been a minute since I replied in here but I just wanted to take a sec and offer my kudos for the job you've done! Keep up the great work!

I've been busy working on restarting my Blood Angels in earnest (Pictures in my gallery, shameless self promotion! ) but I've been following along with you here. LOVE the Hellbrute by the way! I'm going to be working on my own Death Company Dreadnought in the near future to take a break from painting power armor and work on a vehicle. I hope my dread turns out as nicely as your hellbrute did!

As an aside, have you considered perhaps picking up some base extension rings to add to your existing bases that will take them up to the 32 mm base size? I've done this with my Deathwatch marines project and really like how it maintains my original basing scheme for the models, but takes them up to the 'correct' base size. A package of 12 of them is only a few dollars also, and the ones i got are beveled so they match with regular GW bases pretty seamlessly. Just offering a suggestion on that end.

Lastly, I'm loving the new concept for the army symbol! Keep up the great work, and I'll catch ya on the flipside.

Take it easy for now.

Sup Dakka,

Got some work done on the Rhino and I'm really happy with the look so far. What a busy month for me I have been on the go non stop. The rhino still has a ton of work but I got most of the major painting out of the way I'm now down to the nitty gritty work that really starts to make the model POP. Once the rest of the painting is done and I have all the highlights finished I’m planning on weathering her up a little bit. I have never tried this before so it should be a pretty fun task. I’m wondering if anyone could help me out with some tips or tutorials I could use, Mainly weathering on the black body (scratches, marks, dirt) and tracks. probably going for a more subtle look but I still want the rhino to look as if it has been through a couple wars. Did a wee bit of weathering on the exhausts so far.

Any help is appreciated as always, sorry for the lack of posts recently and hope you like it.

Thanks for the read Dakka.

Cheers!

Hey Redflex, I've been lurking and following along here. Glad to see you're still making good headway despite the busy month. I empathize, as my schedule has been super hectic too.

That all being said, the rhino (And your Hellbrute, too) look awesome so far! Love the dark color scheme, and your highlights are also very nice on the armor, subtle but still visible and not over-bright.

I've been working on the grand re-visioning of my Blood Angels here lately, much more slowly than I'd like I confess, but headway is headway. If you're interested in seeing the progress do check my Gallery if you'd like.

Keep up the progress! I look forward to seeing the rhino finished up and more of your warband come together!

Thanks for sharing & keeping us updated. Take it easy for now.

Hey Red_Thist,

Sorry for the late reply and I really appreciate your kind words. I think the rhino came out better than I had anticipated, I guess hard work really does pay off. Been looking at your blood angels you have been working on and they are looking awesome. I absolutely love the wings on the one guy you painted great job on the white highlights. I'm sure your dreadnought is going to look top notch if not better then my hellbrute. I'm a fairly new painter and I'm not as clean as I would like to be. your models loom much cleaner than mine.

Thanks for following my blog and hopefully I can get some new content soon.

Keep up the good work Slow and steady wins the race my friend!

Cheers!

Hey Matthew,

Thanks for the comment I’m super happy with the rhino as well. Those spikes are pretty deadly but I'm worried about breaking them off more than anything .

Cheers!

Sup DAkka,

So I've been looking at my kharn model and I just couldn’t get over the look of his weapon the black with green highlights just wasn’t doing it for me I had to make a change.

Any ways thought Id try some wet blending and give it a power weapon look. I know its not a power weapon but this was kind of the image I had in my head since day one. I used 4 colours: warpstone green, moot green white and black.

Here is how it turned out and it looks so much better than it did before.

Keep posted for more content, hoping to finish up the rhino soon and I got some Obliteraters on the way

Thanks for the read DAkka.

Cheers

Sup Dakka,

Just want to start off by saying thank you for everyone who has been following this Plog and helping me out along the way. I feel like I have come such a long way in such a short period of time and I couldn’t have done it without you dakka!

Wanted to do a little studio update of what’s currently in the works. First off I have been working on taking better pictures of my miniatures. After doing some research online I built a light box for about 30 bucks, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Its very basic and consists of 2 lamps with 23W cfl daylight bulbs, a cardboard box, tissue paper and a piece of white construction paper.

I finished the rhino so why show it off with my new and improved photos using my light box!

I’m super happy with the result of both the Rhino and the picture quality of the light box and I hope you like it.

I have officially entered the monthly painting competition created by paradigm. I have been wanting to do it for a while and if you have not checked it out yet I highly recommend you do, some of the stuff being pumped out is just fantastic and a huge thumbs up to everyone who is involved. This months challenge is called "Prince of the universe" and I have been wanting to paint my DV Choas Lord for while now... seems like the perfect time.

Models and primed and painted ready for the competition so keep posted on both my Plog and the monthly challange for some great stuff.

Like always Dakka thanks for the read and....

Hey War Kitten,

Thanks for reading and posting. In the bone Legion a rhino is not just a vessel of transportation. A rhino is its own character that is fuelled by the flesh, bone and souls of casualties during war or those sacrificed devoted to the legion. As Januine said its essentially possessed, A demonic engine feeding from war devoted to the bone legion. Its not a single body who drives a rhino, its driven by the hate, the anger and the souls of those consumed.

I have created my own chapter "The Bone Legion" because its a figment of my imagination!

keep posted my friend,

Cheers!

Sup Dakka,

Been putting work in to finish the models for the competition. I’m pretty much finished all 4 cultist that will be a part of my entry just need a couple more highlights, some detail work and the bases. Next ill be working on the DV chaos lord, He should be fun to paint.

here they are

man after painting these guys I realized that highlighting black IS NOT and I repeat IS NOT an EASY TASK! Its really takes patience to do and I’m so close to fielding my first army that patience is not on my side right now. I think I need to start painting the models and saving the black highlights for a dedicated day. This way im fresh and my levels of patients are much better.

Once these models are finished for the competition I can focus of finishing the last 6 models to finally be able to field the bone legion in a real game once in for all! WOOT WOOT.

keep posted for more content I just bought some oblitoraters and I'm going to get started on them once I’m finished all 10 cultists. I’m wondering if you guys are interested in me taking some footage of the bone legion in battle? if so I’m going to try and get some nice photos and maybe a couple video clips of the official first game for both me and the Bone Legion.

Hope you guys enjoy.

Thanks for the read Dakka, CHEERS!

Excellent stuff man! Love these cultists, they're looking exceptionally good!

I'd love to see some pictures & video of your first of many outings with the Bone Legion personally!

Also, speaking as someone who has to highlight black a lot with my bolter casings and Death Company, I empathize and know how difficult it is to paint black so it looks good. I dedicate entire painting sessions just to highlighting black, truth be told.

Hope to see more updates in the near future. Keep us posted man, and keep up the great work!

Take it easy in the mean time.
