@lacacty- thanks bro, yes the scaring and detail on the cultists are pretty nice I really enjoy painting them. my hardest task right now is highlighting black cloth/robes. I'm pretty good with weapons and armor,it's those damn wrinkles that get me every time.

@warkitten- thanks for your kind words and welcome to the bone legion.

I feel that! Mine have some black robes as well. They're a bitch to highlight.

Black robes are a lot easier than white ones. Just pain the whole thing black, layer up some areas with eshin grey (or feather/blend it if you're real keen, as this isn't a hard blend), then highlight the raises surfaces with dawnstone.

Don't worry about the recesses, as natural lighting will sort that out.

Back of this fella will give you the gist of it:

Hey talys,

Thanks for the reply. I'm just wondering what you mean by "feather/blend", how exactly is this method done? I use those two exact colours for my black highlights but with skin and robes I find it much more difficult.

That's for the advice and the read.

Cheers!

SUP DAKKA,

Its been some time now since I have posted and I'm super sad that i wasn't able to finish the monthly competition that I had submitted. Bottom line I have been super busy due to work and my little 1 year old, I wish i could put more time in but sadly its just not the case right now. Hopefully after the new year I will be able to work on my models a little more and post content more frequently... but until then looks like not much will be done. besides all the boring bad news I did manage to get a head start on a new project. I managed to pick up some used space marines half built half still on the spures for super cheap and decided i would put my creativity to the test and convert them into plague marines. I'm super stoked for not only converting them but also putting my creativity and green stuff skills to the test (as of right now my green stuff skills BLOW). SO i had a pretty nice looking shoulder pad until i snapped the other arm off and decided to glue it on while the green stuff was still soft... complete fail. Besides the point I did a quick build on my very first plague marine conversion and i thought I would share it with you guys. I still feel like he needs a ton of work but at the same time i think im going in the right direction.

Not really sure what im doing yet but here he is... hope you guys enjoy.

thnaks for the read dakka,

Hey war kitten,

So I'm super new to greenstuff/modelling but disturbing was definitely the look I was going for. I have this problem with green stuff that I just can't seem to leave it alone and the more I play with it the worse it looks. I need to throw some paint on these bad boys to give myself a good idea of how the greenstuff looks once it becomes more or less blended in with the original model. Not really sure what colours I will be going with yet but I would like to try and keep them within the same bone legion theme. any suggestions?

hey guild,

Thanks for your kind words. I cant post a tutorial but i can guide you on how i tackled it as it wasnt very hard, just a little bit of patients and elbow grease. I used naggroth night for a base coat then washed it with druchii violet. I probably should of done a 50/50 with naggroth and xereus purple for the first shade for a better transition but i only used xereus purple. I pretty much painted in on all the raised edges from thin (top of cloak) to thick on the bottom. I then mixed 50/50 with genestealer purple and xereus purple to highlight again using the same technique only painting a smaller area within the first shade slowly bringing the highlight to the most raised edges of the cloak. Because I wasn’t super happy with the transistion from base coat to first shade i tried to add a filter to blend it better and threw on another wash of druchii violet. After that I messed around with the ratios slowly building up the final edge highlight of the cloak to genestealer purple. For the gold trim I simply painted it on after the cloak was fully painted using balthasar gold, a wash of aggrax earth shade, re highlighted with balthasar gold and then final highlight with 50/50 leadbelcher and balthasar gold.

There are so many good techniques you can find on youtube for painting cloaks. It doesn’t matter what colour is used in the turorial because you can follow the exact steps using whatever colours you would like. here are a couple that helped me out.

hope this helped cheers!

Sup Dakka,

Managed to pretty much finish Kranon last night, I still have a couple of small details to add and base him obviously but most of the work has been put in already. That being said I just cant seem to paint his sword the way I pictured it in my head. I’m having problems with it for some reason and it kind of ruins the whole look of the model. The look i pictured in my head was to give the sword a ghostly/glowing souls look as if it was haunted/possessed by the dark gods. I just couldn’t seem to get it right and it got way to late last night for me to keep tinkering with it. So don’t judge the sword just yet, I was hoping you guys could maybe help me out with this issue I'm having and maybe shoot me some suggestions or maybe tutorials on how i can achieve this look.

Lovely work on Kranon - he really looks the business. I need to get on and finish up (read 'start') my own Kranon. I might add one or two thin glazes to the cloak, just to soften the highlight transitions a touch. Overall lovely lovely paintjob there RF

Hey januine thanks for the advice and compliments! I'm wondering if maybe a glaze would also give a nice glow affect on the green from the sword? Do you suggest making my own glaze or buying them pre made from a retailer?

Thanks januine

Glazes - make your own. Dead easy and then you get exactly the right colour you want. No need to buy premade. For the sword, I'd use a little shade and then a touch, just a touch more highlighting. Final glaze should then bring the tones together nicely. Really is a nice job you've done there. The bone work especially looks the business

How exactly do you make a glaze if you don't mind me asking?

Those are looking GREAT! Really characterful, reminds me of the original chaos marines from the RT era.

dumb question time. I've seen a few people look to guitar wire/string as a medium for creating tubes and gas lines for models. It certainly looks fantastic, but I've avoided using this for fear of how difficult it would be to cut them. But now that I think about it, guitar strings breaking seems to be the bane of every musician, so surely, they can't be that hard to cut? How do you work with guitar string? Just normal clippers/pliers?

Really nice work on those Plague Marine conversions!

I'm so glad you have done the most basic thing, which many people neglect and as such the failure to do so is a pet peeve of mine: you managed to give the marines knives instead of chainswords! Yay!

Saddens me to see alleged Plague Marine conversions with chain swords. Today I am much much very happy though!

Briancj- hey man thanks, I've been trying to give each plague marine a unique look from one another.

General k - what is up general k! Just want to say to you how awesome your mr potato head conversion is it just blew my mind, absolutely brilliant.... Great work can't wait to see the next one. As for the guitar string it's real easy to cut I just use a pair of side cutters. I'm sure your sprue cutter Will work as well but I don't use mine because I'm scared it will ruin them. Working with the stuff is not so easy it's kind of a pain in the ass to shape it the way you would like on a small scale model like a space marine, It's not the end of the world though. I get a small roll of it for 2 bucks at my local music shop and it does look great. Little bit of patients works for me until I get myself one of those fancy Tenticle/tube rollers. If your big on conversions and I know you are, its probably the better rout. But once again guitar string is a great little tool for the time being and it doesn't get ruined when touched unlike uncured green stuff. Thanks for reading I'm really starting to get the hang of green stuff and conversions and mr.dakkahead is a great inspiration for me. Cheers!

Nariek- thanks a bunch for the kind words. I really wanted them to resemble plague marines as much as possible when someone looks at them. I was so tempted to buy a box of plaguebearers just to use the plague knifes on my plague marines. Sadly I just couldn't fit it in my budget but that's just fine because it makes me work a little harder and it gives them an even more unique look. I'm glad i made you happy today because I'm super happy with them as well, thanks!

Lecacty- LaCacty buddie how are yah? I'm glad to keep seeing you pop in and take a look at my wip it feels good. What backpack are you talking about the first one with the blue capacitor or the one with the triple stack. I personally love the triple stack! Thanks for the read once again and I should have some mor content for yah real soon, cheer!

So I drilled holes with my pin vice and pretty much pinned the stacks right into the backpack, it seems to be pretty solid. That being said I'm still going to store him good
